The tension inside the vaulted council chamber was thick enough to draw a blade through. Heavy torches line the high stone pillars, flickering against the cold faces of the northern pack leaders. Every pair of eyes in the hall remained glued to Aria and Silas as they walked toward the head of the polished obsidian table.

Beside her, Silas moved with the effortless grace of a apex predator, his shoulder brushing against hers in a subtle display of total alignment. Aria kept her chin lifted, her pulse drumming a fierce, steady rhythm against her ribs. She felt the heavy, suffocating weight of Julian’s stare burning into the side of her face, but she deliberately kept her gaze fixed straight ahead, treating his presence as nothing more than a stain on the floor.

"Sovereign Silas," declared Elder Vane, a grey-bearded Alpha from the Frost-Ridge clan, stepping forward with a crisp bow. "We were not expecting you to bring... company to a high-tier strategy council."

"I bring whom I choose to my table, Vane," Silas’s voice echoed off the damp stone walls, smooth as silk yet laced with lethal warning. He pulled out the heavy carved chair directly to his right—the seat historically reserved for a Sovereign's second or mate—and motioned for Aria to take it.

Gasps rippled through the gathering of Alphas. Julian’s fists clenched so hard his knuckles turned stark white against his red velvet tunic. Unable to restrain himself any longer, he slammed his hand against the stone table, the loud crack ringing through the chamber like a gunshot.

"This is a farce!" Julian snarled, taking two furious steps toward them. His dark eyes were bloodshot, flashing with a mixture of wounded pride and chaotic anger. "She is a fugitive! A lineage-less rogue who abandoned the Blood Moon pack during a critical winter storm! By rights of territory, she belongs to my pack for judgment!"

The air in the room instantly plummeted several degrees. Silas didn't even turn his body. He merely tilted his head, his golden eyes narrowing into twin slits of liquid fire as he looked at Julian.

"Careful, Alpha Julian," Silas said, his voice dangerously soft. "You speak of a woman currently under the personal protection of the Shadowfang throne. To call her a fugitive in my presence is an act of aggression against my bloodline."

"She is nothing!" Julian spat, though a flicker of fear finally pierced through his reckless bravado as Silas shifted his weight. Julian turned his gaze directly onto Aria, his jaw trembling with rage. "Tell him, Aria! Tell him how you crawled into my territory half-frozen, begging for scraps! Tell these leaders how you were nothing more than a charity case before you ran away like a coward in the dark!"

Aria slowly rose from her chair. The room fell into a deathly hush, waiting for her breakdown, waiting for the frail, broken girl Julian described to shrink back in shame.

Instead, Aria leaned forward, resting her palms flat against the obsidian table. She looked Julian dead in the eye, her expression cold, unbothered, and entirely devoid of the fear that used to consume her whenever he raised his voice.

"I didn't run, Julian," Aria said, her voice clear, melodious, and carrying to every corner of the vast hall. "You threw me into the snowstorm because you were terrified. You knew your pack’s strength was fading, and you couldn't stand the fact that an 'unbound rogue' possessed more latent magic in her pinky finger than you could summon in your entire life."

"You lie!" Julian barked, his face flushing deep crimson. "You have no magic! You are a baseline human leech!"

Aria didn't bother arguing. She simply reached down to her waist, drew the rune-carved dagger Silas had given her, and laid it on the stone table. As her skin broke contact with the hilt, the ancient runes etched into the metal burst into a brilliant, sapphire-blue radiance—a direct, undeniable response to the massive reservoir of raw, unbound magical power surging through her veins.

The light illuminated the shocked faces of every Alpha in the room. Elder Vane gasped, taking a half-step back, while several other elders exchanged hurried, stunned whispers. Only a true high-mage or royal bloodline could awaken the dormant Shadowfang runes without touching them directly.

Julian stared at the glowing blade, his mouth opening and closing as the terrible reality settled over him. She wasn't weak. She had never been weak. He had thrown away a power that could have elevated his pack to legendary status, all out of his own bloated, fragile ego.

"You cast me out into the frost to die, expecting the wilderness to erase your mistake," Aria continued, her voice dropping into a low, lethal murmur that chilled Julian to his core. "Instead, you delivered me to the one man who knew exactly what I was worth. So look at me closely, Alpha Julian. Because the next time I step onto Blood Moon land, it won't be to beg for a place by your fire. It will be to claim everything you stole."

Silas let out a dark, low chuckle that sent a shiver down the spines of every warrior present. He reached out, gently wrapping his fingers over hers on the glowing dagger, placing himself firmly at her side.

"The council will now begin," Silas announced smoothly, his gold eyes lingering on Julian’s pale, trembling form. "And Alpha Julian... I suggest you sit down before my guard removes your head for standing in the presence of your superior."
