Silence settled over the quiet study, thick and charged with an intensity that made the surrounding air feel almost tangible. Silas didn't pull back, his hand remaining steady over hers against his chest, letting her feel every heavy, rhythmic beat of his heart.

Aria looked up, meeting the relentless gold of his eyes. "You offer me a crown and a pack as if they are gifts to be handed over on a silver platter, Silas. But nothing in this world is free. What is the true cost of standing beside the Sovereign?"

A faint, dangerous smirk touched the corner of Silas’s mouth, though his gaze remained deadly serious. "The cost is your complete surrender—not to me, Aria, but to the power you have spent years suppressing. I will not let you hide behind the memory of what Julian did to you. If you walk this path with me, you step into the fire, not behind my shield."

Aria felt a thrill, sharp and cold, cut through the residual warmth in her veins. For months, Julian and his pack had taught her to cower, to keep her head down, to treat her innate gifts as a curse that needed taming. They had stripped her of her voice, treating her like an unwelcome beggar at their gates. But Silas was offering no soft comfort, no gentle sanctuary to hide in; he was demanding her awakening.

"And if I burn?" she asked, her voice dropping to a low, challenging whisper that vibrated with newfound strength.

Silas leaned in, his knuckles gently skimming the line of her jawline until his thumb rested at the corner of her lips. "Then we burn together. But I suspect you'll find you were made for the flames."

He stepped back slowly, breaking the physical contact, though the weight of his presence remained tightly woven around her. Turning toward the heavy oak desk, he picked up an ornate silver dagger sheath, its surface carved with intricate runes of the Shadowfang lineage, and held it out to her.

"Take it," Silas commanded softly. "Consider it the first piece of your old life returned to you—a weapon of your own. Tomorrow, the Alpha council meets to discuss the northern borders, and Julian will be standing among them."

Aria extended her hand, her fingers closing firmly around the cold metal of the hilt. A sudden spark of latent magic rippled across her skin at the contact, recognizing her grip, humming in sync with the blood in her veins. She looked up at Silas, the shadow of the broken girl from the snow completely gone from her eyes.

"Let him come," Aria said, her voice steady and resolute. "He wanted a broken exile. He's going to find a storm."

Silas watched her, his expression unreadable, though a dark gleam of satisfaction shone in his eyes. He stepped closer once more, his hand lingering on the hilt of the dagger alongside hers, grounding her in the moment.

"Then prepare yourself, Aria," Silas said quietly, his voice carrying the weight of an absolute promise. "When you walk into that hall tomorrow, you do not walk as a refugee. You walk as my equal. Blood Moon will realize what they threw away, and by the time the night ends, they will tremble at the name they tried so hard to erase."

Aria gripped the dagger tightly, feeling the shift within her soul. The weak, lineage-less girl Julian cast into the freeze was dead. In her place stood a woman ready to reclaim everything stolen from her.

Five full years had passed since the signing of the Treaty of Eternal Sovereignty at the Red Gorge, but time held no power over the unbreakable peace carved by blood, steel, and high magic.High above the clouds, upon the central balcony of the Shadowfang Citadel, the morning sun broke over the snow-capped peaks in a brilliant blaze of gold and warm crimson. Merchants carrying spices from the Golden Dominions bargained alongside northern smiths and mountain hunters. Astraea scholars clad in sweeping sapphire silks walked shoulder-to-shoulder with rugged wolf-warriors down wide cobblestone avenues, while children played safely in the courtyards beneath the gentle, protective glow of floating azure wards. Down in the heart of the valley, the Great Leyline hum

His broad frame shadowed her completely, blocking out the chill of the mountain night.
