The Broken Bond

The rain came down in blinding sheets, turning the forest floor into a swamp of slick mud and crushed leaves.

Aria sprinted through the darkness, her chest burning with every ragged breath. Her bare feet were sliced by sharp rocks and tangled roots, but physical pain was nothing compared to the agony tearing her chest apart from the inside.

The mate bond. It was ripping away, strand by golden strand, leaving behind an agonizing, empty void.

Only an hour ago, she had stood in the Grand Hall of the Blood Moon Pack, her heart pounding with hope. It was her eighteenth birthday—the night she was supposed to finally find her place in the world. Instead, Julian, the pack’s heir and her fated mate, had looked at her with pure disgust.

"I, Julian Thorne, future Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack, reject you, Aria Blake, as my mate and my Luna."

The memory echoed in her mind, sharper than a blade. The laughter of the pack members, the triumphant smirk on her half-sister’s face, and Julian's cold, merciless eyes as he cast her out like trash.

“A weak, nameless omega could never stand beside me,”* he had declared before throwing her into the storm.

Aria stumbled, hitting the muddy ground hard. She gasped for air, tears mixing with the freezing rain on her face. Her wolf, silent and dormant for years, whined softly deep inside her soul.

Weak, they called her. Useless. If only they knew the ancient, terrifying force that slumbered beneath her broken skin—a power she had spent her whole life hiding just to survive.

A low, thunderous growl shattered the sound of the rain.

Aria froze, her hands sinking into the mud.

The air around her instantly shifted, turning heavy and thick with raw, suffocating aura. The trees seemed to lean away as a massive silhouette stepped out from the treeline.

Shadows coiled around the figure like living silk. Amber eyes glowed through the darkness, locking onto her with deadly precision.

She had crossed the border. She was no longer on Blood Moon territory.

She was in the lands of the Shadow Fang Pack—and standing before her was the terrifying rumor brought to life.

Alpha Silas Vance. Silas stepped into the dim moonlight, his towering frame exuding pure, unchecked power. His gaze swept over her shivering, rain-soaked form, lingering on the fresh blood trailing down her ankles and the faint, fading mark of a broken bond on her collarbone.

"You are trespassing, little wolf," Silas said, his voice a deep, gravelly rumble that vibrated right through the earth beneath her.

He took a step closer, towering over her like a executioner. Most omegas would have fainted or begged for mercy. But Aria was done begging.

Slowly, painfully, she forced herself to stand up. She wiped the blood from her lip, lifted her chin, and stared directly into the eyes of the deadliest Alpha in the realm.

"Then kill me," Aria said, her voice steady despite the tremor in her knees. "Or step aside. Because I am done running."

For a split second, a flicker of genuine shock crossed Silas’s dark features, quickly replaced by a slow, dangerous smirk.

"Kill you?" Silas murmured, taking one final step until he was inches from her face, his scent of rain and crushed pine washing over her senses. "No. Trespassers don't get off that easily in my pack."
