The heavy oak door shut behind Silas, but the heat of his presence lingered in the quiet room like smoke.

Aria sat on the edge of the mattress, her heart beating a furious rhythm against her ribs. The places where his skin had touched hers—her collarbone, her lip, her chest—were still burning with a strange, pleasurable static.

She reached down and touched her collarbone. The jagged scar from Julian’s rejection was no longer throbbing with agonizing pain. Instead, a soft, golden warmth radiated from deep within her chest, soothing the raw edges of her broken soul.

What did he do to me? she thought, sliding her legs over the edge of the bed.

She stood up carefully. Her ankles, though bound in clean bandages, held her weight without collapsing. She quickly dressed in the simple clothes provided—a soft black tunic that fell to her mid-thigh and fitted leather trousers.

Ten minutes later, the door creaked open again. But it wasn't the pack doctor.

Silas stood in the entryway. He had discarded his heavy coat, leaving him in a fitted dark tunic that showed the broad line of his shoulders and the thick muscles of his arms. His golden eyes swept over her, taking in her appearance with an approving warmth that made her skin flush.

"You heal fast," Silas noted softly, stepping into the room and closing the door behind him. "The pack doctor said your wounds were severe, but your body is mending at three times the speed of a normal omega."

"I don't feel normal," Aria admitted, her voice low. She took a step toward him, her hands trembling slightly. "Silas... when you touched me earlier... what was that?"

Silas paused, his eyes darkening. He crossed the stone floor with slow, deliberate grace, stopping only when he stood directly in front of her. The scent of cedar and rain enveloped her again, thick and heavy.

"That," Silas murmured, his voice dropping to a gravelly whisper, "was your power answering mine."

He reached out, his hand gently framing the side of her neck. His thumb caress slid over her jawline, tipping her chin up so she had no choice but to look into his intense amber eyes.

Aria let out a sharp, ragged breath. The touch was electricity. A shiver ran down her spine, pooling lower in her stomach with a sudden, intoxicating heat. She didn't pull away. Instead, she leaned into his palm, her eyes fluttering shut for a brief second.

"You're shaking," Silas whispered, his face dipping closer until his breath brushed against her cheek.

"I'm not afraid of you," Aria said, opening her eyes to meet his gaze.

"You should be," Silas growled softly, though his fingers softened their grip, trailing down her neck to rest on her shoulder, his thumb stroking her bare skin. "My pack thinks I'm a monster, Aria. They think I brought you here to use as a bargain chip against Blood Moon."

"And are you?" Aria challenged, stepping even closer so her chest brushed against his. The physical proximity was overwhelming, sending a rush of desire through her blood that made her mouth go dry. "Using me?"

Silas lowered his head until his lips were bare millimeters from her ear.

"If I wanted to use you, little wolf," he growled, his hand slipping around her waist, pulling her flush against his hard body, "I wouldn't be standing here fighting the urge to tear off these clothes and seal your mark myself."

Aria’s breath hitched. Her hands instinctively flew to his chest, gripping the front of his shirt—not to push him away, but to keep herself grounded as a wave of pure, unadulterated heat washed over her.

She felt the solid, heavy thud of his heart against her palm, beating just as fast as her own.

Silas pulled back slightly, looking down at her lips with a hunger that sent a thrill straight to her core. For a long, breathless moment, the air between them stretched taut, filled with the undeniable promise of what was coming.

"Get ready, Aria," Silas whispered, his grip tightening on her waist for one last, intoxicating second before he released her. "The courtyard is waiting. It's time to see what that wolf of yours can really do."
