CHAPTER THREE

ISABELLA’S POV

Everything happened in a split second. I felt my world crumbling down right in front of me. Why did I lose focus? I tried my best to wipe off the stain with the napkin.

“Isabella.” The boss screamed and I jumped. “I told you you had only one more chance and you were done.” He yelled.

“I'm so sorry. I didn’t mean to spill the drink. It was an accident.” I almost choked on my words.

“You’re fired. Leave right away.” He pushed me.

“I'm so sorry. It was an accident. You can’t fire me. How am I going to pay my mother's hospital bills and my rent?” I couldn’t afford to lose my job, not right now. I could barely survive as it was.

“You should have thought about that before getting distracted.” He called one of the bouncers to escort me out but I resisted. He carried me while I struggled in his arms.

He took me through the back door and dropped me outside. I tried to get in but he blocked the door. “Can I at least get my stuff from the locker?” I begged.

“Fine.” He said and escorted me to make sure I didn’t do anything.

“What happened?” Jess, my best friend asked.

“I accidentally spilled a drink on him and Carlos fired me,” I answered.

“Oh my God.” She gasped. “What are you going to do now?”

“I don’t know. I have to look for a new job really soon.” I collected my things from the locker and closed it with a really loud bang.

“I’m so sorry. I have to go back in. I’ll come and see you at the end of my shift, okay? I love you.” She hugged me.

“Love you too.”

The bouncer escorted me back outside. I took the bus back to the house. I couldn’t even go to the hospital to see my mum. What was I going to tell her? That I got fired over a silly mistake? I had to think of something fast.

I got back to the house and changed into regular clothes. I couldn’t even be bothered with returning the uniform. I cried and cried until I went to sleep.

I was woken up by a knock on the door. Who could it be? Jessica wasn’t out of work by this time. I wasn’t expecting anybody else. I walked to the door and opened it and was shocked by the other person standing there.

“What, what are you doing here?” I stuttered.

He walked in, ignoring my question. I could feel his judgment from the way he looked around. He went around the house and kept touching stuff. What was he doing here?

I demanded to know how he found my house but he ignored my question and went straight to the point.

Out of nowhere, he offered me sex for money, like it was some sort of business deal.

He probably felt I was desperate for money because of my living conditions. Or maybe because I got fired in his presence.

“You want to pay me to have sex with you?” I asked, wanting to be sure that I’d heard correctly.

He nodded and before I knew it, my hand was going across his face. I just couldn’t take the disrespect.

He held his face obviously in shock that I would dare to hit him.

“Did you just slap me?” He asked.

“Yes, and I will do it again if you don’t get the hell out.” What more could I lose? He had basically even cost me my job.

He chuckled. I didn’t know what to expect. Even though I acted tough, I was still a bit scared of him. He walked closer and closer to me while I kept backing up until my back hit the wall.

I could basically feel his breath on me. I was shaking a little bit. We looked each other in the eye. I was waiting for him to do something, anything.

He smiled and backed away. He pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to me.

“Call me.” He said and walked out of the house. I was speechless. I didn’t expect him to react like that.

I threw the paper in the trash and locked the door behind me. Why would he ever think I would stoop that low to have sex with him for money?

I was about to return to bed when I heard another knock on the door. Was it him again? I opened the door prepared to yell at him again but held my words when I saw who was at the door.

“When am I going to get my payment?” The landlord asked me.

“I’ll get it to you at the end of the week,” I replied, my voice low.

“That’s what you’ve been saying for the past months.” He responded with a butter scoff.

“I'm sorry. I promise this time around, I’ll get it to you.”

“You'd better do. I can’t keep doing this with you. The only reason I’ve let you off all this while is because of your mother. If I don’t get it by the end of this week, I'm going to have to throw you out.”

My breath hitched.

“It won’t get to that, I promise,” I said.

“I’ll see you at the end of the week.” He turned around and left.

I closed the door and almost started crying again. If I paid the rent this week, basically all my savings would be gone. I didn’t know what to do.

I didn’t even have the chance to breathe before I got a phone call from the hospital.

My mother had another episode. They had managed to stabilize her but her condition had worsened. She needed surgery urgently but she wasn’t going to get that in that hospital.

Slowly, I turned around and stared at the piece of paper in the trash. I wasn’t going to be reduced to that, was I?

Theo and my mum were coming down the stairs when I got in.“Daddy, I missed you.” Theo threw himself at me.“I missed you too, Theo.” I smiled.“I thought you weren’t going to be back until next week.” My mum said as she hugged me.“That was the plan but I couldn't just be there after what happened.” I answered truthfully. “Where’s Isabella?”“She wasn't in her room so we came downstairs to see if she was already up.” She said as we walked into the living room.Isabella wasn't awake as my mum had thought. She was asleep on the couch and it looked like she had slept there intentionally.“

  • The Ruthless Billionaire’s Regret   Chapter Eighty

CHAPTER EIGHTYISABELLA’S POVI was still in a state of shock by the time I’d gotten to Adrian’s house. What if he hadn’t called me? What if I had refused to take his call? I would have been shot and nobody would have found my killers. I was sure of it.I still couldn’t believe that Julius had a hand in it. Did the breakup hurt him that much that he wanted to kill me? Even though he had been the one to end things between us.After an hour of staying at Adrian’s house, his mother and Theo joined me. “Are you okay, love?” Vivian asked.“No.” I shook my head. I didn’t want to lie. “I almost died.”“But you didn’t.” She squeezed my hands gently. “You’re okay now. Adrian will take care of it.”“I should have listened to him.” I cried. “I shouldn’t have met up with Julius. He warned me. I was angry at him and it clouded my thinking and it almost cost me my life.”“You’re okay now.” She hugged me. “It’s alright. You just wanted to get answers.”“I should have listened to him. • The Ruthless Billionaire’s Regret   Chapter Seventy Nine

CHAPTER SEVENTY-NINEADRIAN’S POVThe workload on me had doubled. Sebastian was focused on solving the Dominic and Julius mystery and that meant I had to take on some of his responsibilities. I wasn’t complaining though. I had done more work before.I hadn’t spoken to Isabella since I basically schooled her about Julius. I didn’t stop texting her though, even if she didn’t respond to any of my texts. I still communicated with Theo on the phone. I was hoping that she would say hi but there was never a word from her. After a long day, I finally returned to my hotel room. It was only one week till we were done with this madness and back in Chicago. I got out my phone and sent a text to Isabella. I didn’t ever stop to think if I was overbearing. I spent the last few days telling her how my day went and about my feelings for her.I didn’t expect her to reply so once I sent the text, I threw my phone on the bed and went into the shower. I came back out a few minutes later to find Sebastian

CHAPTER SEVENTY-EIGHTISABELLA’S POVTo say I was shocked would be an understatement to what I actually felt when Adrian told me that Julius might have had a hand in helping Dominic. I didn’t like the way he relayed the news to me though. He was condescending and made me stupid for wanting to think it was a misunderstanding and Julius was actually innocent. I didn’t expect him to send me an apology text 30 minutes later.I kept staring at the text when I received it and read it over and over again. It had been almost five days and every morning, I went back to read the text. I didn’t grace him with a reply though. I simply didn’t know what to say to him. His apology didn’t erase how hurt he made me.He and Theo spoke to each other a few times. I was right there but we didn’t say anything to each other. I simply handed Theo the phone and let them talk on their own.I didn’t receive any other message from Julius. I hadn’t even replied to the last one he sent me. I wanted to listen to Ad

CHAPTER SEVENTY-SEVENADRIAN’S POVIt had been two days since I confessed to Isabella that I had feelings for her. We haven’t spoken again since she told me goodnight and hung up the phone. I didn’t know when I would talk to her or even see her next. I was going on a two-week business trip. Before we got on the jet, I decided to text her.“I’m going on a two-week trip. I’ll see you when I get back and hopefully we can talk more.” I sent the text to her.It was only two minutes but it felt like hours of waiting. The three little dots popped up showing she was responding to my text.“Safe travels, Adrian.” That was the only thing she said.I was itching to talk to her some more. I wanted her to respond to the part where I hoped we would talk more. I knew she wouldn’t.“I’ll try to talk to you and Theo anytime I have the chance to.” I texted back. I had to sneak Theo in there so she wouldn’t think about it too much. As much as I loved Theo, I wanted to speak to Isabella more than I wante

CHAPTER SEVENTY-SIXISABELLA’S POVAdrian dropped me off at home and he and Theo went to his house so they could spend the weekend together. I had totally made the wrong mistake by going to Vivian’s house that morning. I couldn’t stop thinking about what he said earlier. Why did he have to go and make things more awkward between us?I stripped my clothes off and got into the shower. It was almost time for dinner already. I looked at my reflection in the mirror. My bruises were turning purple. I’d done a good job of hiding my visible hickeys with foundation before I left the house earlier. I couldn’t wait for them to fade. I didn't want to keep being reminded of my bad choices. After I was done freshening up, I ordered pizza because I wasn’t in the mood to make dinner. I got a text from Julius saying he was done with work here and had flown back home. I didn’t bother replying because I didn’t know what reply to give. He had been acting strange. The doorbell rang not even five minutes
