Mag-log inCHAPTER THREE
ISABELLA’S POV Everything happened in a split second. I felt my world crumbling down right in front of me. Why did I lose focus? I tried my best to wipe off the stain with the napkin. “Isabella.” The boss screamed and I jumped. “I told you you had only one more chance and you were done.” He yelled. “I'm so sorry. I didn’t mean to spill the drink. It was an accident.” I almost choked on my words. “You’re fired. Leave right away.” He pushed me. “I'm so sorry. It was an accident. You can’t fire me. How am I going to pay my mother's hospital bills and my rent?” I couldn’t afford to lose my job, not right now. I could barely survive as it was. “You should have thought about that before getting distracted.” He called one of the bouncers to escort me out but I resisted. He carried me while I struggled in his arms. He took me through the back door and dropped me outside. I tried to get in but he blocked the door. “Can I at least get my stuff from the locker?” I begged. “Fine.” He said and escorted me to make sure I didn’t do anything. “What happened?” Jess, my best friend asked. “I accidentally spilled a drink on him and Carlos fired me,” I answered. “Oh my God.” She gasped. “What are you going to do now?” “I don’t know. I have to look for a new job really soon.” I collected my things from the locker and closed it with a really loud bang. “I’m so sorry. I have to go back in. I’ll come and see you at the end of my shift, okay? I love you.” She hugged me. “Love you too.” The bouncer escorted me back outside. I took the bus back to the house. I couldn’t even go to the hospital to see my mum. What was I going to tell her? That I got fired over a silly mistake? I had to think of something fast. I got back to the house and changed into regular clothes. I couldn’t even be bothered with returning the uniform. I cried and cried until I went to sleep. I was woken up by a knock on the door. Who could it be? Jessica wasn’t out of work by this time. I wasn’t expecting anybody else. I walked to the door and opened it and was shocked by the other person standing there. “What, what are you doing here?” I stuttered. He walked in, ignoring my question. I could feel his judgment from the way he looked around. He went around the house and kept touching stuff. What was he doing here? I demanded to know how he found my house but he ignored my question and went straight to the point. Out of nowhere, he offered me sex for money, like it was some sort of business deal. He probably felt I was desperate for money because of my living conditions. Or maybe because I got fired in his presence. “You want to pay me to have sex with you?” I asked, wanting to be sure that I’d heard correctly. He nodded and before I knew it, my hand was going across his face. I just couldn’t take the disrespect. He held his face obviously in shock that I would dare to hit him. “Did you just slap me?” He asked. “Yes, and I will do it again if you don’t get the hell out.” What more could I lose? He had basically even cost me my job. He chuckled. I didn’t know what to expect. Even though I acted tough, I was still a bit scared of him. He walked closer and closer to me while I kept backing up until my back hit the wall. I could basically feel his breath on me. I was shaking a little bit. We looked each other in the eye. I was waiting for him to do something, anything. He smiled and backed away. He pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to me. “Call me.” He said and walked out of the house. I was speechless. I didn’t expect him to react like that. I threw the paper in the trash and locked the door behind me. Why would he ever think I would stoop that low to have sex with him for money? I was about to return to bed when I heard another knock on the door. Was it him again? I opened the door prepared to yell at him again but held my words when I saw who was at the door. “When am I going to get my payment?” The landlord asked me. “I’ll get it to you at the end of the week,” I replied, my voice low. “That’s what you’ve been saying for the past months.” He responded with a butter scoff. “I'm sorry. I promise this time around, I’ll get it to you.” “You'd better do. I can’t keep doing this with you. The only reason I’ve let you off all this while is because of your mother. If I don’t get it by the end of this week, I'm going to have to throw you out.” My breath hitched. “It won’t get to that, I promise,” I said. “I’ll see you at the end of the week.” He turned around and left. I closed the door and almost started crying again. If I paid the rent this week, basically all my savings would be gone. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t even have the chance to breathe before I got a phone call from the hospital. My mother had another episode. They had managed to stabilize her but her condition had worsened. She needed surgery urgently but she wasn’t going to get that in that hospital. Slowly, I turned around and stared at the piece of paper in the trash. I wasn’t going to be reduced to that, was I?CHAPTER FIFTYADRIAN’S POVI originally didn’t plan to come with my mum to see Theo and Isabella. After much convincing from her, I finally caved in. My original plan was to go to therapy and get better as much as I could before I got back in contact with Isabella and Theo.I also didn’t plan to ask Isabella to move to Chicago permanently. It just happened. I didn’t regret asking her though. I gave it some thought and it would be a hassle flying back and forth between Manchester and Chicago. If I wanted to be active in Theo's life, I needed him by my side. After our day at the amusement park, my mum and I returned to our hotel after having dinner with Theo and Isabella.“I asked her to move to Chicago permanently.” I told my mum.“Really? What did she have to say about it?” She asked.“Nothing much.” I shrugged my shoulders. “She refused. She said she has a life here. Her bookstore was the only tangible thing she could mention.”“Don't be like that.” She slapped my back. “That booksto
CHAPTER FORTY-NINE ISABELLA’S POVAlmost two weeks had passed since Julius and I ended things. He had cleared everything he had from the house. Luckily, he left the car with me even though it was in his name. After our last conversation, we never had the chance to talk things through even though I reached out to him for a real conversation. I decided to just let it go and give up on having the closure I wanted.Adrian and Vivian kept calling and texting me for a week straight. After much ignoring, I decided to reply to both of them. They were relieved to find out that Theo and I were okay.I was spending most of my time at the bookstore. The repairs were moving faster than I imagined. Luckily, the damages were not too severe so they could work faster. I convinced myself I was helping them by being in the store all day. After they finished their work for the day, I locked up and headed to pick Theo up from daycare. “How was your day?” I asked when we got in the car.“Fine.” He sighed
CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHTISABELLA’S POVIt had been about three days since we got back from Chicago. I was taking the whole week to rest before I got back into the routine that was my life. As Adrian promised, he gave me the money to pay for the repair of my bookstore. I was excited to start working on that.I woke up with a smile on my face and a breath of fresh air. Julius wasn’t beside me. I went to the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth. Julius wasn't in the living room when I went outside. He wasn’t in the kitchen either. Theo was still asleep in his room.He didn’t leave any message to tell me where he would be going. I decided to call him. He didn't pick up even though I called him about four times. I decided to just wait to see when he would return.I went to the kitchen and started making breakfast. By the time I was done plating the food and was about to go to Theo’s room to wake him up, Julius came back home.“Hey. Where’d you go?” I asked.“Out.” He had an angry expre
CHAPTER FORTY-SEVENADRIAN’S POVI finally gave in to Sebastian’s advice and visited my therapist again. He forced me to have daily sessions with her. I stopped seeing her about two years ago. It felt overwhelming talking about my problems so I decided to quit and just bottle up everything. I’d just finished my third session for the week and was heading back home. I decided to stop by my mother's house. We hadn’t had a chance to talk properly since what happened.I got out of the car and went inside the house. It was a bit dark but my mother wasn’t inside the house. She was in the backyard. It seemed like that was the only place you could find her these days. She had stepped down as CEO and taken a long break. She spent most of her time in the house.I walked up to her. “Mother.” I said.“Adrian.” She turned around. “How are you doing?” She hugged me.“I’m doing well. How’ve you been?”“I’ve been better. I’m definitely feeling the emptiness of Theo and Isabella leaving.”“Yeah.” I si
CHAPTER FORTY-SIXISABELLA’S POVThings went sideways fast. One minute I was yelling at Adrian and the next minute, his lips were on mine. When I finally registered what was happening I shoved him really hard. Before he had the chance to say anything, I doubled down and slapped him across his cheek.“Isabella.” He held his face.“What the heck is wrong with you? Why would you do that?”“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.” He apologized. “You just kissed me and you’re sorry? What in the world possessed you to do that?”“I really didn't mean to. It was an honest mistake.”“Get out. I was willing to hear you out but this just threw me off.”“Sorry.” He didn’t fight with me about it anymore. He left the room rubbing his cheek. I touched my lips and I could still feel the imprint of his lips. I shook my head and finished up my packing. We had about four hours until we had to head to the airport. I headed back downstairs. Vivian was in the living room. Theo and Adrian were outside together.“I
CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE ADRIAN’S POVI thought drowning myself in work would make me get some type of relief but I was wrong. I tried everything. I drank and smoked until my body couldn’t take it anymore. I decided to take my frustrations somewhere else. The perfect opportunity landed in my lap when Christine texted me again. I invited her over to the house and we fucked. I still couldn’t get enough of it.We were in the middle of doing our business when the door to the room opened. I stopped in my tracks and turned around. The last person I expected to see was standing right there with her mouth open in shock. She slammed the door shut. “Who is that?” Christine asked.“Wait here for me.” I got away from her and grabbed the duvet and used it to wrap the lower part of my body. I went down the stairs and saw her. “Isabella, what are you doing here?” “I, I.” I could understand her shock.“I asked you a question.” I said.“I forgot my and Theo’s passport so I came here to collect them.” She
