The dress fitting is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

I'm in the middle of lunch with Bella when Carmen appears in the doorway, her expression troubled.

"April, there's someone here to see you."

"Who?"

"A young woman. Says her name is Jess Martinez. Says she's an old friend." Carmen's tone suggests she doesn't believe the "friend" part. "Alpha Raven isn't home. Should I send her away?"

Jess. The girl who dared me to kiss Tyler. The girl who set this entire nightmare in motion. The girl who disappeared the moment Tyler grabbed me.

"No," I say, standing. "I'll see her."

Bella grabs my wrist. "Are you sure? That's the one who—"

"I know who she is." I gently pull free. "I need to hear what she has to say."

Jess is waiting in the formal living room, perched on the edge of a sofa like she's ready to bolt. She looks terrible with dark circles under her eyes, her clothes wrinkled, and her usually perfect hair pulled into a messy ponytail.

She stands when I enter. "April. Thank god. I did

When I return to the dining room, Tyler and Liam are deep in discussion about seating charts."April." Tyler looks up. "Liam wants to seat Mitchell in the back. I want him at the front where we can watch him.""Neither of those sound good," I say."That's what I said," Liam mutters."What if we don't invite him at all?"Both men stare at me."He's pack," Liam says carefully. "Not inviting him would be a massive insult. It could be grounds for a formal challenge.""So we invite him and let him sabotage the wedding?""We invite him and out-maneuver him," Tyler says. He's looking at me with something like respect. "You're thinking strategically.""I'm thinking practically. Mitchell wants you to fail. The wedding is the perfect opportunity." I sit back down. "So what if we control the opportunity? Give him a role that keeps him busy and watched."Liam leans forward. "Like what?""Like making him groomsman," I say. The idea crystallizes as I speak. "He's your brother. It would look weird i

Liam arrives exactly at eight with a three-ring binder, two laptops, and the kind of military precision that makes me instantly nervous."Good morning, lovebirds." He sets up at the dining table like he's establishing a command center. "We have fourteen days to plan a wedding that will satisfy the Council, impress the pack, and not trigger an international incident. Let's begin."I'm still in my pajamas. Tyler is drinking coffee like it's the only thing keeping him upright. Neither of us looks ready for this."International incident?" I ask."Mitchell has allies in three neighboring territories. If the wedding looks weak or rushed, they'll use it as evidence that Tyler's position is unstable." Liam opens the first binder. "So we're going big. Cathedral venue, five hundred guests, full pack ceremony followed by human reception."Five hundred people.I think I'm going to be sick."April's turning green," Tyler observes."I'm fine.""You're panicking.""I'm processing." I sit down across

Twenty minutes later, we're down at the private beach below The Eyrie.Wade carried Bella down the cliff path like she weighs nothing. Tyler walked beside them, his hand never leaving Bella's arm, ready to catch her if Wade faltered. I followed with Carmen, who brought enough blankets and thermoses of hot chocolate to supply an arctic expedition. The beach is small, sheltered by rock formations on either side. The sand is grey-gold, still damp from high tide. The ocean churns green-blue, white foam racing up the shore.Wade sets Bella down on a thick blanket spread over the sand. Carmen wraps her in two more blankets. Tyler hovers."I'm fine," Bella insists, shooing them away. "Go. Walk. Give me five minutes to just be here."Tyler looks like he'd rather chew glass."Come on," I say, tugging his hand. "She needs space."We walk along the waterline. Tyler's hand is warm in mine, his grip tight."She's okay," I say quietly."For now.""For now is enough.""Is it?" He stops, facing the o

Morning light cuts through the bedroom windows at harsh angles.I'm still wearing yesterday's clothes. Tyler's arms wrap around me, his chest against my back, his breathing deep. We fell asleep on top of the covers like exhausted soldiers. My neck throbs where he bandaged the claw marks. My hip aches. But those pains fade compared to the war in my chest.I'm falling for Tyler Raxon Raven.I admitted it last night. Out loud.He admitted it back. Sort of."It's the closest I've come to it in twelve years." Not "I love you." Not even "I'm falling for you." Just an acknowledgment that what he feels resembles love.It shouldn't be enough. But it is.Tyler's arm tightens around my waist, pulling me closer. His face burrows into my hair, and he inhales deeply. Scent marking me even in sleep."You're thinking too loud," he murmurs against my neck."I'm not thinking at all.""Liar." His lips brush the shell of my ear. "I can feel your pulse racing.""That's not thinking. That's panic.""About?

"The wedding is in two weeks," Tyler says finally."I know.""After that, you'll be Luna. You'll have real power. Real protection." His hands frame my face. "But April, you need to understand something. Once we do this, once the vows are said and the pack recognizes you, there's no going back. Ever. Even if you wanted to leave, even if you changed your mind, you'd be bound to me for life.""Is that a warning or a threat?""Both." He kisses my forehead. "I'm selfish enough to want you and honest enough to tell you that choosing me is choosing a life of violence and danger and constant threat. You could still walk away. Tell me no. I'd find another solution.""Would you really let me go?"He's quiet for a long moment. "No. Probably not. But I'd like to think I would.""At least you're honest.""It's the only thing I can give you. Honesty. I'll never lie to you about what I am or what this life entails. You deserve at least that much."I pull back to look at him. "Then be honest now. Do

Despite the pain, he smiles. "You really are bossy.""You really are stubborn."I finish cleaning the wounds and apply antiseptic. He doesn't flinch this time, though I know it must burn. I cover everything with gauze and medical tape, my fingers gentle against his skin."There," I say, stepping back. "Try not to get into any more fights for at least twenty-four hours.""I'll do my best." He catches my wrist before I can move away. "April.""Yeah?""Thank you." His thumb strokes the inside of my wrist, right over my pulse. "For this. For talking me down at the boutique. For... staying.""Where would I go?""Anywhere. Away from me. Away from the violence and the blood and the constant danger." His eyes search mine. "You should run, April. You should get as far away from me as possible.""We've had this conversation.""I know. But I need to say it again. After today, after you saw what I really am when I lose control, you should be terrified of me.""I am terrified of you."He flinches
