LOGINGibran’s car had just rounded the corner toward the apartment complex when a silver sedan cut sharply across their path, forcing Gibran to slam on the brakes. The tires screeched loudly against the asphalt.
“Hey! Are you crazy?! Do you want to die?!” Gibran cursed, punching the steering wheel.
A bespectacled man in a neat suit stepped out of the sedan. It was Teddy. He walked calmly toward Gibran’s car, ignoring Gibran’s murderous glare.
“Gibran, relax. I just want to help our friend who’s confused here,” Teddy said calmly, tapping on the window glass.
“Teddy? What are you doing here?” Budi asked, his heart pounding rapidly.
“Budi, get out. You look pale as hell. Come with me; I have a place that can calm you down,” Teddy replied, his eyes staring intently at Budi’s neck.
“Don’t listen to him, Bud! He just wants to take advantage!” Gibran shouted, his eyes starting to turn red as he fought back his lust.
“Gibran, please. I just want to rest. I’m tired,” Budi interrupted as he opened the car door.
“Budi, wait!” Gibran tried to stop him, but Teddy quickly grabbed Budi’s hand, pulling the young man into his silver sedan. The car sped off quickly, leaving Gibran screaming in frustration in the middle of the street.
Inside the car, Teddy didn’t say much. He only occasionally glanced at Budi through the rearview mirror with a mysterious thin smile. Soon, they arrived at an unmarked concrete building on the outskirts of town.
“What is this place, Ted? Why is it so quiet?” Budi asked hesitantly as they entered a room filled with medical equipment.
“A small research lab. Relax, this is the safest place from people like Gibran or Rocky,” Teddy answered while taking off his jacket.
“Are you really going to help me? I swear, I can’t take it anymore. This smell... it has ruined my life,” Budi whispered softly as he sat on a metal chair.
“I know, Bud. Here, give me your hand. I need to check what actually entered your bloodstream,” Teddy said.
Budi extended his trembling hand. Teddy began drawing blood samples with a syringe. The atmosphere was silent, with only the soft ticking of the monitoring devices audible.
“How is it, Ted? What’s wrong with me?”
“The results are interesting, Budi. Very rare,” Teddy muttered while staring at the monitor screen. “You aren’t under a mystical curse. You were exposed to toxins from an ancient species of sea snail that went extinct. That substance reacted with your pheromone hormones, transforming them into an aroma that is... well, very tempting for men with high aggression levels.”
“Damn it! So I’ve literally become a walking perfume? Is there a cure? I want to be normal again!” Budi pressed urgently.
Teddy chuckled lightly and picked up a syringe containing a clear liquid. “Normal is relative, Bud. But if you want that smell gone temporarily, I can inject this.”
“Will it really disappear? Thank you so much, Ted! You’re truly my savior!” Budi exclaimed hopefully.
“Yes, don’t worry. But there’s a condition,” Teddy approached and gently injected the fluid into Budi’s arm.
Budi felt a cold sensation spreading through his veins. The usually pungent vanilla aroma slowly faded, replaced by a neutral scent that allowed Budi to breathe easily.
“Wow, damn! It’s really gone? Thanks, Ted! How much do I owe you?”
“No money needed. I just want you to come here every day for routine checkups. I need data on your hormonal changes,” Teddy stated, looking at Budi with an intensity that made Budi feel uneasy.
“Every day? But I work, Ted,” Budi protested.
“Do you want to go back to feeling like meat being chased by lions in the streets, or do you want to live peacefully under my supervision?” Teddy countered with a cold tone.
Budi fell silent. The threats from Rocky and the obsession of Gibran suddenly flashed through his mind. “Okay, okay. I’ll come here. Thanks, Ted. Can I head back now?”
“Go ahead, Budi. See you tomorrow,” Teddy replied with a wave.
After Budi left the laboratory, Teddy turned back to his desk. He took out a notebook and wrote something in red ink.
Subject: Budi. Aroma suppressant effect: Stable. Duration: 24 hours.
Teddy stared at the tightly closed door with a predator’s smirk. “Enjoy your twenty-four hours of freedom, Budi. Because after tomorrow, you will belong entirely to my research. This aroma... is too valuable to be wasted on fools like Rocky or Gibran.”
Outside, Budi walked with light steps, unaware that he had just jumped from the lion’s mouth into the cage of a scientist far hungrier for power. He could only smile faintly, relieved that for the first time in a long while, the world was no longer looking at him with hungry eyes. Budi did not know that the wall clock in Teddy’s laboratory had begun counting backward, tallying the remaining time before the aroma returned, and before Teddy initiated the next phase of his "harvest."
The quiet night on the streets felt like a gift after Budi left Teddy’s laboratory. The neutral scent enveloping his body was a blessing, as if all the madness that had befallen him today was merely a nightmare that vanished upon waking. Budi quickened his pace, eager to reach his apartment, lock himself in, and forget all the hungry gazes that had chased him. He even managed a small smile, feeling a relief he hadn’t experienced in a long time. However, when he arrived at the lobby of his apartment building, that smile instantly disappeared. Loud thuds and angry shouts greeted him. In the middle of the now chaotic lobby, amidst broken flower pots and an overturned receptionist chair, Rocky and Daniel were exchanging blows. Rocky wore track pants and a sleeveless shirt soaked with sweat, while Daniel was still in his expensive suit, which was now slightly torn at the sleeves. Both their faces were flushed red, their eyes glowing with equal intensity.“Hey, you bastard! What are you doi

Night had just fallen, but cold sweat still flooded Budi’s temples. After escaping Rocky’s gym, he felt as though every pair of eyes on the streets of Jakarta was staring at him with the same lust. Sure enough, as he passed through a narrow alley near the Senopati area, three strange men who looked thirsty began to surround him.“Hey, you smell amazing! Come here, don’t run!” one of the men shouted, his eyes glowing red.Budi pumped his legs harder. “Damn it, am I getting a free trial as city predator bait or what?!” Budi cursed while looking back.Suddenly, a metallic black sports car sped by and stopped right next to Budi. The passenger door swung wide open.“Budi! Get in, hurry up! Damn, why are you being chased again?!” Gibran cried out from behind the wheel, his face looking panicked yet tense.Without thinking twice, Budi jumped inside. The door closed, and Gibran immediately stepped on the gas until the tires screeched against the asphalt.“Gibran? Why are you here? Thanks, I s
Budi was panting as he stepped into Rocky’s gym. Cold sweat soaked his back despite the double-layered leather jacket he wore. He figured that in a place crowded with people pumping iron, he would be safe. His logic was simple: Rocky wouldn’t dare act recklessly in front of so many witnesses.“Damn it, I hope this place can serve as my fortress,” Budi muttered quietly. No sooner had he walked past the receptionist than he spotted Rocky flexing his biceps in front of a large mirror. The man’s eyes accidentally caught sight of Budi. Instantly, Rocky’s movements froze. He dropped his barbell with a loud crash that silenced the entire gym for a moment.“Budi? It’s rare to see you seeking out a workout here, Bro,” Rocky’s voice boomed. He approached with heavy steps, his muscles glistening with sweat looking incredibly intimidating.“I... I just wanted to exercise, Rock. You know, to stay healthy,” Budi replied nervously, trying to keep his distance.Rocky stopped right in front of Budi. H
Budi’s apartment door shook violently. The sound of Rocky pounding from outside still echoed like a concrete crusher. Budi collapsed onto the floor, his breath ragged. That sweet aroma—a nauseating mix of vanilla and caramel—still wafted from his pores.“Holy crap, is this guy possessed or what? He’s totally insane!” Budi cursed, covering his nose with his dirty shirt. He got up, ran to the bathroom, and cranked the water tap to maximum. He scrubbed his body with bar soap, shampoo, even pungent floor cleaner. However, every time he rinsed himself off, that intoxicating scent only grew stronger.“This isn’t working. I can’t let this slide. I have to go to work; if I skip it, Daniel will lose it,” Budi muttered, staring into the mirror. His face was pale, but his eyes looked more alive, more sparkling than usual. The next morning, Budi arrived at the office wrapped in a thick leather jacket and wearing three layers of masks. He tried to hold his breath whenever he passed by his coworker
The afternoon sun at Sanur Beach was not being kind. Budi, a young man who spent his days saving up loose change for a single packet of Nasi Padang, was picking through the gaps between sharp coral rocks. His stomach growled like an old motorcycle engine that had stalled.“Damn it, are there no edible clams here? They’re all empty shells,” Budi muttered, wiping sweat from his forehead with the back of his dirty hand.Suddenly, his eyes caught something glinting behind a jagged crevice in the rock. It was a small snail, but its color wasn’t like any ordinary shell—it pulsed with neon purple light, resembling the party lights in a nightclub.“Whoa, is this a snail or a disco ball? That’s seriously cool. I bet I could sell it for a high price as decoration for some rich person’s aquarium,” Budi said as he moved closer. He extended his index finger, intending to pick up the object. But faster than lightning, the snail leaped and bit Budi’s finger.“OW! Holy crap! That hurts so much, hey!
