Chapter 3

작가: Ori
I got home, exhausted, and pressed the switch.

The light flickered once, then went out completely. I pressed it again and again, only for the ceiling light not to respond at all.

Cold moonlight spilled into the bedroom. I fell onto the bed and let my mind drift back to what had happened today.

One sentence had extinguished everything. Blake had bent down to pick up the skirt that had fallen to the floor. There was conflict and confusion in his eyes.

After standing there for a long time, he chose to leave.

The sage was still sitting in the glass case on the counter. He hadn’t taken it.

I had been completely wrong. He was a good wolf. I shouldn’t have treated him that way.

Yet, the heat stirred inside my body hadn’t faded. Maybe it was because it had been too long. My body, neglected for far too long, felt like dry land cracked by drought, endlessly craving rain.

“Carter.”

I whispered his name. A sudden, burning desire rose in my chest. I wanted him to kiss me and hold me.

I wanted more.

My hand moved down without restraint.

“Did that wolf fail to satisfy you?”

Behind the door, a he-wolf stood in the shadows. Pale green eyes glinted faintly in the darkness.

He moved too fast. Before I could react, I was pinned beneath him. A strange scent filled my nose and mouth. His hand clamped tightly around my wrist, the force making escape impossible.

“Watching was enough to make me hard,” he said close to my ear. “Madam, you’re responsible for that.”

He used his teeth to tug open the buttons at my collar, exposing a stretch of pale skin at my shoulder hollow.

“Stop! Or I’ll turn you in to the patrol!”

I twisted beneath him, trying to break free.

“I’d advise against that. This afternoon, at the shop, I saw you with that other wolf.” His smile deepened. “I even recorded it.”

My blood ran cold.

My underwear was torn away. His tongue traced slowly over me, his teeth grinding deliberately.

“What do you want? I can give you money—”

“I don’t need your money.” He unhurriedly pulled off his shirt with one hand. A long scar ran from his left shoulder across his broad chest to his right waist.

He thrust his hips hard against my thigh. The massive bulge strained against his pants, swollen and rigid, on the verge of tearing through the fabric.

“Looking forward to it?” He unfastened his belt. His arousal sprang free as he forced my legs apart. “Let me take care of you. I guarantee I’m far better than the one from this afternoon.”

“Don’t—”

He grabbed my ankles, pulled me into position, and drove into me.

A satisfied whimper escaped my control.

The pleasure from flesh colliding surged like electric currents, wave after wave crashing into my foggy mind. The rising climax overwhelmed my senses.

I bit down hard on my lip to keep the sweet sounds from spilling out.

“The wolf from this afternoon doesn’t seem to be the same one as the man in that photo on your nightstand.”

Dazed, I followed his gaze.

In the photo on the nightstand, Carter was smiling at me.

For a brief moment, clarity pierced my clouded mind.

“Mm… Carter… forgive me.”

Tears blurred my vision. Guilt tore at my heart while my body cried out in pleasure, pulling my soul in opposite directions.

“Between me and that guy from earlier, who’s better?”

His thin lips traced downward, kissing my waist, my lower belly, the inside of my thighs. He brushed past my sensitive spots, layering fresh marks over old ones, leaving red impressions that made me shiver.

“Relax.” He let out a low grunt and slapped my backside. “Judging by how good you feel, it’s clearly me, right?”

“You’re the worst I’ve ever had!”

My struggle meant nothing to him, no more than a feather landing in his palm. His short, low laugh echoed in the darkness, sharp with undisguised mockery.

“Your body says otherwise.” He thrust hard. “Or is it better doing this in front of that photo?”

Those pale green eyes reminded me of Carter.

But…

Carter has been dead for a long time.

  • The Second Approach   Chapter 8

The warehouse doors burst open as the patrol unit stormed in, swiftly taking down the thugs hiding in the shadows. At the same time, the he-wolf kept chasing Rex as he fled toward the rooftop.“Who the hell are you? Why won’t you leave me alone?!” Rex shouted as he ran.He staggered forward with a gun in hand. His clothes were soaked red. There was a bullet lodged in his thigh, blood pouring freely from the wound. The cold rooftop wind carried the stench of blood, ripping open his torn jacket and exposing the scar across his chest. That familiar smell, that scar…Rex snapped.“So it’s you! Carter, who would’ve thought you were still alive?”“It’s me. Surrender, Rex Stone.”“Surrender? In your dreams!”Rex pulled a pill from his pocket and swallowed it dry. Almost instantly, his eyes reddened and his muscles swelled until his clothes split. Ignoring the gun in Carter’s hand, he roared and charged. He was faster than before, and Carter’s gun was knocked aside.“Carter! Tod

Warehouse No. 3 at the old dock reeked of rust and rotting seaweed. When the iron door was pushed open, the hinges screamed. He walked in wearing the same worn jacket he always did, hands tucked into his pockets.Every gun in the room swung toward him. There was no surprise on his face, only calm. However, the moment one of the thugs yanked my hair and shoved me in front of the kidnapper, a sharp flicker crossed his eyes.“You came faster than I expected.”The leader straddled a chair, wiping his knife with a white cloth, casual and unhurried. “Looks like inviting this lady over was a smart move.”“Rex. This is between you and me. Let the she-wolf go.”“Let her go?” Rex laughed as if he’d heard a joke. “Who the hell do you think I am? You tell me to release her, and I just do it?”“Smack!”The slap came without warning. Blood flooded my mouth with the taste of rust, and my right ear rang violently.“Don’t touch her!”He lunged forward, but the guns pinned him in place.“If

The fall morning was dull and gray, and a chill hung in the air. The leaves hadn’t fully turned yet, but they clung weakly to the branches, drained of color and life. The road leading to the cemetery was always quiet, no matter the time of day.Carter’s grave lay on the eastern side.I crouched down and placed the white lilies I was holding in front of his headstone. In the photo, he was smiling brightly.“I came to see you again.” I pulled my coat tighter around myself and spoke softly. “A lot has happened lately. You know… not long ago, someone started pursuing me again. His name is Blake Miller. He works at the bookstore nearby. He’s a good person…“I also met a he-wolf. I don’t know his name, but… his eyes look a lot like yours.”The cold wind stirred the fallen leaves on the ground. They brushed against each other with a soft rustling sound.“Carter, I really miss you.”I stood there for a while longer, saying nothing else. The mess inside my head was tangled beyond sort

  • The Second Approach   Chapter 5

Too many strange things had happened over the past few days.Carter, Blake, Kathy, and that wolf. They circled endlessly in my head, tangling my thoughts into a mess. Alcohol seemed to be the only way to avoid facing any of it.Amber liquid swirled in the glass, reflecting the murky lights hanging from the bar ceiling.I took a gulp. The burn of whiskey scorched its way from my throat down into my stomach.“Drinking alone is boring.” A shadow carrying the stench of smoke and alcohol loomed over me. A hand settled naturally on my bare shoulder. “Mind if I join you?”I didn’t move or look up. I just stared at my own reflection distorted along the curve of the glass. When he saw that I hadn’t refused him, the hand on my shoulder began to roam.“Don’t be so cold.” He leaned closer, the reek of cheap tobacco mixed with food washing over me. “Once you experience me, you might change your mind.”The vulgar words made my stomach churn.I tried to pull away, but the hand gripping m

I dreamed of a sunny fall day from a year ago.Carter spoke to me quietly through our mind-link, telling me what he wanted to eat after getting back from patrol. Meanwhile, I stood in the grocery store, organizing newly arrived stock and smiling as I answered him. However, my heart wouldn’t settle. A faint unease lingered, as if something was about to happen.“Okay, I’ll buy it tomorrow, but you have to be careful out th—”Before I could finish, a sharp pain exploded in my chest, as if a blade had torn straight through me.The agony ripped at my soul. My head rang violently.Carter was hurt. The mind-link between us told me the truth—Carter had been severely injured. My face drained of color. I dropped to my knees, bracing myself against the floor, forcing my mind to steady as I tried to reach him.“Car… Carter.”A sense of death surged relentlessly through the link.“Hold on, please… Please, you have to hold on!”I kept praying, tears pouring from my eyes and splashing on
