Chapter 3:Finding a job

Ronan accepted a family alliance and married a stranger he didn't know. After the marriage, he began to live a debauched life, indulging in luxuries to deceive those in the family. However, in secret, he was steadily consolidating his power, waiting for the day when he could completely control Zenith Ventures.

As for the woman he married, he didn't even remember her name or face. Yet, this woman had self-awareness and never uttered a word about his philandering ways. Every month, he would allocate a meager ten thousand dollars as her living expenses. Considering she was his wife, the amount seemed too paltry, especially when he easily spent hundreds of thousands on the celebrities he dated.

Nevertheless, once Cordelia Locke's surgery was successful, he planned to divorce her and provide substantial alimony for the understanding wife.

"Lyra! Open the door!" Urgent knocking echoed from outside.

Lyra, busy applying for jobs online, startled and hurried to open the door. As she did, a red figure rushed in - bright-eyed, sharp, and full of vigor. Who else could it be but Calla?

"I heard you punched Lumi Hawthorne!" Calla's excitement mixed with gossip.

Lyra pressed her lips together, took a breath, and replied, "She's the woman Ronan brought home."

"What!" Calla's pupils contracted. She cursed, "So, she's that despicable woman! I knew it. Why wouldn't you hit her? Well done!" She clenched her fist, exclaiming, "It's a pity I wasn't there; I'd have beaten this shameless homewrecker to death!"

Lyra sighed, somewhat resigned. "Although I got my anger out, I lost my job."

Calla leaned closer, patting her back in comfort. "It's not a big deal! My dad often says, 'Misfortune may be a blessing in disguise.' Maybe you'll find an even better job soon."

Lyra was about to respond when her phone rang suddenly.

Feeling a bit tense, Lyra and Calla exchanged a glance. Lyra picked up the phone; it was an unknown number.

"Is this Miss Lyra?"

"Yes, who's this?"

"I'm from the Human Resources department of Horizon Global Enterprises Inc. We saw your resume online and would like you to attend an interview."

Calla, excited, urged her by gestures, mouthing, "Say yes!"

After confirming the appointment, Calla widened her eyes. "It's Horizon Global Enterprises Inc.! Lyra, you're so lucky!"

Lyra looked perplexed. Calla quickly explained, "Horizon Global Enterprises Inc. is a company that emerged in the last two years. Rumor has it they're a major player, akin to your husband's Zenith Ventures."

Just as Calla finished, she grimaced and hit herself on the mouth. "I said the wrong thing again! Why did I mention that scumbag?"

"Calla, help me pick out an outfit for the interview!" Lyra said, ignoring the comment about her husband.

"Sure thing!" Calla immediately jumped up.

While Lyra changed her clothes, Calla noticed the scar on her right arm and couldn't help but comment, "That scar hasn't healed yet?"

Touching the gruesome scar on her arm, Lyra smiled, "It's a burn, won't heal."

Calla sighed, "What a pity, leaving a scar."

"I was focused on saving someone at that time, didn't think much about it."

"You saved someone just like Ronan, a thankless person who vanished without a word!"

"I couldn't see clearly in the thick smoke at that time," Lyra replied with a smile.

"Is this her?"

In the spacious and bright CEO office of Horizon Global Enterprises Inc., a handsome man held Lyra's resume.

"Yes, according to our investigation, she is Ronan's wife," the assistant replied.

"Hmm, this is getting more interesting," the man lifted his eyes. Oh, those beautiful and aristocratic eyes! A determined smile curled his lips, "Good, Ronan will be surprised!"

Lyra and other applicants waited in the Horizon Global Enterprises Inc. conference room for interviews.

Shortly after, the conference room door opened, and a secretary-like woman entered, carrying a tray with several cups filled with beverages.

"Please have a drink, everyone!" She distributed the cups from the tray.

As the cup was handed to Lyra, just as she reached out to take it, the woman accidentally spilled the water all over her!

"Sorry, it was not intentional!" The woman apologized profusely.

Lyra bent down, realizing the woman had handed her a cup of watermelon juice. Her white shirt was now stained red, particularly the chest, a sight not fit for public display.

"It's okay, I'll clean up." Lyra politely excused herself, opened the conference room door, and headed towards the restroom.

Looking down and walking towards the restroom, Lyra fortunately didn't encounter anyone on her way, avoiding further embarrassment.

Arriving at the restroom door, without paying much attention, she pushed the door and entered.

Approaching the sink and mirror, Lyra stared at her white shirt stained with fruit juice, especially the large red patch on her chest, a truly distressing sight.

"She wouldn't make it back in time to change clothes now," Lyra clenched her teeth and decisively unbuttoned her shirt, stripping off the stained white shirt, revealing her fair skin in only a bra to the open air.

Turning on the tap, Lyra pumped hand soap into her palms and began to rub and clean the stains off the white shirt on the washbasin. Suddenly, the door of the adjacent private restroom swung open, revealing a tall figure standing there, freezing upon the sight of Lyra's smooth, fair back.

Caught in the reflection of the mirror, Lyra noticed the towering figure behind her. Her pupils contracted, her lips slightly parted, holding the shirt she was washing, she stood there in shock, staring at the man in the mirror.

After a long moment, she finally screamed, turning around in alarm, and hurriedly covering herself with the damp shirt. But... wasn't it a bit too late?

The man avoided her panicked gaze, his eyes averted. He gently spoke, "Miss, you're in the wrong place."

Lyra hastily grabbed the shirt, pressing it against her chest. The heat was rising within her; through gritted teeth, she retorted, "You're the one in the wrong place! Your whole family is in the wrong place! You, you pervert, actually entered the women's restroom!"

A soft smile lingered on the man's lips as he gestured around, calmly stating, "This is the men's restroom."

What? Lyra suddenly realized, her movements stiffening. She turned her gaze and noticed the urinal meant for men.

Her face flushed red instantly. Suddenly, feeling a chill on her chest, she glanced down only to find her soaked shirt lying on the ground.

Ah! How did she not notice and run into the men's restroom?

In a fluster, she bent down to pick up the wet garment, covering her exposed chest. The man stood not far away, hands in his pockets, looking comfortably relaxed.

Under his gaze, Lyra's face reddened from her cheeks to her neck!

The man coughed lightly, gentlemanly saying, "I'll leave. You'd better go to the adjacent ladies' room!"

"Wait a moment!" Lyra suddenly spoke.

The man's hand was already on the doorknob, turning back to look at her in confusion.

Could it be that she wasn't as gentle and obedient as rumored, and also had a scheming side? At that thought, his pupils suddenly contracted.

Raising an eyebrow, he elegantly extended his hand, unbuttoning the gray suit he wore.

He handed her the discarded suit, but as his gaze touched her chest, his eyes dimmed momentarily, swiftly averting his gaze, turning and leaving without a word.

Lyra quickly put on her drenched white shirt, feeling a shiver from the cold fabric, and goosebumps rising on her skin. Then she put on the man's suit jacket.

The suit jacket carried a faint scent and a hint of warmth.

Quickly adjusting herself, she had to face the upcoming interview in good form.

Deep breath in, glancing at her wristwatch, five minutes until the interview.

Wrapped in the men's suit jacket, Lyra calmly opened the door and walked out.

During Lyra's interview, several interviewers exchanged glances.

One of them, holding her resume, asked, "Miss Lyra, about your attire?"

"I accidentally got my clothes wet and couldn't change. Someone lent me this," Lyra explained.

The HR manager of the interview silently retracted his gaze. That light-colored Armani suit jacket had been seen on the CEO in the morning meeting.

"Please discuss your concepts about fashion design," they prompted.

The interview proceeded smoothly. Lyra was not just a decorative presence. She had been diligent in her studies, handling all questions with ease.

The HR manager nodded approvingly, "You fit our company's requirements well, but you'll need to go through the final interview. You must pass our CEO's assessment."

Lyra nodded repeatedly, "When can I attend the final interview?"

"Please follow me!"

Lyra was led outside the CEO's office.

"The CEO is currently hosting a video conference. Please wait here," the secretary said politely.

"Okay." Lyra sat quietly in the waiting area outside the CEO's office, occasionally craning her neck to peek inside.

An alluring, rich, and magnetic voice emanated from the office through the partition, catching Lyra's attention. She found the voice somewhat familiar, but then she shrugged it off. How could she possibly know the CEO of Horizon Global Enterprises Inc.?

About an hour passed before the video conference concluded inside, and Lyra was summoned by the secretary.

In the spacious CEO's office, meticulously organized, a man sat with his back towards her, in front of the desk.

Clearing her throat, Lyra politely said, "Hello, I'm Lyra, here for the final interview."

As the man's chair slowly turned around, a handsome face met Lyra's eyes, causing her to involuntarily exclaim, "It's you!"

To Lyra's surprise, the CEO of Horizon Global Enterprises Inc. was the same man from the restroom! What a coincidence!

"How... how come you're here?" Lyra didn't know what to say and nearly bit her tongue!

The man merely smiled faintly, stood up, and walked to her, extending his hand, "Hello, I'm Torin Graves."

Lyra couldn't help but tighten the men's suit jacket she wore, awkwardly shaking his hand, "Hello, I'm Lyra."

Thinking about her embarrassing incident moments ago, a faint red blush crept onto Lyra's fair face, feeling awkward as she diverted her gaze.

Torin took in every expression on her small face.

Her fair skin and cheeks were adorned with a touch of healthy pink, bright, sparkling eyes exuding youthful vigor.

Torin's elongated black eyes narrowed slightly, a flicker of an unfathomable sharpness passing through them.

He glanced at her resume, carefully studying it for a while before speaking slowly, "The HR department's selection never gave me any objections."

He smiled at her, "If the compensation doesn't pose any issue for you, you can start working tomorrow."

Lyra was a bit puzzled; the salary for this position at Horizon Global Enterprises Inc. was high. During her interview, she had seen many people eagerly preparing to compete for this position.

Why did they choose her, who had no work experience?

Could it be?

Perplexed, she raised her eyes, quickly scanning the man in front of her. Her heart sank as she realized. She hastily stood up, speaking stiffly, "I'm sorry, I'm afraid I can't handle this job!"

Torin slightly narrowed his eyes, leaning back in his chair, casually saying, "Reasons?"

Lyra raised her chin slightly, stating her doubts, "I have no work experience, and my education isn't the highest. Why did your esteemed company choose me?"

A dangerous smile curled at the corners of Torin's mouth. Lazily, he replied, "Since that's the case, I won't insist. However, please return my jacket before you leave."
