Chapter 53

We stayed with Drew that night and left early in the morning. As soon as we got home I went straight to bed, I was really exhausted.

I was about to close my eyes to slump into a deep sleep. I was on the brink of exhaustion, my body yearning for rest.

Every part of my muscle ached, my eyelids were heavy with fatigue. Then the insistent ringing of my phone jolted me awake.

I groaned, as I reached for my phone and squinted at the caller ID. It was Evie.

"Hey," I said in a tired voice, trying to sound as alert as possible.

"I haven't heard from Drew since he dropped me off last night after our date," she said in a worried tone.

"I'm sorry, Evie. I probably should have called you earlier," I replied, my voice more composed now.

"You're scaring me, Brielle. What happened??" she asked frantically, her voice full of concern.

"Drew was in an accident," I said and paused, waiting for her reaction. I could hear her gasp in shock, and her breathing became shallow.
