- Charlotte -

I didn't think. My eyes darted to Arthur who stated back at me with venomous fury, clutching his ribs where he'd been thrown into the dresser.

A promise of retribution blazing in his eyes before I looked back up at Logan's emerald unwavering gaze, his large tattooed hand still extended even as his chest heaved with restraint.

He looked older - harder. He was wider than I remembered, covered with muscles and more tattoos covering his arms. Some were flexed with silver scars and his left eyebrow was sliced through with a cut that hadn't been there three years ago.

I slapped my smaller hand into his. "Get me the fuck out of here." I rasped, my throat feeling like I'd swallowed glass with a shot of tequila.

A smirk twitched at his lips, his hand closing around mine. "Good girl," he muttered in a low growl, hauling to my feet with one hand, picking up my duffle bag with the other and slinging it over his shoulder.

He moved without hesitation, his boots stomping a path over the ruined door and out into the cold air, hauling ass to the modified red and black motorbike that was parked beside Arthur's fancy cage.

The air was biting, filled with the sound of approaching sirens, my eyes sweeping the empty parking lot, freezing for a moment when I saw a familiar face waiting on another bike near the driveway.

My eyes widened slightly as I took in the bald head, the spider tattoo and the hardened gaze he threw our way.

The guy from the pitstop was watching us, a leather jacket covering his shirt with the Vipers insignia patch on his shoulder. He nodded once, turning his attention back to the road, looking out for us.

He was a club member.

Of course he fucking was. That had to have been how Logan even knew where I was.

Logan didn't even look at him, ignoring the surprised look on my face. He threw my bag onto the back of his bike, locking it down with a few swift clips of a strap, grabbing a helmet from the handlebars and turned to me.

His eyes lingered on my face for a moment as I looked back up at him, opening my mouth to fire off questions only to stop when his hands moved deftly.

He slid the helmet over my curls and tightened the buckle, his rough, warm skin grazing against mine as he secured it into place. The touch cut off my words, making my breath catch for a moment at how gently he was being compared to the violence he'd just been about to inflict.

"Get on, princess," he growled softly, throwing his leg over the front of the bike, turning the key and revving the engine in a smooth, practiced movement.

I hesitated for a fraction of a second. "Don't call me that," I muttered weakly, but still slid behind him in an all too familiar way, my arms wrapping around his solid waist.

He let out a rough snorted laugh. "I think I earned it," he shot back, kicking the stand up. "Hold on."

Before I could retort, he slammed the throttle, executing a standing spin, my hands reflexively tightening around his, my palms pressing flat against the muscles barely concealed by the tight black shirt and cut he wore.

My body pressed tightly against him, my thighs locking against his to keep myself seated as he peeled out of the carpark without a second delay. He smelled so familiar - like cigarettes, motor oil and a distinct musk that was uniquely him.

Logan threw a nod to the pitstop biker as we passed, turning onto the main road before he opened up the engine, putting as much distance between us and the approaching sirens as possible.

The modified engine roared with precision, the headlight cutting through the roads and darkness like a blade through butter towards the county line toward Dawn County - towards the clubhouse.

Logan leaned forward slightly as we gained speed, uncaring of his helmet-less head, the white streak in his dark hair swiping wildly in the burst of wind.

I glanced back, checking if Arthur was following, flinching when two distinct noises exploded.

Bang. Bang.

My heart stopped, seeing the flash from a firearm illuminated the silhouette of the leather and bald head beside Arthur's car.

My head stopped for a moment. "Fuck...did he just.."

"Spider just blew out the square's tires," Logan barked over the roar of the engine and the wind, cutting me off before I could finish.

A second growling engine ignited into the air, the other bike closing distance and Spider caught up without issue.

I swallowed hard. "T-The motel clerk..."

Logan cut me off again. "Hayley knows to keep her mouth shut," he said smoothly.

"Hayley?" I squeaked out, suspicion and confusion lacking my tone. "H-How many fucking people do you know in this area?"

Logan let out a sharp laugh. "Enough," he answered, glancing at Spider as he caught up beside us. They shared a glance, Spider saying something that was lost to the blur of the wind but Logan seemed to hear him perfectly.

"We'll split up at the crossroad," he rumbled, reaching up to adjust a Bluetooth earpiece. "I'll get the princess back to the clubhouse, you deal with our contact at the Dawn County PD. Have him wipe any camera footage they might have."

Spider nodded, his eyes flicking to me for a moment, a slight softening of worry in his expression I didn't understand.

Logan tensed, catching the glance. "I got her." He growled, defensive and raw. "She's safe with me," he added, glancing back at me, an arrogant smirk cutting across his lips though his voice lowered, stripped of aggression. "Aren't you, princess?"

I scowled beneath the helmet, glaring at him with a pissed pout. "Just be glad I'm not counting this as kidnapping, asshole." It didn't stop my hands gripping his waist a bit tighter, knowing he was the safest option right now.

Logan let out another laugh, Spider's expression softening as he shook his head and gunned his bike. "Definitely Prez's kid," Spider shouted loudly enough I could hear him over the engines, giving a two finger salute to Logan. "See you at the clubhouse, Reaper! Char - good to have you back!"

    - Arthur - The holding cell smelled of floor cleaner, stale sweat, and the distinct, humiliating musk of people who didn’t own stock in anything traded on the NYSE. I sat on the edge of the metal bench, posture straight, shoulders squared under bespoke charcoal wool that now felt less like armor and more like a costume in a bad play. My cufflinks were gone—confiscated during booking alongside my Patek Philippe watch, my phone, my gold-plated money clip, and the dignity of a man who commanded a half-billion-dollar market capitalization before the bell rang at nine-thirty. Incompetent cretins. The phrase wasn't a thought; it was a rhythmic pulse behind my temples. The desk sergeant—a slab of meat with a cheap mustache and fingernails bitten to the quick—had looked at my license as if it belonged to a trespasser trying to pawn a stolen stereo. Arthur Verlaine. Verlaine Corp. Names meant nothing in the Dawn County precinct basement. Power here wasn't measured in diluted share optio

    - Logan -The neon sign of the Siren’s Gaze flickered against the damp, miserable evening air, casting a sickly pink glow over the cracked asphalt of the strip club's parking lot.I killed the engine of my bike, letting the Harley's heavy thrum die down into a quiet ticking as it cooled, setting my red and black helmet on the handles. Pulling the folded envelope out of my jacket pocket, I scanned the address one last time. I knew Leo Tannis - he was a piece of shit, owner of a strip club and had hired us to help him move product and act as protection when he made shitty deals. Twelve hours late on a protection payment wasn't just bad business; it was an invitation to remind the local slime why the Vipers controlled this territory. I adjusted my cut, flexing my bandaged left hand to check the stitching still held, and walked across the near-empty carpack. Gravel crunched under my boots, my eyes scanning the area quickly like a predator sweeping its hunting ground. I didn't both

    - Charlotte -The heavy scent of roasted coffee beans, whiskey and faint cigar smoke hit my senses as Nellie guided me through the swinging double doors toward the club’s private lounge. It was a stark contrast to the sterile, monochromatic white and grey minimalism of Arthur’s penthouse. Here, the walls were dark timber paneling adorned with vintage Vipers memorabilia, old black-and-white charter photos, and a massive stone fireplace that wasn't even lit yet. A plush, worn leather sofa and mismatched armchairs sat in the center, currently occupied by three women who commanded the space just as fiercely as the men commanded the compound."Look what the cat dragged back in," Nellie announced, a fond, bright grin lighting up her face as she nudged me forward. All three pairs of eyes snapped up to me.There was Sarah, the club’s treasurer, Bones’ fierce right-hand and his younger sister, whose sharp bob and piercing dark eyes missed nothing. Beside her sat Maeve, a younger woman with a c

    - Logan - The heavy oak conference doors clicked shut as Nellie gently steered Charlotte out by the elbow, taking her down toward the main bar to spend some time with some of the club's Old Ladies and members before the legal storm officially hit. I watched the door latch closed, my chest still burning with the residual heat of seeing that video replay on the monitor. "She's holding it together better than most would," Gwen Cassidy noted, sliding her sleek silver laptop back into its leather case with a crisp snap. She adjusted her glasses, looking across the mahogany table at Prez and Bones before her sharp, analytical eyes landed on me. "Which means the delayed crash is going to hit her like a freight train if we don't keep her occupied and protected." "She's a Kane," Prez rumbled, his voice low and firm, though his jaw twitched with the same violent restraint I was fighting. "She's tougher than she looks. But you're right—we make sure she doesn't have a second to look bac

Nellie led me back to the room, her arm wrapped gently around my shoulders as we stepped inside the quiet room. "I pulled out some of your old gear," she said softly, gesturing to the stack of clothes folded on the edge of the bed. "Hopefully they still fit." I stepped forward, my hand brushing against the soft fabric of a worn navy green henley and faded jeans, a pair of old boots and a black bra and panty set that looked brand new. I cast a glance back at her, raising a questioning brow. She smirked, leaning against the closed door. "I assumed you didn't have any, so I asked Margie, the bartender I have on weekends, drop some stuff off. Girl's a lingerie model and gets given a heap of free shit all the time, and she's about your size, so they should work." She explained. A small, grateful smile pulled at my lips, my chest tightening a little at the helpfulness of a woman I'd never met. "I'll have to thank her when I meet her," I said quietly, picking up the pile and heading fo

Logan had retreated to the corner island, eating quietly while he watched Nellie and I move around in a rhythm born from years of cooking and caring together. Our shoulders brushed as I made sure the burritos stayed warm and Nellie cleaned up after me despite my protest. "You cooked, I clean," she said stubbornly, shoving a burrito and cup of coffee into my hands when I still tried to help, slapping me gently on the side of the leg with a laugh. "Fuck off, Char-Char. Go sit down next to Logan and make sure he doesn't choke on his food," she ordered. I dodged her next swipe, "Fine! I'm going, I'm going!" I chuckled, sliding into the seat next to Logan who was hiding his smirk behind his second burrito. "She's a hard-ass," he teased quietly to me. "She doesn't let anyone cook in her kitchen." Nellie snorted. "Correction - I don't let you cook in my kitchen, Reap," she shot over her shoulder as she washed dishes by hand. "You burn water." "Hey, that's a lie. I can cook!"
