CHAPTER 6:

 THE ACCUSATION

The next morning, Lyra returned to the gardens with her gift. The twins were already there, playing with wooden toys in their special clearing. They lit up when they saw her.

"You came again!" Luna ran to hug her. "I told Aiden you would!"

"I promised, didn't I?" Lyra knelt to their level. "And I brought you something. Special juice, made from an old recipe."

She pulled out the two containers. The twins' eyes widened with delight.

"Can we drink it now?" Aiden asked eagerly.

"Of course." Lyra handed them each a container, her heart warm at their enthusiasm.

The twins drank deeply, making satisfied sounds. They thanked her politely, the way they'd clearly been taught. Such good children. Such perfect, beautiful children.

They played together for another hour. The twins showed her how to build a tower from their blocks. Lyra told them another story, this one about a brave princess and her loyal brother who saved their kingdom together. The twins listened with shining eyes, not knowing she was telling them a story about them, about who they could become.

"I wish you could stay with us all day," Luna said wistfully, leaning against Lyra's side.

"Me too, sweet one," Lyra whispered, pressing a kiss to her daughter's soft hair. "Me too."

Movement in the distance caught her attention. A pack member stood near the garden entrance, watching them. The woman met Lyra's eyes for a moment, then turned and walked away quickly.

Unease prickled down Lyra's spine, but she pushed it away. She was doing nothing wrong. Just spending time with children who happened to be her own.

When Sera arrived to collect the twins for their lessons, her face was a careful mask of pleasantness. But her eyes promised retribution.

That night, Lyra was reading in her small room when she heard the screams.

They echoed through the pack house, high and terrified. A mother's screams. Sera's screams.

Lyra ran toward the sound, her heart pounding. She found chaos outside the medical wing. Pack members crowded the hallway. Sera was sobbing hysterically. Helena looked grave. And Marcus's face was white with shock.

"What happened?" Lyra pushed through the crowd. "What's wrong?"

No one answered her. They parted to let her through, their faces cold with accusation.

Dr. Reed emerged from the medical room, his expression grim. "They're stable for now. But it was close. Very close."

"Who's stable?" Lyra demanded, though dread was already filling her chest. "What's going on?"

"The twins," Helena said coldly. "They've been poisoned. Wolfsbane. They're fighting for their lives right now."

The world tilted. Lyra grabbed the wall for support. "What? No. That's not possible. They were fine a few hours ago. I was just with them"

"We know," Marcus said, his voice deadly quiet. "You were the last person to see them before they got sick. You gave them something to drink."

"Just juice. I made them juice from berries and honey. That's all, I swear"

"Show me this juice," Dr. Reed demanded.

With shaking hands, Lyra led them to her room. The containers she'd used to carry the juice sat on her small table, still sticky with residue. Dr. Reed examined them carefully, then pulled out a testing kit.

The entire pack watched in silence as he ran the tests. When he looked up, his face was grave.

"Wolfsbane," he confirmed. "Mixed into the juice. Enough to kill a grown wolf. The twins survived only because their bodies are young and fought hard, and because we caught it quickly."

"No," Lyra whispered. "No, I didn't... I would never..."

"Your fingerprints are all over these containers," Dr. Reed continued. "And witnesses saw you give the twins drinks in the garden. This morning, correct?"

Lyra's mind raced. Yes, she'd given them juice. But there had been no wolfsbane in it. She would never poison her own children. She would die before harming them.

But who else had access to her room? Who else could have tampered with the juice?

The answer came with horrible clarity. Sera. Sera had threatened her yesterday. Sera had said she would destroy Lyra if she tried to take the children.

Sera had poisoned her best friend's children just to frame Lyra.

"It wasn't me," Lyra said desperately. "Someone tampered with the juice after I made it. Someone planted the wolfsbane to make it look like I did this. You have to believe me"

"Why would anyone frame you?" Marcus's voice was ice. "You're the one who has a motive. You're jealous that Sera raised your children. You wanted revenge."

"I wanted to know my children! I would never hurt them!"

"You hurt them by leaving," Sera sobbed from where she sat against the wall. Her face was blotchy with tears. Her hands shook. "You abandoned them as babies. You came back wanting to take them from the only mother they've ever known. And when they didn't instantly love you, when they still called me mama, you couldn't handle it. So you poisoned them."

"That's not true!" Lyra turned to the gathered pack members. Surely someone would believe her. Surely someone knew her well enough to know she couldn't do this. "I love my children more than anything in this world. I spent five years dreaming of coming home to them. I would die before I hurt them!"

"Then explain the wolfsbane in juice you made with your own hands," Helena said quietly. "Explain why you were the last person to see them before they collapsed. Explain why a witness saw you giving them drinks in the garden."

Lyra opened her mouth but no words came out. Because she couldn't explain it. Not in a way they would believe. The truth was too convenient for them to ignore, she looked guilty. The evidence was damning. And they wanted to believe the worst of her.

"Elder Theron," Marcus called. "We need a judgment council. Immediately."

The old man appeared, his weathered face grave with disappointment. When he looked at Lyra, she saw no mercy in his eyes. Only sadness and condemnation.

"Attempted murder of pack pups," he said heavily. "One of our most serious crimes. The council will convene within the hour."

"Please," Lyra begged, tears streaming down her face. "Please, just let me see them. Let me see my babies. Let me tell them I didn't do this. I can never do this. Never!!! Would I hurt my children."

"You've done enough," Sera said, her voice breaking. "You've poisoned your own children. You don't deserve to breathe the same air as them."

Guards grabbed Lyra's arms. She struggled, trying to reach the medical room where her children lay fighting for their lives because of poison someone else had put in her juice.

"Please!" she screamed as they dragged her away. "Please, my babies! I didn't hurt them! I love them! Please let me see them!"

But no one listened. No one cared. They'd already decided she was guilty.

They locked her in a holding cell to await judgment. Lyra collapsed against the wall, sobbing so hard she thought her chest would crack open.

Her children were dying. Her babies were fighting for their lives. And everyone thought she'd done it.

The cruelest part was knowing they were so close just down the hall, and she couldn't reach them. Couldn't hold them. Couldn't tell them she was sorry, that she loved them, that she would never, ever hurt them.

Someone had poisoned her children and framed her for it. Someone had turned her attempt to build a relationship with her babies into attempted murder.

And Lyra knew exactly who.

Sera had done this. Sera had poisoned the children she'd raised to keep Lyra from reclaiming them. She'd been willing to risk their lives to destroy Lyra completely.

What kind of monster did that? What kind of person poisoned innocent children?

But as Lyra sat in that cell, she realized something. The pack would never believe her. They would never accept that sweet, gentle Sera could do something so horrible. They'd already decided Lyra was the monster.

She was going to be convicted. Sentenced. Possibly executed.

And her children would grow up believing their real mother had tried to kill them.

The injustice of it burned hotter than any pain Lyra had ever felt. Hotter than the bond severing. Hotter than betrayal. These were her children. Her babies. And she was losing them in the worst possible way.

A sound at the cell door made her look up. A guard slid a tray of food through the slot, not meeting her eyes. Like she was already dead to them.

Lyra ignored the food. She couldn't eat. Couldn't do anything except wait for judgment she knew would be brutal.

Wait and pray that somehow, someway, her children would survive what Sera had done to them.

CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHTTHE FIRE Raven and Lyra stepped into the clearing, their breathing synchronized as they began their training session. The sun beat down on them, casting drowsy shadows on the forest floor. They moved together in sync, their feet crunching the dried leaves on the ground. Lyra, with her dark hair tied back, focused on her opponent. Raven was quick, her movements fluid and unpredictable. But Lyra was determined to best her.Just as Lyra landed a strike, a loud crash echoed through the forest, making them freeze. The sound was like thunder, but it didn't sound like thunder. It was sharper, more metallic. " What was that?" Lyra asked, her eyes wide.Raven's grip on her sword tightened. "I don't know, but let's check it out."“ Could it be the… the lone wolves hanging around?!” “ We won’t find out until we find out. And it’s best we find out whatever that is.” Raven said. “ Alright then, let’s go.” Lyra said. They moved cautiously towards the source of the noise,

He took two long strides and got to where they stood, their head slightly bowed, a sign of respect.“ Your lordship.” They chorused. “ And where is the young man who claimed to have smelt Tyrone in the cave?” Sebastian asked, paying no attention to their greeting.“ I am right here, your lordship.” The young man said, taking a step forward.“ And what is your name again?”“ Holman, your lordship.”“ You better pray that it wasn’t an error you made as you might incur my wrath upon you.”The young man maintained a straight face, trying to hide his fear. “ Yes, your lordship.” He responded.“ Now, take us to the exact spot.” Sebastian turned to face Ashel. “ And where is my other horse, Devils eyes?”“ In the stall, your lordship.” Ashel responded.“ Now I want you all to be at alert while we are in the woods. CHAPTER TWENTY SIX ARROWS AND BOWS It was morning already. The sun outside was slowly rising. The air was crisp and cool, filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers and the chirping of birds. Dew still glimmered on the grass, and the shadows were long and dark, stretching out like nature's own fingers. The morning mist swirled gently, adding a mystical touch to the scene. Lyra was lost in the depths of slumber, her body curled up in a tight ball as she clenched her shirt neatly folded around her head as a pillow. The night had been long, and the exhaustion had finally caught up with her. Raven walked into the tent, wiping the water dripping from her hair. She watched Lyra sleeping for a couple of seconds before deciding to wake her up.Lyra didn't stir even as a wet, soggy shirt was thrown at her, hitting her squarely on the face." Wake up, Lyra! We've got training to do!" Raven said in a loud voice was jolting Lyra from her sleep. She sat up with a start, the wet shirt falli

CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE LADY GWEN Sebastian pulled the curtains wide open as he moved on to the special space his weapons were neatly stacked on the wall. He ran his hands over some of the blades, his eyes glinting with pride as he remembered every story behind how he got each special blade. Every blade had his tears, his sweat and determination boldly written over them.He picked one of the swords and slowly unsheath it. The light coming in from the opened windows shone brightly into the room, the ray of light shining brightly on the tip of the sword. He smiled bitterly, his eyes fixated on the blades. He couldn’t even remember when last he had to leave the territory to fight a war. He had trained able bodied men to take control and deal with any arising issue regarding the territories. There was a soft knock on the door just as the door pushed open. His young mistress, Gwen, stepped into the room, her gown floating around her legs. The gown she was putting on had so many crystals on

CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR THE CLUE Lord Sebastian pacers around his inner chamber, his mind burdened by the mysterious disappearance of his younger brother, Tyrone. Tyrone has always been the extremely wild one amongst the two of them and his uncontrolled wildness had led to their banishment. But no matter how stubborn and reckless Tyrone has always been, he always reported back to him and has never stayed out of the pack for more than a day without permission from him. It was quite a wonder that Tyrone had decided on that faithful day that he would be the one to guard the Eastern territory. It was something he has never done. And now, he has stayed from the territory for more than a week. There was a loud knock on the door, jolting hun out of his thoughts. Two of Sebastian men, Talon and Ashewo came in. They bowed slightly in respect.“ Good day, your lordship.” “ I am yet to receive any positive news about Tyrone’s disappearance from the kingdom. Is he back yet? Have your men found a

CHAPTER TWENTY THREE APOLOGIES Lyra stepped out of the tent, her bare feet touching the cold wet grass. Raven was nowhere to be seen outside but she could see a fire at the other side burning slowly. She walked closer, squinting her eyes to see why I was there. Raven was sitting close to the fire, listening to the calmness of the night, the distant slap of water from the lake against the nearby rocks and the crickets chirping loudly. Lyra walked up to where she sat and sat down beside her. Raven didn’t say a word. She just continued staring straight at the fire as if she didn’t notice Lyra’s presence. Lyra cleared her throat and spoke up.“ I’m sorry.” There was no response. Raven just continued staring at the fire like like she didn’t hear what she had said. “ I went about the whole thing childishly. I judged you and didn’t properly ask question. And I did that out of fear. I’m sorry.” There was no response again. Lyra felt bad. She must have hurt Raven so bad with her accusat
