“You have no idea how excited I am,” I say with a huge grin. Jack laughs, “Miranda told me how much you like Harry Potter.” He then leans closer. “You’re cute when you’re all excited,” he whispers in my ear. I blush at his comment. The lights begin to die down and the previews begin to play. The theatre is packed. Jack has the popcorn in his lap. I grab a handful and begin eating some when he unexpectedly takes my hand and slips his fingers between mine. I look at him from the corner of my eye and he is looking forward at the screen. I turn my attention back to the movie as it is beginning and I smile. About half way through the movie I shiver. I should’ve brought a jacket, theaters tend to be cold since they keep the air conditioners on. Jack must have noticed because let’s go of my hand and takes off his flannel to put around my shoulders. He then puts his arm around me to keep me warm. I eye him and can see his well defined muscles under his black tee shirt. He definitely works o
“What is it Thierry?” He looks at me with confusion and then looks back at the parchment thinking he missed something. “Dimitri, it’s my family. My family has the lycan gene.” “Does the book say how to tell who has the gene or if it’s all of you and your children?” He is really getting excited. This is the closest we’ve ever come to figuring out who has the gene. “I don’t know. I didn’t get that far in the book. Give me a second.” I grab the book and read further to see if it says anything else about it. “From what the book says, the person with the gene will not know they have it until an event to trigger it happens. I would say we all have the gene and it has to be triggered.“ “Does it say how to trigger it?” “It says in times of danger or great loss. Their life has to be seriously threatened and almost to the brink of death for the gene to trigger or someone close to that person dies and not just of old age, a horrific death. I don’t like either of those.” I don’t want any o
Derek The next morning my eyes feel like sandpaper with the little sleep I got. I stayed up way too late studying up on the dragons. I have a feeling dad is going to try and quiz me to ensure I actually read the book. My alarm goes off at six in the morning. I groan, wanting to throw the damn thing to shut it up. I drag myself out of bed and take a cold shower to help wake me up. After showering and getting dressed I head downstairs to the kitchen to grab some breakfast before having to meet dad in the office. Miss Kat, our cook, always makes the best food. She already has my usual out french toast, eggs over easy and a mountain of crispy bacon. My stomach is growling, demanding food. “Thanks Miss Kat. As usual you’re the best,” I tell her. “No problem dear,” she says with a smile. Miss Kat is like a grandmother to everyone at the estate and treats everyone as if they are her grandchildren. She makes sure no one misses a meal and everyone takes their breaks. After eating my food I
My head is spinning from all the information dad has just thrown at us and he hasn’t even touch on any of the battles yet. Shifters tend to be quite loyal so why did so many abandon their families? It makes no sense. I wonder if they are being tricked by a lie. Or they are greedy and somehow someone discovered how to extend their life when killing a silver dragon. I have so many ideas and questions running through my head. I snap my attention back to dad’s lesson, I need to keep up. “The second silver dragon was killed three months after the first along with four other dragons. Not only were silver dragons coming up dead but now other dragons were dying. We didn’t know if it was because they were present when the silver dragon was attacked or because of a whole different reason. There were originally ten silver dragons alive at the time and now we had eight. Fairy’s were concerned but did not get involved. They are not warriors and they were using their magic to protect the creatures
“When the time comes to tell Davina about the magical world how are you suppose to break that kind of news to her. Say ‘hey guess what you’re a dragon and your biological parents and brother were murdered oh and you’re the last of your kind and we all rely on your survival’.” My sarcasm and anger are coming out but I don’t like that Davina is in the dark and there is no nice way of breaking that kind of news to someone. “Trust me Derek. We know this is life changing news and we don’t know how she will react to it. The best we can do is be there for her because she will either transform into a dragon and freak out or we can tell her first before she transforms. Either way it will be a shock for her and there is nothing we can do about that except be there for her. Her powers are driven by emotion. If she loses control she can accidentally kill someone. She’ll need help to stay calm. You are right it is going to a huge burden on her knowing a lot of people rely on her survival. It is o
I lock up and head home around eight. As I get to the Jeep I have this weird feeling someone is watching me and I look down the ally way. I don’t see anything but the hair on my neck is standing up. I quickly get in the Jeep and lock the doors. I turn on the KC lights and point them down the ally. Still nothing. I let it go and head home. On the drive home I swear the car behind me is following me until it turns down a street not far from home. I am definitely getting paranoid. When I get home I see my parents have settled on the couch to watch a movie, The Notebook for the thousandth time. I giggle. I say a quick goodnight to my parents and decide to head upstairs to read a book. I get to my room, put my bag by my desk and go to my closet to retrieve my pajamas. I do my nightly routine. I brush my teeth, floss and wash my face. I climb into bed and pull out The Witcher book I have been reading. I must have fallen asleep quickly as I start having a weird dream about dragons. There a
Derek It is agony waiting for any sort of word on what is happening at the Ortiz residence. I keep pacing in my room, checking my phone every few seconds. “Dude stop pacing. We will know something when we know something,” says Owen. I know he is just as worried as I am. His mother is one of the warriors that was called to the house. I stop pacing and sit on my bed. It is almost eleven and still no word. “I am about to march myself over there damn it. I don’t care how mad dad gets at me,” I say with frustration. I then hear the front door swing open and people are yelling. “The warriors are back,” Keila says as she barges into my room. I run downstairs to see what has happened. Dr. Ase is yelling out orders as wolves are being carried to one of the larger rooms in the house. There are several injured wolves. They would heal in time but some appear to need stitches while they heal. There are several warlocks and witches also injured and assisting Dr. Ase healing the others. I look
“So where is Davina,” I ask Shaun. He hangs his head. “I’m sorry we failed. They escaped by teleporting. The shifters that didn’t make it to a warlock or witch are being hunted as we speak, but they took her. She‘s gone,” he says. Gabriel Ortiz slams his fist on the table in frustration. “Easy Gabriel” says Dimitri, the high warlock. “We will find her.” “It is just as much my fault she is gone. I couldn’t protect her and I was there. I should have been able to protect her.” “You were outnumbered and knocked unconscious Gabriel. Don’t blame yourself. You are strong but even you have your limits. You are lucky they didn’t kill you,” Dimitri tries reassuring Gabriel. “How are we going to find her,” I ask. “Gabriel will be able to track the seal that is on her. Since he is blood related to Daniel he will be able to find her easier than another warlock. Those who cast the seal have a stronger connection,” replies Dimitri. He does’t finish the sentence. We all know what he means. Onl
