He stood up and began to get ready to walk out. “Where are you going next?” he asked as he looked down at her. She already felt small, but when he stood up, he dwarfed her. She had to crane her neck backward to see his face.

Over the summer, they attended the meetings, with her father dropping her off and Maverick bringing her back to the farm later in the evening. The next day was often the worst for her because she would still get up before the sunrise to do the chores she had been assigned. The fact she was different didn’t get her any special treatment on the farm. She was okay with that. The drive to the farm wasn’t all that long. Though he knew this was not probably the smartest thing to do, he couldn’t argue with her. He honestly didn’t know why he voluntarily took this child as his responsibility, but he had as it seemed that no one else seemed to care what happened to her, including her family. The night pressed on, and Mav stayed by her side. She was nothing but smiles the entire night. A simple birthday cake seemed more than she had ever had before. She was as bright as the moon itself.
