Dawn walked into the chemistry building to find the teacher there waiting for her. “Dawn Newberry, I presume?”
“Yes, sir.” She said as she looked up to him with her bright blue eyes.
“I see it now.” He said with a soft smile. “The admissions board contacted me and some of the others to discuss you. We have a few minutes before class begins, so I would like to talk with you myself before allowing you into the classroom.”
“Okay,” Dawn said as she looked at the man whom she could easily read as one of those professors who took safety seriously and was proud of what he had achieved in his life. She understood these people. They had worked to build a good structure in their classrooms. She could easily distract from that.

He stood up and began to get ready to walk out. “Where are you going next?” he asked as he looked down at her. She already felt small, but when he stood up, he dwarfed her. The pair were seen together through the days from fall to spring. They had three classes together, and those were the ones he wasn’t having trouble in. She spent most of her free time tutoring him on the other three. Because of her, he was passing now, and they laughed about it. They talked almost every day as well. Over the summer, they attended the meetings, with her father dropping her off and Maverick bringing her back to the farm later in the evening. The next day was often the worst for her because she would still get up before the sunrise to do the chores she had been assigned. The fact she was different didn’t get her any special treatment on the farm. She was okay with that. Her parent's divorce was being dragged out in the court system even though all the kids had said who they wanted to live with already, and their parents were not contesting that at all.Maverick knew that she had told the courts she didn’t care who she had to live with. The drive to the farm wasn’t all that long. Though he knew this was not probably the smartest thing to do, he couldn’t argue with her. He honestly didn’t know why he voluntarily took this child as his responsibility, but he had as it seemed that no one else seemed to care what happened to her, including her family. “Excuse me?” Maverick said in a deep growl, and the shadow came to a halt. They looked around and saw him. “I do not believe that she needs any company.”The person bolted out of the hallway and then out one of the doors. The night pressed on, and Mav stayed by her side. She was nothing but smiles the entire night. A simple birthday cake seemed more than she had ever had before. She was as bright as the moon itself.
