Ashley

The man who had brought me disappeared into another room the moment the handed me over to his Beta. It wasn't like I had much to say, but a part of me had gotten used to his presence, and so his sudden absence felt . . . odd.

The Lycan Tribe was just as we had been told, with a few exceptions here and there. But the main things remained evident. The towering structures that exuded wealth, the mighty guards and warriors that I caught glimpses of as we crossed the gates leading to the main holding.

They had been stiff and absolute in their submission to their Lycan King, which I expected, but he didn't even need to look at anyone before they knew not to stand in his path.

They all feared him. But I could just feel that there was more to him than he let on. For one, how had his powers come about? I had heard about the Lycans’ strength that was so great that normal werewolves couldn't compete. Their powerful empire that put other packs to shame. All of that, but seeing it in pers

Ashley I had to escape, but the odds of me being able to do that were very, very slim. For one, I was in a hole in the ground with the only exit a small squre window overhead.About a day had passed, and I could tell from the fresh rays of light sinking in from above once again. The warmth of the light was distant, but it filled me for a little with hope. As long as I still lived, I wasn't going to give up on finding a way out. The only thing that mattered to me at that moment was to break out and go to Zane, who must have been suffering from pains already.“Rise and shine, sleeping beauty.” James came to the little window and crouched, staring down at me like he had the day before. “How are you feeling today?”The smile on his face sickened me to my stomach. How could someone look so happy to be perpetrating evil? “Today is a wonderful day indeed, don't you think?” He tapped his fingers against the iron of the bars, creating little clanging noises. I will finally be rid of the tho

ZaneThe pounding in my head brought me to a new level of pain I hadn't experienced before. Even speaking was a struggle because the aches went from my temples and into my eyeballs. After I finished dressing up, a little disappointed at Ashley's absence, I headed for my study, where Bryce and I were supposed to meet. I looked around my bedside desk for the tincture that Ashley had been making for me since she came, and found a bottle lying on its side on the floor. I picked it up and opened it, planning to take an extra sip out of the prescribed dosage. “Damn it,” I hissed, shaking the bottle and realizing that it held nothing inside. That was the last bottle I had. I had been using more and more of the tinctures as time went on, to the point where a bottle barely lasted me two days. Another wave of pain shot through me, nearly bringing me to my knees, but I gritted my teeth and pressed on. Going to see Bryce was more important.I managed to make my way to the study, albeit half-bl

JaceEverything was falling into place. I had made contact with the family in the Lycan Tribe, and I had gotten good news about Ashley. Soon, I'd be able to see her again, and would reclaim what was always meant to be mine.“What are you saying, Jace?” Carina's sobs broke me out of my thoughts. Her eyes were already bloodshot and puffy, and I wondered why it was so easy for her to fall apart at the slightest provocation. Such weakness wasn't fit to be a Luna. Wasn't fit for anything.“I'm saying that this sham has to come to an end, Carina. You know the truth. So stop pretending.”Her mouth gaped open disgracefully amd released another wail. I was certain that she was merely trying to make as much noise as she could at that point. She stumbled toward me and took fistfuls of my shirt in her small hands. “Why are you doing this to me, Jace? After everything . . . After I've shown you just how much I love you. You want to throw me aside like this?”I grabbed her wrists and detached her

AshleyI was younger, walking past the halls of the pack house, eager to see the Luna. She had given me an assignment the day before, and I was excited to show her what I had already done. She always told me that I was talented, but I never really believed it until I was able to successfully formulate a tonic that made silver less toxic to werewolves. When I got to the lab, I placed my hand on the doorknob, and twisted it to open the door, but as I started to do so, voices spilled out from the room. They sounded hurried, and nervous. Like they were discussing something I shouldn't have been hearing.“The relic is gone, Elder Joseph! Without it, we lose the leverage we have against the Lycan Tribe!” The Luna's strong voice was as clear as day. I could never mistake it for another's. “I know, my Luna, but what can we do? You husband was the last person to come in contact with him. And he's been dead for a very long time. How on earth are we going to find the relic now?”“You're asking

Ashley By the time I woke up, it was barely sunrise. I stretched languidly, relishing the feel of my body and wanting nothing more than to remain in bed beside Zane. But I had a plan, and nothing was going to deter me from accomplishing it. I slipped out of the bed quietly, trying to not wake him, and put on my clothes as quickly as possible. When only my shoes were left, I simply picked them up and tiptoed to the door, giving Zane's sleeping form one last look on the bed before forcing myself to leave. He had said that he usually didn't have peaceful nights because of his powers, and the curse. I hoped he had been able to get enough rest. I didn't go to the Grove, or even back to the little room at the outer quarters I lived in, but made my way to the library instead. I needed more information about the Ignis Relic, and where I had to begin my search for it. Over then night, Zane and I had discussed about the Hunt Gathering, and he agreed to restarting it, since he and Bryce alr

ZaneI was getting too used to having Ashley around. She had become a drug I'd grown addicted to. I was certain my body would break down if she just happened to leave my side. She looked up at me from under her lashes, stunned into silence. We had been seated for a while, in nothing but a calm quiet and the dying light. I brushed away the hair covering her beautiful face so that I could see her eyes clearly. “Why won't you say anything?” She sighed, looking unsure of herself. “I don't know what to say . . . This is all too much for me to take in.”“Are you talking about the curse, or us?” “Everything,” she said, falling back into the bed and fanning out her arms. “I still can't bring myself to believe that I'm the one the prophecy speaks about. I've never even considered the possibility because it just seemed so out of place.”“But it's not a far-fetched idea.” I turned my body so that I faced her completely on the bed. “You're wise. You're strong. And somehow . . . you've managed

Jace“We were all fooled by Elder Joseph,” I said. This was in my study, where I sat addressing Lucas and Elder Garett. “And now, the old retard has started pretending like he had no hand in this mess we're in.”“If you wish it so, he will be punished, severely,” said Elder Garett calmly. She drummed her fingers on the wooden desk before her, with her silver ring glinting in the waning light of the evening sun. She looked quite young for her age, with only a slight streak of grey in her chin length hair. Her eyes were cat-like and sensual, snd often, I caught her looking at me in a certain way. Widowed, and obviously in need of a man. I only kept her around because her cunning and immense knowledge had brought our plans this far. “There's no need. He'll get what's coming for him soon enough. Right now, we need to direct our resources to the things that actually matter. Like regaining our lost resources and protecting ourselves from enemies.”Lucas nodded beside me, stroking his goa

Ashley Without hesitation, Zane took me to his quarters. He'd barely shut the door before pulling me flush against him and digging his face into my neck as though he hadn't seen me in years. “Zane . . .” Heat rushed up to my cheeks, and I desperately wanted to pull away. Not because I was ashamed or didn't want to be near him, but because being so close to him often sent a rush of emotions that still seemed so foreign to me.His lips went up my neck and to my cheek, where he placed a kiss. The act was so fluid, without a trace of uncertainty or hesitation. When he finally pulled away from my face, he still held on to me, as though our attachment was a source of strength for him. “I'm sorry you had to face that with Thea,” he said. “I don't know why she just won't give up.”“You're the king. What woman wouldn't do their best to have you?” I said without thinking, before blushing again. But I meant the words, so there was no way I was taking them back. His expressive mouth curled slig

Ashley After washing my hands, I took a seat so that I could effectively listen to what Arthur had to say. Clara did same, although she decided to stay by the door of the room, crossing her strong arms over he chest, face severe.“What's the Ignis Relic? And how did the curse come about?” I started.“No one really knows how the Ignis Relic came about, but there's an old story about how it was the weapon the Moon Goddess used to cut down the trees she used to create our kind. Others say that it belonged to a witch—who cursed the Leventis ancestor that stole it years ago to win the Old War against the humans.”“This artifact. Does anyone know what it looks like?” I asked. At least knowing what it looked like would definitely have been useful. The story didn't really matter, just how to get my hands on that artifact and save Zane's life.Arthur looked at me in a strange way, as though he was assessing something about me that he hadn't noticed before. “Going after the artifact would esse
