Jace

The dimly lit halls of our dungeon didn't stir up any nostalgia within me. Instead, it only made me wrinkle my nose from how musty it smelled.

I told the guard to wait at the entrance once we got there, and then I walked the rest of the way to the cell where the visitor was being kept.

There was only one Lycan I considered crazy enough to walk into our territory without fear. It had to be that Gamma Lycan that had helped us gain entry into their territory undetected.

And just as I'd anticipated, as I stepped to the door of the barred cell, I saw him inside, seated in a chair while Bryce ruthlessly drilled him for answers.

I only had to wait for a few seconds for my presence to be announced. Bryce turned around and went stiff, while James’ sadistic smile only got wider.

I let myself into the cell, slowly walking up to both of them.

“Jace, I—” Bryce started to explain, but I raised a hand to cut him off. I didn't need him to start blabbering away. Lucas had always been someone

Ashley By the time the cell descended into an unbearable type of cold, I knew the entire day was gone already, and no matter how much I begged or tried to change things, I just had to accept it like that. The rot had already been spreading at a pace that defied logic and even mere understanding. Forests were falling overnight, rivers turning black with sludge, crops withering before sunrise. Clara had said two days, but deep down we both knew that was an even generous proposal that was likely to remain as a dream in one's head rather than an actual event happening. Now, there was one day left. One day to retrieve the cursed necklace and return to the Lycan Tribe before the Rot destroyed everything in its path, turning even the Lycan Tribe into a thing of the past. And I was still locked in a goddamned cell.My fingers trembled as I rubbed at my wrists, raw from the hard cuffs. The stone walls felt like they were pressing in tighter, each breath harder to draw. The silence wasn’t pe

  • The Stand-In Luna   •Chapter 127•

AshleyIt was impossible to tell how much time had passed since the point of my capture. The whole dungeon was so dark, that even the times when the doors had been opened, there was no visible light source from the outside. The cell was windowless, the air staler than week-old bread. My wrists were chafed raw from the cuffs, and my back ached from the combination of the stone floor and trying to keep my back upright. I had shifted positions more times than I could count, but nothing helped. My body was restless. A heat stirred within me, the hints of a power long forgotten trying to crawl up to the surface, and just waiting to be unleashed. But it wasn't time yet.And timing was everything in this situation.A clang echoed outside the dungeon door, heavy boots approaching with slow, deliberate step to announce his presence. I knew who it was even before I saw him, and took a deep breath to ease my body of all the evident strain and wear eating deep into me. If he saw just how uncomfo

Ashley I’d been here before. Not in chains, but in a forced ceremony. Memories flashed through my mind of how Jace had humiliated me right here, standing over me like a tyrant and demanding me to accept the fact that he was going to mark me just to solidify my presence as a decoy for Carina.Carina… How had things even gone for her? Because if I was truly the one the prophecies spoke about, then there was no longer anything remarkable about her. In fact, she would have now been considered less than a werewolf. No one would care who she was anymore, because in this world we were all judged by our potential. And it seemed even the Lycans were more merciful in how they treated those with less capabilities than even werewolves. The Moonlit Silver Pack’s central compound hadn’t changed much since the last time I walked through it. It didn't feel much different because even back then, I was still a prisoner, I just didn't know it back then—or I simply just lied to myself to numb the pai

Ashley “The rot has spread even further. Scouts estimate that in less than a few days, it will reach our borders. The consequences are catastrophic in the neighbouring villages. Crops are dying, even animals are falling sick.” Clara's heavy news was punctuated by her rapid pacing in front of us. I had never seen her so worried. Her eyes were bloodshot, and her hair fell down her shoulders in slightly messy waves. She didn't even look like she had gotten a second of good sleep in a while. Zane told me that she and her team of scouts had been working on tracking the spread of the rot, but I didn't know just how deep their work went.“Give me a more detailed estimate,” Zane said, leaning forward in his chair with a serious look on his face. His blue eyes were slightly brighter from the lighting filtering into his study, casting a serious set of shadows along his cheekbones and underneath his neck. “Three days maximum,” she said, still pacing. “And that's if by some miracle it doesn't

JaceIt was all coming together, just like I planned. Lucas had retrieved the necklace, and now we had control of that cursed spirit, who was willing to do our bidding just to get it back. All thanks to the knowledge drawn from my mother's lost journal. How lucky I was to have come across it at such a time as this. It was almost like fate, that at my lowest, I found something to lift me higher than I had ever been before. And now, my goals were within reach.Soon, every Lycan would meet an inevitable end.A knock on my door brought me out of my early morning musings. I had been up for a long time, even before dawn started to break. It wasn't that I didn't want to sleep, it was just that the reality of things was almost so unbelievable that I spent those hours convincing myself that I hadn't gone mad. That my quest to avenge my father would finally meet success.I took a glance at the window, in no hurry to answer the door. Soft morning light had started to filter past the window cur

  • The Stand-In Luna   •Chapter 123•

Ashley I slicked my hair off my face, staring at my reflection in the pool of water swirling in the sink. Things are changing once again, morphing into a shape that I didn't think I could hold on to with my hands. I wasn't even sure id I could handle this new level of weight thrust upon me.But Zane was very right. Getting back the necklace was the only option we had, no matter how dangerous it was going to be. I slipped out of the bathroom, ignoring my reflection in the mirror as I passed it by. I didn't want to see the fear that I was certain my eyes held. After our discussion in the kitchens, it was clear that neither of us was going to get any more sleep. Not when we knew that Jace was on the verge of unleashing something incredibly dangerous upon us. We had to act fast, and that meant giving up on sleep. So we spent from that till early morning trading ideas on how we could somehow infiltrate Moonlit Silver and obtain the necklace. “What if we send in Bryce to go undercover?
