Chapter 2

Author: Stars
My comment received combative replies in an instant. Countless clueless netizens started verbally abusing me.

Very quickly, I received a call from Jordan.

He made no attempt to explain and only gave me a cold “Apologize.”

I thought I might have heard him wrong. “What am I apologizing for? What have I done wrong?”

Jordan let out a frustrated sigh. “Crystal used to be one of our army medics and helped many of my military friends. It’s only normal for everyone to dislike you when you came in later.

“Apologize to Crystal and tell her you didn’t mean to leave that comment. She’s crying very hard right now. She thinks she’s at fault for not defending you.”

His words were like icy daggers stabbing into my heart.

We fell into silence for a long moment before I spoke up.

“Let’s break up, Jordan. I’m not marrying you.”

Through the line, I could hear Crystal crying and Jordan consoling her.

I could not hear what they said exactly, but Jordan’s tone was very impatient when he next spoke.

“Enough. Stop causing a fuss and apologize to Crystal immediately. She’s crying so hard her makeup is ruined.

“Besides, I’m a senior military officer. I am powerful and respected. Countless women would kill for me to even look at them. Marrying me gives you wealth and prestige. How could you give that up?”

I was enraged, but those words made me want to laugh.

So he thought that I was only marrying him for his position and power.

In his eyes, I was apparently just a shallow and materialistic woman.

I hung up as tears streamed down my face, washing away the intricate makeup I had spent three hours working on.

I looked at the photo on the table. It was our first-ever photo together. I could not help but wonder how we had gotten to this point.

Seven years ago, a war had split my family apart.

During one icy winter night, I stumbled through a storm. I was shaking hard from the cold and nearly froze to death. However, the second before I fainted, I saw a figure walking toward me.

This person laid their hand on my feverish forehead and brought me back to camp.

During the journey, they put their coat over me. By the time we got back, they were covered in so much snow that they looked like a snowman. By contrast, I was untouched.

When I next opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was Jordan’s handsome face.

I knew that he was the person who had saved me.

After the war, we went back to our own lives. I thought that we would never meet each other again.

However, on what was a typical afternoon, I saw him on the street, drunk.

Crystal had gone overseas, and Jordan had lost his main pillar of support. As such, he could only wallow in his grief and drown himself in alcohol.

During this time, I was always by his side, comforting him and motivating him. However, I never had any intentions of getting romantically involved with him.

It was after I spent all this time with him that he suddenly confessed his feelings to me.

“Valerie, thank you for being there for me during the hardest time of my life. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have been able to weather it. Would you be my girlfriend?”

He had put a bullet on a chain and turned it into a necklace. Then, he put that necklace around my neck.

“This bullet once pierced my chest, barely millimeters from my heart. But I miraculously survived, and I’ve kept this bullet ever since. I think of it as a lucky charm. Now, I’m giving it to you.”

I was so touched by this gesture.

I thought that we really loved each other, but Crystal’s return turned all of these thoughts into dust.

He once left me in the rain to go and comfort Crystal, who was scared of thunder.

He once missed our anniversary to celebrate Crystal’s birthday.

When he found out that Crystal could no longer have children after getting injured, he openly shifted all of the love he showered on me to her.

I had been disappointed again and again, but I had chosen again and again to forgive him.

However, I was truly tired at this point.

  • The Stolen Wedding Dress   Chapter 10

(1st POV)The issue between Jordan and Crystal only grew bigger. However, some people were not focused on the gossip. Someone from a famous couture company stumbled upon the video and saw the dress Crystal wore. They asked around and found out that I had designed it myself. They offered me a senior designer job at their company. Thus, after resting at home for a time, I went back to being a designer. I could be myself again. Somehow, it turned out that I needed to thank Jordan and Crystal for what they had done. The whole thing had made me more famous, and the company became flooded with orders. I threw myself into this busy new life. Although my daily life was very hectic, I could do what I loved, so every day was filled with purpose. A month later, we launched my new line of designs. As I stood onstage explaining the concept of my designs, countless famous people in the design world watched me in awe. Suddenly, I saw a familiar figure in the crowd. I recognized J

  • The Stolen Wedding Dress   Chapter 9

Jordan had made a whole bunch of apologetic confessions, but all it did was make me impatient. “Alright, I got it. You can leave now. You had more than one bride, and you love more than one person. In that case, I’m sorry. I don’t want or need to be someone’s lover if I’m not the only one.”“It’s not like that, Valerie. I only love you…”I did not wait for him to finish speaking to go back inside. I closed the door without any hesitation. I thought that Jordan would give up after seeing how insistent I was. But he tried his old trick to convince me to get back with him again. He stayed outside, saying that he would not leave if I did not forgive him.It seemed like the universe was against him, because it then started to rain. The rain drenched him, but he still seemed adamant about staying. I looked down from the balcony, but I did not have the same feelings as I had the last time this happened. When he did this several years ago, it made me take him back. But it had als

  • The Stolen Wedding Dress   Chapter 8

When I turned on my phone the next day, it buzzed nonstop as the notifications flooded my screen. They were nearly all from Jordan. [Where are you, Valerie? The wedding will be starting soon, and no one can find you anywhere.][Can you stop having your tantrum at a time like this? If you don’t show up in half an hour, then we’re not getting married.]In the next half hour, there were no more messages from him. But after that time, he truly started to panic when I still did not appear. He started calling me nonstop. Another half hour later, he must have found the necklace and letter I had left at the villa. It was only then that he realized I was not throwing a tantrum and that I had truly left him. The next messages turned from threatening to pleading. [I’m sorry, Valerie. I was wrong. I’ll book you a huge ballroom now and decorate it exactly the way the other one was.][I’ll have the best seamstresses remake your wedding dress as quickly as possible.][I’m begging you. Pl

  • The Stolen Wedding Dress   Chapter 7

(1st POV)I returned to the home that had once been so familiar to me, memories floating up in my mind. I had gone through the most unforgettable time of my life here. Yet, when faced with this door, I found that I dared not take that step forward. If I returned at this point, would my parents still accept me as their daughter?I had made a mistake. Would they really forgive me?My hand shook on the door handle. Finally, I gathered up my courage and took a deep breath before pushing the door open. The interior was still decorated in a familiar way. Even the family photo hanging on the wall when I left was still in its original place. The glass of the frame was slightly yellowed, but it did not obscure my family’s happy smiles. The sound of cooking came from the kitchen. I walked over tentatively and called out, “Mom.”Mom stiffened violently, and the spatula she held clattered.Mom turned around in disbelief. The instant she saw me, tears started flowing down her face.

  • The Stolen Wedding Dress   Chapter 6

(3rd POV)Crystal’s face went white, but she retorted, dissatisfied, “Why can’t you understand that Valerie doesn’t really care about you if she can disappear on the day of your wedding?”When Crystal’s mother, Claire, heard this, she came forward and asked, “Didn’t you already marry Crystal? How can you marry another woman now?”Jordan was already overwhelmed at that moment. All he wanted was to locate Valerie. However, he had to patiently explain, “I was only giving Crystal a wedding experience. I never intended to marry her for real.”After Claire heard this, her expression instantly shattered. “I thought you had changed your mind and had decided to marry Crystal. I didn’t realize you were just playing around! Now everyone knows about it. How is Crystal supposed to show her face anywhere anymore?“But since you can’t find your real bride, why don’t you just go along with it? You and Crystal can be married for real. Besides, you love each other.”Crystal looked at Jordan ex

  • The Stolen Wedding Dress   Chapter 5

(3rd POV)After the phone call ended, Jordan suddenly felt a strange feeling rise in his chest. He had never anticipated that Valerie would agree so calmly, as if she were completely unaffected, and as if she really did not love Jordan at all. However, he soon dismissed that absurd thought. Jordan was a senior military officer, and that meant to him that no woman would not love him. He thought that Valerie was only playing along to get the upper hand. At that thought, he felt better again, and he got ready to drive home to pick up Valerie.Just as he stepped out of the ballroom, Crystal suddenly stood in his way.The pure white wedding dress had been ruined completely, stained by red wine and covered in cake.Even Jordan frowned when he saw it. He could not help but recall how tired Valerie had looked while designing this dress, her frame made frail under the light of the desk lamp.Crystal chuckled and wound her arm around Jordan’s. “Have you talked things out with Va
