DAMON’S POV

It was almost midnight when I finally sat on the edge of the bed, calculating the time difference between here and the city where Sadie lived.

Three hours behind. She’d probably just put Daven to sleep. The thought twisted something deep inside me — quiet, sharp, familiar.

My PI had reported earlier that Sadie had received the encrypted phone. The line was live, secure, ready. All I had to do was call.

Before doing so, I reached for my phone and opened the scanner app linked to Alex’s security program. The sweep ran soundlessly across the suite — green across the board. No bugs. No hidden signals.

Maybe I was paranoid. But paranoia was what kept people like me alive.

I had just typed in the encryption key when the door opened without warning.

Bella.

She stepped in like she owned the air I breathed, her silk bathrobe hanging loose. One flick of her wrist, and it slid off her shoulders — beneath it, nothing but black lace that barely qualified as clothing.

My expression didn

DAMON’S POV.Theo’s grip on Sadie trembled, and his voice cracked as he spat the words at her:“Kill you? I love you, Sadie. Isn’t everything I’ve done enough proof? Even Daven is closer to me than to him!”Before I could react— before Sadie could pull away— Theo crushed his mouth against hers.A forced kiss. Brutal. Desperate.Sadie cried out against it, trying to twist away— and I nearly lunged.Nearly.The only reason I didn’t tear him off her was because the barrel digging into her ribs would’ve gone off.One wrong move, and she’d bleed out before I could blink. My hand curled into a fist so tight I felt blood seep beneath my bandage.

DAMON’S POVSilas Aldo.I’d known for a long time he worked for my father. But I never expected this—that he’d been carrying a grudge sharp enough to carve all of us open. And I still didn’t know why Bella was even here, why she’d been dragged into this mess.None of it mattered. The only thing that mattered was getting Sadie and Daven out of this alive.Silas stepped forward, eyes burning with a hatred he’d nurtured for decades. “How about we hear it straight from the old bastard himself?”Before my father could protest, Silas ripped the gag from his mouth, jerking his head back with a violent twist. Randall choked in air like he’d been drowning.“Go on,” Silas sneered. “Explain to him how you ended up here&h

SADIE’S POVI could see that Damon didn’t recognize the number. And somehow, that alone told me everything would go wrong.Damon answered before I could say anything. For a moment, nothing came through—just a cold, empty silence that made my skin crawl. Then a distorted voice slid through the speaker.“Mr. Prince,” it drawled, metallic and warped. “So good of you to pick up.”Damon’s grip on the phone tightened. My stomach knotted.“Where is the boy?” he asked.A soft, twisted laugh crackled through the line—unnatural, mechanical. “Safe. Safer than you, at the moment.”I flinched before I could stop myself. The voice went on, smooth despite the distortion, every word deliberate and suffocating. “If you want him back, you will come to the woman’s house.”My breath hitched. A pause followed—heavy, intentional.“Both of you. Together. No guards. No entourage.”Damon’s jaw clenched. I felt the tension radiating off him.“Why the two of us?” he demanded.Another laugh spilled out—colder, a

  • The Stranger My Heart Belonged To   121. The Heir At Risk.

DAMON'S POV The moment my boots hit the gravel outside Marian’s house, the air felt… hollow.Like everything normal had been scraped out of the world and replaced with silence.Too much silence.I felt Sadie stiffen beside me. “Damon…?” her voice wavered, barely a whisper.I didn’t answer. My body was already shifting into the kind of focus that had kept me alive too many times to count. My men should’ve been here.I placed them here. And they were good—disciplined, invisible, thorough. But the driveway was empty. No guards. No patrols.Just two black SUVs—doors closed, engines cold—and a metallic scent whispering from the air.Blood.I approached the nearest vehicle, pulled the door open, and found the streaks along the seat. Not much. Not enough for a body. But enough to say something had gone very, very wrong.Sadie gasped softly behind me.“Where are they? Damon, where—”“Stay close to me,” I murmured, low, steady, even as anger curled inside my ribs like a blade. We stepped insi

SADIE’S POV Damon moved first. He cracked the door open just enough to see through the gap, his body a shield in front of mine. The hallway outside was littered with unconscious men—Randall’s guards—slumped against the walls, sprawled across the floor, groaning weakly in the fading edge of consciousness.Damon had already taken them down before even reaching me.The realization hit me like a wave. He’d fought his way in for me… and now he was ready to fight his way out.He glanced over his shoulder, eyes locking onto mine—dark, sharp, deadly focused.“Stay close.”His voice was low, steady—too controlled, the kind of calm built from pure adrenaline. He took my hand and led me out, every step silent and precise. The corridor was dim and narrow, concrete walls giving away that we were still deep underground.Only when we reached the elevator did I realize how far down we were.He jabbed the button. The lift arrived with a soft ding.We stepped inside.I felt his hand tighten around min

SADIE’S POVA signal…To me? To his men? To himself?I didn’t know. But Randall didn’t notice. He was still riding the high of his own arrogance.Damon picked up the pen—but held it wrong. Not like someone preparing to sign.Like someone preparing to stab. But he hid it well, twirling it between his fingers with lazy precision.“How many men did you bring?” he asked casually.Randall snorted. “Enough to make sure nothing goes wrong.”“Mm.” Damon sniffed the air slightly, as if smelling the cigar smoke. “You sure?”A few guards shifted uncomfortably.Randall frowned. “What are you implying?”Damon’s gaze slid to him, slow and sharp like a blade being unsheathed.“If you brought enough men…” He paused, tapping the pen. “…why are they nervous?”Every guard stiffened. Randall glanced around, irritated. “Stop acting like idiots—”Damon cut him off. “They’re sweating, Father.”A beat of silence. He stepped closer, voice dropping. “Because they know something you don’t.”Randall narrowed his
