DAMON’S POV

I knocked once. Twice. No answer.

Her room stayed silent, the kind of silence that started to gnaw at me. I tightened my grip around the envelope in my hand—the divorce papers. The reason I was here. Get her signature, make it final, keep it clean.

But there was no response, not even the rustle of her usual quiet movements.

I waited. Knocked again.

“Sadie.” Nothing.

The bathroom door was closed.

I rapped my knuckles against it, harder this time.

“Sadie.”

Silence. No water. No sound.

Something twisted low in my gut. She wasn’t answering. She wasn’t making a sound. Against every line I drew for myself, I turned the handle and pushed the door open.

And stopped.

DAMON’S POVBOOM.Glass shattered. The skylight blew open in a rain of shards.I didn’t wait.I jumped. The officers shouted behind me, but the roar of air drowned everything out. For a second I was weightless—falling straight into hell.Theo’s scream reached me first. He spun, gun snapping upward.I hit the ground in a roll—hard, brutal, bone-rattling—and came up with my gun raised.“SADIE, GET DOWN!”Gunfire exploded through the hangar as the police stormed in from the breach above, rappelling with military precision. But I only saw one thing.Theo’s hand clamps around my son’s wrist—yanking

DAMON’S POVThe moment the last man near Silas hit the floor and the gun smoke thinned into the air, my body buckled— just for a second.Just long enough to feel the heat of my own blood soaking through my shirt again. Just long enough to understand one brutal fact:I was running out of time. And then— Sadie’s scream hit me.Faint. Far. Choked. But it ripped through my skull like an explosive charge.Sadie. Daven. Taken.“Give up, Damon,”Silas’s voice slithered from somewhere behind the haze. “My men are closing in. You’re running out of bullets, blood, and luck. DAMON'SPOV The second the door slammed and Sadie disappeared behind it, something inside me snapped—clean, cold, lethal. One of Silas’s men lunged in, trying to force me down to my knees.Wrong move.I twisted, caught his wrist, and drove my shoulder into his throat. He choked, staggered—my fists already slamming into his ribs, his jaw—raw, bare-handed violence, because they’d stripped my gun the moment they dragged us out of the car in the basement. He collapsed, wheezing. And instantly every other barrel in the room lifted toward me.The click of safeties off was a chorus—sharp, metallic, deciding how close I was to death.Silas strolled forward like this was a theater show put on for his amusement. Then he dug the muzzle of his gu

DAMON’S POV.Theo’s grip on Sadie trembled, and his voice cracked as he spat the words at her:“Kill you? I love you, Sadie. Isn’t everything I’ve done enough proof? Even Daven is closer to me than to him!”Before I could react— before Sadie could pull away— Theo crushed his mouth against hers.A forced kiss. Brutal. Desperate.Sadie cried out against it, trying to twist away— and I nearly lunged.Nearly.The only reason I didn’t tear him off her was because the barrel digging into her ribs would’ve gone off.One wrong move, and she’d bleed out before I could blink. My hand curled into a fist so tight I felt blood seep beneath my bandage.

DAMON’S POVSilas Aldo.I’d known for a long time he worked for my father. But I never expected this—that he’d been carrying a grudge sharp enough to carve all of us open. And I still didn’t know why Bella was even here, why she’d been dragged into this mess.None of it mattered. The only thing that mattered was getting Sadie and Daven out of this alive.Silas stepped forward, eyes burning with a hatred he’d nurtured for decades. “How about we hear it straight from the old bastard himself?”Before my father could protest, Silas ripped the gag from his mouth, jerking his head back with a violent twist. Randall choked in air like he’d been drowning.“Go on,” Silas sneered. “Explain to him how you ended up here&h

  • The Stranger My Heart Belonged To   122. A Stranger Who Knew Us All.

SADIE’S POVI could see that Damon didn’t recognize the number. And somehow, that alone told me everything would go wrong.Damon answered before I could say anything. For a moment, nothing came through—just a cold, empty silence that made my skin crawl. Then a distorted voice slid through the speaker.“Mr. Prince,” it drawled, metallic and warped. “So good of you to pick up.”Damon’s grip on the phone tightened. My stomach knotted.“Where is the boy?” he asked.A soft, twisted laugh crackled through the line—unnatural, mechanical. “Safe. Safer than you, at the moment.”I flinched before I could stop myself. The voice went on, smooth despite the distortion, every word deliberate and suffocating. “If you want him back, you will come to the woman’s house.”My breath hitched. A pause followed—heavy, intentional.“Both of you. Together. No guards. No entourage.”Damon’s jaw clenched. I felt the tension radiating off him.“Why the two of us?” he demanded.Another laugh spilled out—colder, a
