ZAHRA-ROSE

The nerves hit me hard as I walked toward the training grounds. My senses were sharper than ever. I could hear their voices loud and clear, not just the people nearby, but even those standing further away. Their breathing, the shuffle of their feet, the whispered words laced with suspicion and disdain, my ears picked up everything.

I stopped walking, my heart hammering against my ribcage. It was overwhelming. Too much. I didn’t know how to shut it out.

“Breathe, Zahra-Rose. I’m sure everything will be fine.”

Her voice drifted through my mind, soft and steady, my wolf’s presence grounding me. I didn’t have a name for her yet, but her tone alone was enough to steady my spiraling thoughts.

“Zahra-Rose.”

I turned sharply at the familiar sound of the voice to see Ashvin’s mother, Luna Verena, walking toward me.

I didn’t know why, but the moment I saw her, I felt calmer. Maybe because I knew she would be overseeing the training today.

“Luna Verena.” I moved toward her and was ab

Ashvin helped me get to the pack house, ran a bath for me, and told me to relax while the scent of freshly cooked meat and roasted vegetables drifted from the table. My stomach growled in response.“Come eat with me,” I said before he could slip out the door.He paused, turning back toward me. His golden eyes darkened, the intensity behind them sharper than I had ever seen before. His gaze held mine, and slowly, so slowly, it drifted down to my lips. My heart hammered violently at the way his eyes lingered there.“I would love to,” his words dragged out, low and smooth. His eyes were still locked on my lips, a flicker of heat darkening his irises. “But I have a lot to do tonight. I hope you understand.”He didn’t move until I nodded reluctantly. Only then did he turn and slip out the door.At the sound of the door closing, I let out a shaky breath. Why was I suddenly so aware of him?Okay, it wasn’t sudden. Not really. But it was probably better that he had left… or else…..“I know wh

ASHVIN HARVEY I stared at the ruins before me, my claws itching to unsheathe as rage curled at the back of my neck. The scent of burnt wood and scorched earth filled my nostrils, mixing with the lingering stench of smoke.I forced myself to hold back the fury simmering beneath my skin, my wolf, Zen, prowling inside me, restless and ready to tear into someone.“Control yourself,” I reminded myself, even as my hands clenched into fists.Kai had gone to check the wreckage while I stood there, watching my warriors try to put out the last of the flames. The crackling fire had died down, but the damage was already done.“Alpha Ashvin.”I turned sharply, my golden eyes locking onto one of the elders approaching me. His posture was stiff, his scent laced with apprehension. He knew how furious I was.“What do you want?” I bit out, my voice laced with the growl rumbling in my chest. I shouldn’t let this small act of destruction rattle me, but it did.“We have to find who did this,” the elder s

ZAHRA-ROSEThe news of what had happened spread so quickly through the entire pack that by morning, it was no longer a secret.I had already braced myself for the weight of the day, everyone would be on edge, and that tension would only make things worse.Looking down at the simple outfit I had chosen for the day, I knew I didn’t want to step outside. But I had no choice, I was Luna now, and no matter how much I wished to stay hidden, I had to face the pack.As for Ashvin, he hadn’t returned since last night. I knew he was working tirelessly to uncover who had dared to set fire to our lands, to punish whoever was responsible.“I’m sure he will be alright. He will take care of everything,” Eira murmured in my mind.I wanted to believe her. But a deep, unsettling feeling lingered in my chest. After getting ready, I left my room and walked toward the dining area, where a table full of food awaited me. But I had no appetite. As soon as I got into the car, I braced myself. Luna Verena had a lot to say, I just knew it.But to my surprise, she remained silent throughout the ride to the training grounds. The tension between us was thick, suffocating. I could practically hear her unspoken thoughts, and it made my wolf restless. When we arrived, I reached for the door, relieved that she hadn’t said a word. But who was I kidding?“I want to speak with you,” she finally said, her voice cutting through the silence like a blade. My hand fell away from the handle as I turned to face her. Of course, she wanted to talk.“Sure,” I replied, forcing a polite smile. But deep down, all I wanted was to get out of the car and away from this conversation.“I heard what happened back at the packhouse,” she said. “How your mate, Alpha Ashvin, punished some of the servants for what they said.”I narrowed my eyes. Out of everything that had happened today, this wasn’t what I expected her to bring up. And how did she even hear abo

The heat of his anger rolled off him in ripples, his teeth just barely visible beneath the snarl threatening to break through. His muscles tensed, his eyes glowing faintly with his wolf’s fury. But I didn’t care. I wasn’t afraid of him. Not today.“What does it look like I’m doing?” I shot back, my voice matching his growl. “I’m doing what needs to be done.”His golden irises tightened as he glared at me, irritation glinting like wildfire. ASHVIN HARVEYThe previous day had been far too intense for everyone, but especially for her.I wasn’t sure if I should say I was proud, but I was. The way Zahra-Rose stood her ground, the way she submitted herself to her purpose without letting anyone intimidate her, it was the kind of strength that Alpha-bloods respected. Yet, she had no idea the kind of power she truly held… or how deeply her words had cut through the silence of our people.“It’s obvious you have a lot to say. You must not stay quiet about it,” she said from where she sat, her voice sharp and resolute. Her presence was overwhelming. Her wolf’s spirit blazed just beneath her skin, even if she didn’t realize it. She was already becoming someone strong.“I wanted to talk about yesterday,” I said quietly, breaking the tense silence between us in the car.She let out a long, tired sigh and leaned back against her seat, her posture reluctant, guarded.“Of course, you want to,” she murmured, eyes still closed. And why wou

ZAHRA-ROSEAt this point, I’m getting used to the training. It doesn’t hurt as much anymore, and I think my body has finally adapted to the intensity of it. The soreness, the bruises, they no longer sting the way they used to.But even as my limbs grow stronger, my mind keeps drifting to tomorrow’s session, the second time I’ll let my wolf come forward to fight. She needs to learn how to defend herself, how to move with strength and precision. After my first transformation, Eira was meant to begin training properly, with the guidance of Zen, Ashvin’s wolf, but ever since the fire incident, getting him anywhere near us has been nearly impossible. As I walked alone along the dark dirt path, the weight of the day pulling at my bones, I tried not to think about what Ashvin had said to me this morning, or the fact that he asked me to trust him.Trust him with what, exactly?“I thought it might be you.”I turned at the familiar voice. ASHVIN HARVEYHer scream tore through the Pack Grounds like a lightning strike. The crowd turned just in time to see her drop to the floor, her body convulsing as the change began. Her eyes blazed a molten red, and her bones cracked loudly as her knees buckled. Her screams twisted into a guttural growl, feral and raw, as sharp claws burst from her fingertips.Every pack member stood frozen, staring at her in stunned silence. Then she collapsed back onto the ground, her body writhing, and her scream shifted back into something more human, painful, agonized. She didn’t know it yet, but it was impossible to shift within the Pack Court. Every werewolf pack had ancient enchantments laced into the grounds, a law of magic and tradition meant to prevent chaos during trials and judgments. It suppressed full transformations, forcing control even during emotional surges. She lay there, panting on the cold earth, and despite myself, my heart twisted at the sight of her like that, shaking, vulnera
