Chapter 2

How had it all turned out like this?

No, Caelan couldn't be dead...

"Looks like you really didn't know," Neve snorted before she continued. "The reason you weren't burned alive on the spot is that Caelan went all out to save you. Unfortunately, he wasn't so lucky and he got blown up right then and there. He was completely unrecognizable. It was pathetic, to say the least."

"Ah..." It felt like Jade's chest had been punched, and she let out a desperate scream, glaring at Neve with a resentful gaze.

Why? Why Caelan?

She had kept him at a distance, ignoring his care and love, only to discover that he was the only one who had truly loved her. She had been blind.

"Tsk, look at your pathetic state." Neve laughed scornfully as she waved a syringe in front of Jade's eyes. "Since you're in so much pain, let me be a good sister and help you on your way."

Dawn was close after all this darkness.

Jade's head ached, her body felt like it was being reassembled, and the pain she felt reached the depths of her soul.

Why was death so painful too?

Jade slowly opened her eyes to a bright room and a large, soft bed.

Everything was the same as it had been eight years ago. Back then, Jade had been 18 and had just entered a prestigious national university. To celebrate, her father had thrown a party, but someone had spiked her drink, which had led to her being violated.

The incident had cast a lifelong shadow, and it had taken a long time for her to recover with the help of a psychologist.

Now, it seemed that the person who had drugged her must have been Neve. Jade hadn't expected to find herself back at 18 years old, on that same tragic day. She clenched her fingers, her nails digging into her palms as intense hatred turned her eyes blood-red. Since she had a second chance at life, she would change everything and prevent that tragedy from happening again.

"Oh, you're awake?" Suddenly, a man's lewd voice was heard beside her. "Good, that means we can have some exciting playtime. Haha!"

Jade turned her head to see three men by her bed, all of them obese and repulsive, with leering eyes and a foul breath. These were the men who had violated her in her previous life.

With a rush of hate, she endured the dizziness brought on by the drug. "Go away. Don't touch me."

She rolled off the bed, but her weak body couldn't muster much strength, so she could only crawl on the floor.

Finding her attempt amusing, the men laughed. "Haha, still want to run? Feisty ones are our favorite. What's fun about a dead fish?"

As Jade pushed herself to retreat, she realized she had no chance of beating three strong men. When she spotted a vase on the table, her eyes gleamed.

Just as a bald man pounced on her, she hit her head against the corner of the table. The throbbing pain alerted her a little, and she picked up the vase to smash it on the man's head.

With a loud crash, the vase shattered and the man fell to the floor with a groan. Jade's unexpected counterattack infuriated the remaining two men. After all, they hadn't anticipated a retaliation from Jade, who was weak from the drug.

"You wretched woman, you must have a death wish." The two men exchanged a glance and lunged at Jade.

Not willing to be a sitting duck, Jade grabbed a shard from the broken vase and pressed it against the neck of the bald man, glaring at the other two. "Come on over if you don't mind dying."
