Chapter 3

The edge of the fragment was sharp, so when Jade pressed it softly, a line of blood appeared on the bald man's neck. The two other men were taken aback by Jade's ruthless demeanor. "You crazy woman, who do you think you're trying to scare? I don't believe you'll actually do it."

"Really?" Jade smirked, pressing down with the shard a little more. Blood immediately streamed from the bald man's neck. "If he dies, both of you will be accomplices. I'll tell everyone the three of us did it together."

"You're insane!" Both men shouted simultaneously, looking at Jade as if she were mad.

"You forced me to do this!" Jade shouted back, unafraid. "Since it's come to this, we might as well die together."

The bald man woke up then, fear draining the color from his face when he saw that Jade wouldn't mind dying. "No, no, please don't. Don't mess around. We were just following Ms. Neve's orders. Get back at her."

Discovering this was indeed Neve's doing, Jade sneered inwardly. She glanced at the bald man. He looked flushed, his gaze seemed dazed, and his breathing was labored. He had clearly been drugged with an aphrodisiac, and the other two men were in a similar state.

How evil of Neve to send three drugged men to torment her. A surge of intense hatred welled within Jade, making her bite her lip.

"Get up." Jade, who was still holding the bald man hostage, moved toward the door. She opened it, then pushed him back into the room.

She locked the door after getting out and staggered away from there. She felt weak, so she had to hold on to the wall. She was disheveled from her earlier struggle and she needed to compose herself. Her wrinkled clothes and injuries would raise eyebrows if she went downstairs like this. Her priority now was to clean up.

The neighboring room's door wasn't locked, so Jade entered. She scanned the room for occupants and breathed a sigh of relief upon finding it empty. She found a first aid-kit and started treating her wounds at once.

The injury on her forehead wasn't severe. It was just a minor abrasion, so she applied some powder and rearranged her bangs to cover it. However, her clothes weren't as lucky, as they had been torn in several places. She'd have to find something else to wear.

The wardrobe contained some spare dresses, and Jade picked one to change into. Just as she began undressing, a deep male voice was heard behind her. "How did you get in here?"

Startled, Jade covered her chest, her heart pounding. The man's voice was too familiar. It was none other than Caelan, who had died to save her in her previous life.

She turned away from him with a happy smile. 'Caelan, I owe you so much from my past life. I'll make up for it in this one.'

"Who are you?" Caelan asked, his expression ice-cold. As he looked at Jade, his eyes glinted with a hint of disdain.

He thought it was shallow of the Severins to send a woman to him.

"Could you turn around first? I need to get dressed." Jade's cheeks burned.

She wasn't able to stay composed in front of Caelan. Now that she had this second chance at life, she wanted to give him everything she hadn't been able to before.

Caelan snorted. "You have one minute. Put on your clothes and get lost."

Since this woman had been conveniently delivered to his bed, Caelan felt no sympathy for her.
