Chapter 4: Lost control of himself

After storming out of the party angrily, Arthur ordered his driver to take him back to the house he was staying at.

Luckily, the driver was a werewolf and so he understood the urgency of the situation as he could feel the restlessness of his Alpha through the bond they shared and so, he drove very fast.

As soon as they arrived at the place, Arthur leaped out of the car and went up straight to his room, locking himself in it so no one would enter without his permission.

The moon goddess had to be playing with him or she had made some kind of a stupid mistake.

This was the explanation he could come up with for having such a weak person as his mate.

And on top of being weak, she was a human, a phony little woman who couldn’t even stand up for herself.

His status as a shifter as well as an alpha made him able to tell how strong a person was just by looking at them and he could tell that she was a very weak person.

What kind of a mistake was this?

His mate was supposedly the key he needed to end the battle that had been going for centuries.

With what he saw tonight, there was no way that that weak human would be able to do so.

Let alone helping in the war, there was no way that she would be able to lead the weakest pack under him then how would she be able to lead his pack.

He wasn’t going to accept such a person as his mate, he would have to do the dreadful thing and reject her.

At the thought of this, the lycan growled in his head and came to the surface trying to gain control of his body.

Arthur's eyes flashed from blue to a deeper shade of blue showing the battle between his human side and his other side to gain control of his body.

He could feel the anger that his lycan was feeling and he let out a deep growl.

And so far, the lycan was winning as he had started to shift with his canines elongated and fur coming out of his body. He was livid at the thought of him rejecting their mate.

His lycan was a strong one and the fact that it had alpha blood running through his vein made it even more stronger and so, naturally he hated creatures who were weak and the weakest creatures he hated the most were human. He couldn’t stand them.

But yet, he had already accepted his mate who was weak in the human world.

‘Stupid mate bond!’ Arthur cursed in annoyance as he struggled to win against the . He had already half shifted at his point.

It was really difficult for him as he and the lycan rarely disagreed. The human side of him hated his mate for being weak and fragile while the other side of him loved her even though she was fragile and weak.

If anything, it only drove the lycan to want to protect her from all evils.

There was a sudden knock on his door which caused Arthur to growl loudly. “Alpha, it’s Lance, please open the door, ” he heard his Gamma say.

He however wasn’t ready to see him and so, he ignored him. “It’s about your mate alpha,” Lance persisted.

Upon hearing the word mate from Lance, the beast growled and made Arthur open the door. “What is it about my mate?” he hissed sharply.

Lance upon seeing the half shifted alpha with dark eyes, he immediately knew that Arthur’s lycan was very close to the surface.

If he provoked him just a tiny bit, his lycan would take over and that would cause chaos.

He therefore lowered his head as an act of submission so Arthur would know that he wasn’t a threat of any kind.

“Speak!” Arthur commanded in his Alpha tone.

“I found out about your mate,” Lance started and paused waiting for Arthur's response. When he got none, he took it as a sign to go on.

“Her name is Amelia and she is an orphan who lost her parents at the age of two.”

“What else did you find out?” Arthur asked more like demanded.

“She was adopted by an elderly woman when she was six years old.

Prior to that, many families who adopted her returned her back to the orphanage as they thought that she was possessed by something or that she was suffering from a kind of mental disorder,” Lance informed and Arthur growled as he transformed even more. His entire body was now covered in fur.

The thought of those pathetic humans thinking that his mate was suffering from some mental disorder didn’t sit too well with Arthur and his lycan. As a disrespect to her was invariably a disrespect to him.

“Go on,” he ordered Lance.

“But Alpha,” Lance started, hesitant to continue so Arthur would not lose control of himself.

“Go on!” Arthur commanded in his alpha tone leaving no choice to Lance but to do as he was asked.

“Her life wasn’t easy as people segregated her and stopped their children from having any interaction with her. She was bullied by her classmates and the residents of the town,” Lance paused for a while before continuing.

“And think only got worse when the elderly woman who adopted her died a year ago. Unable to find a decent job, she had no choice but to work for Madam Rosa, the owner of the restaurant that served us tonight.''

This was one of the perks of a small community, he was able to get information on Amelia easily.

“Where does she live?” he asked Lance.

“On the outskirts of the town,” Lance answered.

“And what does she do in her place of work,” Arthur inquired.

“She mops the floor, cleans the table and chairs, washes the dishes, basically all kinds of menial jobs asked of her,” Lance answered.

Hearing Lance's answer was the last straw that broke his back.

As the beast who was angry at the fact that his mate had to do such jobs, overpowered him and took control of his body.

He swiftly transformed into his big white lycan and leapt over Lance, leaving the scene. “Alpha!” Lance called in horror as he also transformed into his grey lycan and followed Arthur.

He could feel the anger which Arthur felt and if he didn't stop him, he would destroy the town.

"Alpha please stop," he tried to mind- link Arthur but he was unable to reach him as the latter had blocked him.

Arthur was much faster than him and so it didn't take long before he lost him. Now all he had to use to track him was his scent which was slowly fading away.

'Shit!' Lance cursed and he increased his speed.

After his beast took control, Arthur ran as far as his legs could take him. The beast was livid and wanted to let off some steam.

He would have entered the community and killed everyone of the residents for disrespecting his mate.

Thankfully Arthur was able to control his beast, not to do it. Instead, they went to the forest to hunt for something. The lycan stopped when he noticed a deer who was drinking water from a stream.

The deer didn’t notice him coming. He covered himself with the tree and stationed himself behind a tree, ready to pounce on the deer.

With His canines elongated and his claws ready, he came out of his hiding spot and proceeded to pounce on the deer.

However, mid air, he suddenly caught a faint scent that distracted him from his prey.

The deer escaped but the lycan didn’t care about that anymore. Instead he was concerned about that smell. That sandalwood and citrus scent that belonged to his mate.

The white lycan purred in happiness when he realized that his mate was somewhere close by.

He started sniffing the air trying to find out where her scent was coming up.

He finally managed to find which direction the scent was coming from. He slowly started following and not long he came out of the forest, and he found himself staring at a small house.

The smell of his mate was really strong and so he knew that his mate was in the house.

As he was about to take a step closer, he heard the leaves rustling. That meant that someone was coming.

His mate was close by. Were they coming for her? The thought of that made him growl loudly and he positioned himself to attack whoever it was that was coming.

A grey lycan emerged from the woods and Arthur growled his canines at him telling him to back off.

The grey lycan immediately fell on all fours and showed him its neck as a sign of submission.

However, the white lycan was having none of it. If he didn’t back off soon, he wouldn’t hesitate to kill it. He growled slowly once again.

Lance realized that the lycan would attack him if he didn’t move back. And so it retreated before he shifted back to his human form.

“Alpha, I mean no harm,” he said but the lycan growled at him. At least his eyes weren’t red yet,’ was what Lance muttered to himself.

If a lycan eyes turned red, then there was no stopping him. That meant that the beast side had completely taken over him but if his eyes were still a dark color then that lycan could still be cautiously spoken too.

“Alpha, please shift back, if you go in there like that you’ll scare your mate,” Lance said, trying to get Arthur to change back.

Seeing that the lycan wasn’t growling at him again, he figured out that the lycan could see the sense in his words.

“Alpha, your mate isn’t a shifter like us and neither is she a supernatural being but a human,” he pointed out.

“This means that she is oblivious to our world and you meeting her in this form will for sure scare her.”

Lance didn’t know what the moon goddess was thinking, when he paired the most powerful lycan to an ordinary human and not even a strong one but a really weak one.

Even though Arthur didn’t say anything, he knew that the Alpha also had the same thought and it was an insult to him to be paired with a human; something that had never happened before.

The prophecy said that Arthur's mate was the only one capable of ending the war. But seeing her tonight made Lance start doubting the prophecy.

Silence ensued the night after Lance was done talking. Only the sounds of crickets could be heard.

One minute, two minutes, Lance was counting.

After five minutes passed, the sound of bones cracking could be heard and soon after a human became visible.

Arthur sighed and cleaned the dust of his clothes. This was one those moments he was thankful that the issue of their clothes riping after shifting had been solved.

After seeing that Arthur was back, Lance slowly approached him. “What are we going to do now Arthur?” he asked.

“What else are we going to do but to take her home?” Arthur said and he started to approach the house. Lance took a deep breath and followed Arthur.

As Arthur got closer, he could see the dilapidated condition of the house. He was sure that just one hit from his lycan would send the house crumbling to the ground and this was the house that his mate stayed in.

His lycan started trying to come out once again but Arthur was able to subdue it from doing so. They got to the door and Arthur held the doorknob and pushed the door.

His strength was too much for the door which came right out of its hinges. He put it aside and entered the house and right behind him was Lance.

“S-stay b-back!” came a weak voice. They turned and saw Amelia backed up against a door and she was holding a frying pan in her hand.

Did she really think she was going to fight him with a frying pan? Arthur rolled his eyes at this while his lycan laughed at how cute their mate looked with the frying pan in her hand.
