Chapter 1

مؤلف: Anonymous
In an abandoned warehouse, my mother was tied up in the middle of the open floor, her body covered in bloody slash marks.

She looked up at the woman before her, her face twisted in pain. "Adeline... I'm your mother-in-law. How could you do this to me?"

Adeline Malone paused mid-motion while touching up her makeup. A cold smirk curved her red lips, her beautiful face dripping with contempt.

"Then tell your selfish son to crawl out of hiding. Do that, and I'll let the rest of you go."

At the mention of my name, my mother's body swayed. She seemed to age ten years in an instant. Her voice cracked as she whispered, "Samuel... can't come see you."

Adeline's expression hardened. She let out a bitter, knowing laugh.

"So Samuel's been hiding ever since he found out I was coming back for revenge? Is that it?

"If Nicky weren't sick right now, I wouldn't even bother looking for him. Just the thought of Samuel's name makes me sick."

Her eyes burned with undisguised hatred and disgust.

Watching this, a wave of bitterness flooded my mouth.

Nicky Bennet was Adeline's first love—the man she now treasured above all else. If he weren't sick, and if I weren't the only one who could perform his surgery, she probably would never have thought of me again.

"I'm giving you one last chance," Adeline said coldly.

But my mother just shook her head, refusing to break her silence.

Adeline's face went dark. She muttered something to one of her men. Seconds later, a speeding car came roaring out of nowhere and slammed straight into my mother.

My mother's frail body flew through the air like a broken kite before crashing to the ground. Blood pooled beneath her as she lay there, eyes slowly closing.

I watched it all unfold, frozen, my heart shattering into pieces. Regret and anguish tore through my chest, crashing against each other like waves.

I curled up, trembling, tears spilling from my eyes.

"I'm sorry, Mom. This is my fault.

"All of this is my fault. I shouldn't have made you keep that secret. I shouldn't have fallen in love with Adeline..."

From a distance, Adeline stared at my mother's motionless body, her face twisted with rage.

She kicked the side of her expensive car and let out a guttural snarl. "Damn it. Samuel, you can hide for the rest of your life if you want. But your mother's about to die—I know you'll show up."

Her words jolted me back to reality. I pressed a hand to my chest, where my heart ached with a dull, numbing pain.

How I wished I could tell her myself.

That I've been here all along.

It's just that... I've been dead for four years.

All the pieces finally came together, forming a complete, devastating picture.Adeline rose to her feet, unsteady, her face pale and hollow. She opened her mouth, but no words came out. Guilt and shame consumed her from the inside out.Everything around her now screamed the same truth: her hatred, her revenge—it had all been a farce."So don't ever bother Samuel again, Adeline."Those few words drained whatever color remained in Adeline's face. She stood there for a long moment, then turned and walked away. One thing had always puzzled me.Why was Adeline so quick to believe Nicky? Why did she hate me so easily? But now I understood.Adeline was selfish. She craved love—but she was also picky about it, clinging to her own warped worldview and doing whatever she convinced herself was right. It cost me my life to finally see her clearly. After settling my remains, my sister set out to seek justice.Adeline's reckless livestream had left behind a trail of evidence. Even though

Adeline knelt before my sister, her face streaked with tears, her voice trembling with desperation. "Nellie... please, give me Samuel's remains. He loved me so much..."My sister glared down at her, unmoved. "Adeline, stop daydreaming. Samuel loved you—and what did he get in return?"He gave you his heart, and you repaid him with hatred. You murdered our parents. And now you have the nerve to crawl here and beg for forgiveness?"Adeline's face went even paler. She struggled to speak. "I was deceived...""So what? So that means we deserved to suffer for no reason? If I had any say in it, I'd wish my brother had never met you."My sister's eyes burned with fury as she watched the light slowly drain from Adeline's face.A bitter, satisfied smile curled on her lips. She pulled out the wedding announcement Adeline and Nicky had posted online and tossed it right in Adeline's face."Feels awful, doesn't it? Being betrayed by the one you love most."Take a good look at yourself, Adelin

Adeline couldn't believe it. The man she'd held in her heart for over a decade had just struck her—for another woman. She stood frozen, tears welling in her eyes."Nicky... you said you'd love me forever."Nicky let out a mocking laugh."Come on, you're not some naive little girl anymore. You actually bought that?"Adeline sank to the floor, looking up at him with dazed desperation."Nicky... what happened to my shares?"She stared at him, searching for any hint of a reasonable explanation. But Nicky just pulled the other woman closer, smug and triumphant."I did it all. I'm tired of playing pretend with you. It's exhausting.""Then what was all of this? What did your promises even mean?!" Adeline grabbed the hem of his shirt, pleading. "Nicky, I gave up everything for you! You can't do this to me—I'm your fiancee!""You were just a rich, gullible woman. There are plenty of those out there. And now? You're broke. You really think I'd still grovel at your feet? Try again in y

  • The Surgeon's Ghost   Chapter 7

I watched Adeline with a bitter ache in my chest. At some point, I'd lost count of the moments I regretted my decision.Go ahead, Adeline. Dig. Find out the truth. She had just reached the parking lot and was catching her breath, about to get into her car, when a woman tapped her on the shoulder.Adeline turned, confused, and studied the woman's face—she looked vaguely familiar. Before Adeline could speak, the woman beamed and said, "You don't recognize me? I was a nurse in Dr. Samuel Newell's department! I've since quit, though."You know, Dr. Newell really loved you. He gave up his heart for you. Such a shame, really—his cancer could actually have been treated."With that, the woman's husband pulled up in their car, and she waved goodbye and left. But those few sentences had already sent Adeline's world into a tailspin. She steadied herself, her palms cold with clammy sweat, her mind churning in chaos. What did that mean...?Nicky had always told her that Samuel was doing w

A few days later, Nicky had a medical episode and was rushed to the hospital.Adeline hovered over him, tending to his every need."Adeline, my condition is getting worse," he said weakly. "Does Samuel really not want to save me?"Watching Nicky put on this pathetic act, I felt nothing but disgust.Sure, his illness was rare—and there weren't many doctors in the country who could treat it besides me. But it was never this severe. He was just putting on a show, playing up his symptoms because he'd realized Adeline still couldn't fully let go of me.And it worked. Adeline's hatred for me burned even hotter. Her voice cracked with desperation as she said, "Don't worry, I will find Samuel. I swear it."For Nicky's sake, Adeline stormed into my mother's hospital room. She yanked my mother—still in critical care—straight off the bed and onto the floor. My sister, who had been dozing nearby, jolted awake. She'd dropped out of school to work multiple part-time jobs just to cover our mo

  • The Surgeon's Ghost   Chapter 5

After having my sister dumped at the hospital, Adeline returned to what used to be our home. The cozy little place where we'd spent three happy years together. My eyes landed on the wedding photo sitting on the cabinet, and I couldn't look away.I remembered every single detail of this house. Adeline and I had picked out everything together, piece by piece. The deed was in Adeline's name because she once told me she'd never had a home of her own. So I promised her—emotionally and financially—that I'd give her one.I could still see the look of surprise and joy on her face back then, as clear as if it were yesterday. Now, all I saw was coldness and hatred.Nicky was by her side this time.He looked at her and asked, "Are you still not over Samuel?"Adeline froze for a moment at his words. Then her eyes flickered with venom."Even if I can't forget him, it's only because I can't forget how he abandoned me when I was at my lowest, most desperate point. If I don't make him pay with
