No One To Call
Now I realized where the panic, fear, and anger had come from. There was only one way Godric could become Alpha. According to Anna, either Alpha Ken would have to give up his title or he would have to die. And since Alpha Ken was nowhere to be found I assumed the latter.
I swallowed hard realizing the worst had come. "Are you guys saying what I think you're saying? Is Alpha Ken dead?" The pit of my stomach began to knot over. I was sick just thinking of the thought. Alpha Ken had been nothing but kind to me since I got here. He made sure everyone made me feel welcome while my parents were away. And then it hit me. These two had just lost their father. "I'm…I'm so sorry to hear that. Are you guys OK?"
Alex could hardly make eye contact with me. And Godric wouldn't stop looking at me. Finally, he said, "There's something else you should know."
"Godric. Gently." Alex said. "Gently."
Godric nodded to
Changes I finished my food as I wallowed in deep thought. I was grateful for Anna bringing me the food. In a way, it made me a little better. I gathered the empty plates and carried my tray downstairs. I was almost knocked over by some pack members. They were all walking towards the same area. I stop one of the girls. "Where's everybody going?" "Pack meeting in 10 minutes." She said and kept it moving. I dropped my tray in the kitchen and followed everybody to the meeting. I didn't have to go far. The pack members were starting to crowd the area in front of the Alphas house. Alex and Godric were front and center along with the three men I saw in the office earlier. I searched for Anna but couldn't find her, so I just took my place standing next to people I didn't know. "Listen up!" Alex said in a voice I had never heard him use before. Instead of his kind, sweet, carefree voice; all I heard was authority. Everyone else must hav
Signs of Something New The stinging in my hand subsided soon after I stopped touching Alex. "Are you ok?" He looked at me with concern. I fanned my hand back and forward. "I'll see you later. Thanks for the walk by the way." Alex watched with confusion on his face. I tried not to be rude, dismissing him in such a manner. But I really needed to talk to my friend. I grabbed Anna by the hand and dragged her into her house. I paced around her living room several times before she finally stopped me. "Okay. Are you going to tell me what's wrong with you?" Anna had been like a teacher to me these past few weeks. She was like an endless pit of information. Showing me the ins and outs of pack life. Showing me the land. And provided me basic information of hierarchy, so I knew who not to piss off. I knew she would be able to answer my questions. I blurted out. "I need you to tell me about getti
I Want To Help The next day, I was awakened by the sound of trees falling. Anna was nowhere to be found. She must have let me sleep in while she tended to her duties. I grabbed my things and headed home. As I walked back to the Alphas house, I could see the trees were being cleared. And makeshift homes were being put up in their place. They must be getting ready for the people coming from the other pack. I watched as everyone pitched in. They each had their jobs here. Everyone had a place in the pack. There were trainers, cooks, cleaners, builders, and guards. I seemed to be the only one without something to do. Even Anna was off handling the Luna’s affairs while she was out. When I reached the gate to the Alpha’s house, Sophie was coming down the driveway. She seemed to be in a better mood than everyone else, who were all still sad by the news of Alpha Ken. I tried to pass her with my head down. I wasn't in the mood for our ri
Happy Early Birthday I couldn't wait to meet with Anna and tell her the news of our new assignment. She wasn't excited the assignment was centered around her birthday but she was happy to have a new task. "I have been so bored without the Luna being here." She told me. Luna Ariel would not arrive for another two weeks. That would give us enough time to handle all the Alpha’s requests. For me, I was just happy to contribute something, even if it wasn’t a permanent job. By week’s end, we had gathered everything we needed and packed it up to go to the cabins for the meeting that would take place the next day. The Alpha Kings’ lands ran large and wide. For security reasons, the designated area to meet with the rogue leaders would be at the very edge of that land. The ride from the Alpha’s house to the cabins took almost an hour. I was amazed at how far the pack’s land extended. And every inch of it was beautiful. From the h
An Unfamiliar Face I felt two small hands shaking me. When I opened my eyes, Anna was standing over me. I looked to the other side of the bed and it was empty. The Alpha was gone. "Where did the Alpha go?" I asked her while yawning. "The Alpha?" She questioned. "He is downstairs with getting ready for his meeting." She scrunched her eyes in confusion. "How did you know he was here already?" I closed my eyes again, trying to capture the scent of him but it was gone. Maybe I had been dreaming. Why else would Godric lay in the same bed as me? Back at home, he wouldn't even come into my room. I ignored her question and changed the subject. "How long have you been up?" Remembering her body sprawled out over the couch. "Long enough. I made the Alpha and guards some lunch and cleaned up the mess we made here in the room. Now it's time for us to get back home." She helped me up. "Lunch!" I jumped out the bed. When I wok
A Surprising Tribute My eyebrows scrunched together, and my head turned to the side. "I haven't talked to my parents in almost a month. What's fair about that?" I stepped a little closer to him. With only a tiny bit of space between our bodies. Anna grabbed my arm and pulled me away from Evander, whose lips were now curled in a smirk. "Guess the Blood Moon pack does have a little fight in them." He said while walking past me and Anna. His friends were now laughing at me. Anna held my arms tighter. She was much stronger than she looked. Whispering in my ears, Anna said. "Remember. Political approach. Everyone is counting on this meeting. If you want to see your parents again, you need to be nice." I wiggled free of her grasp. "I'm sorry. I'm just mad." I said to her while continuing down our path. I looked to the Alpha, hoping he wasn't disappointed in me. Alex and the others were calming him down. Anna grabbed my hand t
The Sacrifice Godric growled loudly as he stood up from the table. "You can’t have her!" His outburst caused the table to almost shake. I never heard him sound so angry. Alex jumped out of his seat and came towards me. I didn't understand what was going on. Alex stood behind me with his hands on my shoulders. Godric's eyes darted to Alex's hands and a smaller growl was released. Alex removed his hands promptly. "Oh, this is getting good." Evander let out a sarcastic laugh. "Name something else!" Godric said. The elder was trying to calm him down with no success. I looked up at Alex who was still standing over me. "Alex, what is going on? Why is Godric so mad." Before Alex could respond, Evander spoke up. "The Alpha and the Beta are worried I won't take good care of you." Evander said smiling as if he had just won. He looked at Godric. "She will be treated like the tribute she will be." "Me?
The Agreement The next morning, I left Anna in the room alone. We hadn't said much to each other all morning. Just sat in silence. She refused to be there for this next part. And I couldn’t blame her. To her and Godric, I was about to do something awfully stupid. I was going to sacrifice myself for the well-being of everyone else. I was about to walk into a situation without knowing anything. But I would be strong. The walk from the Alpha's room to the negotiation tables seemed like the longest walk ever. I would think my feet would be happy to walk, knowing my parents would be free soon. But instead, I felt like cement blocks were tied to my ankles. While I and Anna slept, I thought a lot about what Godric said. 'What did I want?' When I finally made it to the tables, everyone was standing around. No doubt waiting on me. Godric held out his hand leading me to a seat next to his. Once I was seated, everyone else followe
