I, Ella Ashford, didn't stay for the celebration after the marking ceremony.

Instead, I went home alone.

The moment I pushed open the door, the taste of blood filled my mouth.

Bracing myself against the wall, I doubled over in a violent coughing fit.

Bright red blood dripped through my fingers onto the floor.

Just as my legs threatened to give out, footsteps came from outside.

A healer happened to be passing by.

The instant she saw the blood on the floor, her face turned pale.

"Oh my Moon Goddess! Ella, are you hurt?"

I shook my head.

"I'm fine. I won't die from it."

She hurried over and examined me. Her expression grew more serious by the second.

"It's wolfsbane. At least five times the normal dosage.

"You're only still alive because your body is much stronger than an ordinary werewolf's."

She hesitated before continuing.

"But that's not the worst part.

"There's another force inside your body that's spiraling out of control."

I lowered my gaze and said nothing.

To keep my true identity from being exposed if I lost control, I'd been taking suppression potions for years.

Normally, wolfsbane wasn't enough to hurt me, but it reacted violently with the potion.

The two forces collided inside my body, nearly tearing my wolf spirit apart.

If my bloodline hadn't been powerful enough, I'd already be dead.

After treating my injuries, the healer left me several bottles of medicine and reminded me to take them on time.

The moment she left, loud voices drifted in through the open window.

It was Liam Langdon's friends.

They had clearly been drinking. They were laughing loudly.

"Hahaha! Did you see Ella's face when she showed up? She was so stunned she couldn't even say a word."

"She's just a rogue. Without Liam, how would she survive?"

Someone lowered his voice.

"So, is Liam even coming back tonight?"

"Why would he? The marking ceremony's over. Of course he's staying with Chloe."

Another werewolf burst into laughter.

"The girl he's been in love with for years finally came back. I wouldn't leave her side either."

"They've probably already–"

The rest of the sentence dissolved into crude laughter.

The entire group roared with laughter.

I calmly closed the window and drank the bowl of medicine in one gulp.

Some time later, the front door opened.

The pungent smell of alcohol filled the room.

Seeing that I didn't greet him the way I always had, Liam let out a soft chuckle.

He walked over and loosely wrapped an arm around me.

"It was just a marking ceremony. There's no reason to keep dwelling on it."

His tone was light and dismissive.

It was as if becoming the laughingstock of the entire Silver Moon Pack was nothing worth mentioning.

"You're right."

I nodded calmly.

I picked up the empty medicine bowl from the table and walked past him toward the kitchen.

Liam followed behind me.

"I got you something."

The next second, a cool weight settled around my neck.

I looked down.

It was an amethyst necklace.

I'd never liked anything made with amethyst. I liked white moonstone.

Bright, colorful crystal jewelry had always been Chloe Kingston's favorite.

"Thanks," I answered nonchalantly.

I then continued washing the bowl.

Seeing that I wasn't throwing a tantrum, Liam seemed to relax.

He leaned forward and tried to kiss my forehead, but I stepped aside before he could.

I smiled.

"I'm allergic to alcohol. Have you forgotten?"

He paused and frowned as he studied me.

For a moment, he seemed to realize something was different.

Before he could speak, however, the phone on the table lit up. Chloe's name appeared on the screen.

His expression softened immediately. Without sparing me another glance, he answered the call and hurried out the door.

Back in my office, I motioned for Finn to sit down. The wound on his arm looked severe."Don't move."Holding his wrist, I carefully tightened the bandage.Finn's tall frame immediately went rigid. He looked like a soldier awaiting inspection."You heal quickly, but Liam is still an Alpha. This injury shouldn't be taken lightly."Go soak in the Silver Spring later."Noticing the faint redness creeping over his ears, I tilted my head."Are you feeling all right?"Finn cleared his throat."I'm fine."His ears turned even redder. After tying off the bandage, I reached for the medical kit to put it away.Suddenly, he spoke, "Aurora.""Hm?"A long silence passed before he finally found the courage to continue."H-Have you really moved on from Liam?"My hands paused for just a moment.I smiled."Of course."Finn let out a sigh of relief, but almost immediately, he became even more nervous. He clenched the fabric over his knees until his knuckles turned white."W-Well, s

I simply shook my head."Liam, what happened one night was never what made me give up on you."It was every time you chose her and abandoned me."As the color slowly drained from Liam's face, I let out a sigh of relief."I'm actually grateful you gave Chloe the marking ceremony."Every time I think about how close I came to becoming the mate of someone who tolerated people bullying me, it makes me shudder."Liam, becoming your mate would've been my nightmare."He stood there completely stunned. His eyes were filled with disbelief when he looked at me."Why?"I looked at him in confusion."What do you mean?""W-Why are you so cruel to me?"I couldn't help but laugh."Because I don't love you anymore."Back then, I was willing to act dumb and play the role of an ordinary shewolf in love."But the play is over."Tears rolled down his cheeks. It was the first time I'd ever seen Liam cry.He hadn't even cried when Chloe broke up with him years ago.Yet my heart didn't sti

As the future Alpha, I began taking over pack affairs. Every day, I traveled between the council chamber and the training grounds. After finally settling a border dispute, I took a walk alone through the hunting grounds to clear my mind.Suddenly, someone grabbed my wrist and dragged me outside. In just a few days, Liam looked like a different man. He was haggard, and his eyes were bloodshot."Ella. No, Aurora."Come back to the Silver Moon Pack with me."If you come back, I'll pretend none of this ever happened."Slap! His head snapped sharply to one side.I slowly lowered my hand and looked at him calmly."Have you come back to your senses?"The side of Liam's face I had slapped quickly turned red and swollen. His eyes welled up with tears too. He actually looked wronged."How could you hit me?"Are you going to choose the throne over me?"I almost laughed."So now you finally understand what it feels like to be abandoned?"His voice softened."T-That's different."

Liam's mind went completely blank."That's impossible."Aurora was a name every werewolf knew.It was just like how everyone knew that the Frost Moon Pack was the most ancient and powerful pack in werewolf history. It was the birthplace of more Alpha Kings than any other.Meanwhile, Aurora was Frost Moon Pack's only princess and its strongest successor. The room fell silent. Finally, someone spoke with a trembling voice."Alpha, if that's true, then what we did yesterday–"Crash!Liam kicked the table over.Bottles shattered, and crimson liquor flowed on the floor like fresh blood.By the time everyone came to their senses, he'd already sprinted out of the manor. He sped down the highway in his sports car while calling me repeatedly.Every call went straight to voicemail. With a frustrated growl, he slammed his fist against the steering wheel. The car accelerated even faster. He went to the place where the convoy had last been seen, but the place was empty by the time h

Some time later, Liam cursed under his breath. He yanked open the front door and chased after me, but outside the villa, there was nothing except the dark night.I was long gone. One of his friends sensed something was wrong and cautiously asked, "Alpha, should we send someone to bring Ella back?"Looking out over the empty manor, Liam felt an unfamiliar sense of unease. He'd never imagined that I, the always obedient shewolf, would actually leave. The feeling disappeared almost as quickly as it came. With a cold chuckle, he said, "Why bother? She'll come crawling back within three days."In the entire western territory, where else could she possibly go besides the Silver Moon Pack?"If she misses the next full moon, I won't mark her even if she gets down on her knees and begs."Everyone burst into laughter when they heard that."Exactly. Without you, Alpha, she can barely survive.""She's probably hiding somewhere crying right now."I had just checked into an inn near the

I stopped moving."The smell of alcohol is too strong in here. I'm allergic to alcohol. I really don't feel well."Liam set his glass down and looked at me with an annoyed expression."But Chloe is sensitive to the cold. What if she falls sick?"Everyone's having a good time. Don't ruin the mood."I fell silent for a moment before asking softly, "How much longer will this go on?"Liam was beginning to look impatient."At most another two hours. Just hang in there."Fighting back the dizziness, I shook my head."I really can't take it."His expression didn't change in the slightest."That's your problem."He picked up his drink again and drained it in one gulp.An awkward silence followed.Just as I was about to speak, Chloe suddenly smiled, pulled out her phone, and connected it to the living room speakers."What's the fun in just drinking? It's a party. We need some music."The next second, deafening music blasted through the villa.Everyone immediately raised their g
