Chapter 2

작가: Floris Lowe
Just like in the previous lifetime, Ian retrieved a pair of glasses and put them on once the exam started.

He even kept using a ruler to reflect sunlight onto my desk, trying to lure me into glancing his way.

I decided to cooperate and looked over at him a few times.

Of course, I was only checking whether he was properly copying my answers.

Watching Ian fill in his answer sheet in perfect sync with my pacing, I almost laughed out loud right there in the exam hall.

'Well done, Keith. Without you, how could I ever get into Alpheno College? Shirley promised to spend the whole night with me tonight. Should I go home and get changed?'

While fantasizing about Shirley, Ian set down his pen.

After making sure I was still writing my essay, he immediately stood up and turned in his paper early.

Before leaving, he even shot me a smug grin.

Alright. It was my turn to actually answer the questions.

I naturally took off my glasses and rubbed my eyes before quietly erasing every answer on my answer sheet.

Since the exam paper was exactly the same as it had been in my previous life, thirty minutes was more than enough time for me to rewrite everything from scratch.

But there was one thing I still couldn't understand. How had Ian managed to finish the essay before me and make it identical to mine?

During the exam, Ian had written the essay first. He then used the projection feed from the glasses to fill in the remaining questions.

That was why he could hand in his paper early while still turning in answers identical to mine.

I slowly clenched my fists until my knuckles turned white. The overwhelming rage nearly drowned my senses.

It had to be Shirley. Shirley must've stolen the essay topics I predicted and given them to Ian in advance.

When the final bell rang, I handed in my answer sheet and exam paper before leaving the hall with the rest of the crowd.

Not far away, Ian stared at me maliciously.

'Keith's mom works as a designer or something, right? She raised such a dumb son. I'm better than him in every way. It's only natural Shirley fell for me instead.'

I casually walked past Ian and greeted him with a smile.

"Ian, you turned in your paper really early. Feeling confident?"

Ian pretended to look troubled and shrugged. "Not at all. I couldn't understand most of it, so I just came out early.

"I'm not like you. You're the smart one. You're definitely getting into Alpheno College, aren't you?"

I had never once told anyone that Alpheno College was my first choice for college. It seemed Shirley had told him that too.

I smiled at Ian and said softly, "It's alright. If not this year, there's always next year.

"Oh, right. The school I'm applying to is Callisto College, not Alpheno College."

Every exam afterward went smoothly.

For every single paper, I specially prepared a unique version just for Ian.

Yet Ian never noticed a thing. He copied answer after answer onto his sheets.

When the final bell rang, I set down my pen and finally let out a sigh of relief.

Today, just like last time, Shirley was waiting for me outside the exam hall. Ian, who had once again turned in his paper early, was standing beside her.

The moment Shirley saw me, she smiled and waved enthusiastically.

"Keith! Over here!"

I grinned and jogged toward her.

Right in front of Ian's murderous stare, I grabbed Shirley and kissed her hard on the cheek.

"Shirley, I guessed the questions right! I really guessed them right!"

'This is great! Hahaha! I knew Keith would be lucky.'

"That's amazing, Keith! I knew you could do it!"

While offering fake congratulations, Shirley casually removed the glasses from my face.

I looked at her in confusion as she smiled and put my repaired glasses back on me. "This frame looked a little crooked. Since returns are still accepted today, I'll swap them out. I already fixed your old pair for you."

After stuffing the glasses with the camera into her bag, Shirley seemed visibly relaxed.

'Now everything's foolproof. Even if Keith figures it out, he won't have any evidence.'

Ian suddenly stepped closer with a victorious grin on his face.

"Keith, are you and Shirley really getting engaged? Man, you're so lucky!

"Shirley's gorgeous and smart. I'm honestly jealous."

'Bet you didn't know Shirley's already slept with me. She's completely obsessed with me.'

Thinking about their nights together, Ian stared at Shirley intensely. Shirley looked back at him just as passionately.

'Ian's definitely going to be rough tonight, especially with that position from last time.'

As if I didn't even exist, the two of them exchanged heated looks while filling their minds with filthy thoughts.

In my previous life, after I was accused of cheating, every school blacklisted me. Not a single high school was willing to accept me for another year of study.

Meanwhile, Ian transformed overnight into the top SAT scorer in the state and was showered with praise.

Countless reporters traveled from other cities just to interview the handsome young prodigy.

One day, Ian showed up in his school uniform and looked into a camera with tears in his eyes.

"Keith, we were classmates. I really didn't want to see you ruin yourself like this.

"Everyone makes mistakes. Yours was just a little bigger than most. Although your grades were fake all along, if you're willing to work hard and apologize to me, I'll forgive you.

"I know you're watching this interview. Please stop hiding. Come out and admit your mistakes."

"Thank you for being lucky enough to have another chance after going through so much hardship, and thank you for choosing to fight again even after being broken once before.""That was beautifully said, Keith. We also heard your class produced not only this year's top scorer, but also the lowest score in the city's history. Is there anything you'd like to say about that student?"I cleared my throat and looked into the camera."As for Ian, I do feel sorry for him. Although I still don't understand why his essay was identical to mine, I believe he didn't intentionally make those mistakes."As long as he adjusts his mindset and reflects on his mistakes seriously, I'm sure he can recover."Good luck, Ian. You still have another chance to repeat the year."After that, the reporters asked about my college applications and relationship status.I frowned before revealing the truth about Shirley attempting to steal my mom's designs using a pinhole camera.Within hours, Shirley's name w

At that moment, my phone rang. My homeroom teacher's excited voice immediately came through the speaker."Keith! You're this year's top scorer! Congratulations!"The classmates around me instantly started congratulating me. Some students who had scored badly completely broke down on the spot. They crouched in corners and sobbed uncontrollably. The chaos of voices woke Ian, who had fainted earlier. Everyone looked at him. There was one second of awkward silence. Soon, everyone quietly returned to their own conversations as if nothing had happened. That reaction humiliated Ian even more. His face instantly turned red.Our classmates exchanged awkward glances, while a few shamelessly started mocking his outfit."He dressed like a celebrity, so I thought he scored something amazing.""How did he even manage to score so low?"Ian completely lost it. He glared at Shirley, but he realized she was even more confused than he was.She kept refreshing Ian's results page over and over. Di

I was extremely confident in my results. I could say without exaggeration that these SAT scores would determine the course of my entire life.In my previous life, this was the day I was humiliated beyond measure.Ever since being reborn, not a single day or night had passed where I forgot that pain.Shirley walked over to me. Her eyes were also glued to my phone screen."The results are out!"Someone suddenly shouted.Every student immediately pulled out their phones and started refreshing the results page frantically."What the hell? How are my scores so low?""Hahaha! I made it!""Refresh already, you garbage phone!"Cheers and cries filled the air around us.Sweat rolled down my face from the nerves. Finally, my results page loaded.I did it.I immediately locked my screen.'Damn it! How much did this pathetic simp score? I didn't even see it.'Shirley clearly hadn't seen my score. She eagerly asked, "Keith, what did you get?"I couldn't even bother responding to he

My mom looked at me in confusion. "What's wrong, Keith? I'll look into it first. I can teach her another time."I walked over and shut the door before turning to look coldly at Shirley."Explain why the alarm went off the moment you walked in."Shirley immediately panicked and started making excuses, but her words barely made sense. In the end, she even tried turning it around on me. She demanded to know why I was suspicious of her.The moment the police arrived, Shirley instantly fell silent. Not a single word came out of her mouth.'I'm screwed. Keith, you dumb jerk, are you trying to ruin me?'I almost laughed.During the search, after a casual reminder from me, the officers found the pinhole camera hidden inside Shirley's collar. My mom was shaking with anger. She pointed at Shirley in disappointment. "How could you do something like this?"Our family has always been good to you. How could you betray us like this?"Shirley lowered her head and looked like she wanted to di

A few days later, Ian posted a photo of his real membership card on social media, claiming the previous one had been stolen. It seemed Shirley spent a fortune smoothing things over with him this time. That restaurant's membership wasn't easy to obtain. Apart from meeting a spending requirement, customers also had to dine there at least three separate times.Humming softly to myself, I walked out of my mom's studio."Keith, someone's here to see you," she said.I secretly sneered. At this exact same point in my previous life, Shirley had come to my house too. She'd claimed she recently started taking freelance design commissions but had completely run out of inspiration. Since my mom was a famous designer, Shirley wanted her advice. But not long after Shirley left our house, my mom's designs were suddenly accused of plagiarism too.A rival studio registered identical designs one week earlier than my mom. When my mom submitted her own drafts, she was publicly accused of copying

I turned my wallet inside out and still couldn't find the card.Sweat broke out across my forehead as I panicked and looked at Shirley."Shirley, I definitely brought the card today. You saw it too, didn't you?"I put it in my wallet. How is it gone?"A few classmates immediately started whispering behind my back. Someone even clicked their tongue in disgust. "If you're broke, why pretend to be rich?"'Seriously? I already put the card in his wallet. How did he still lose it?'Watching me desperately search through my wallet without finding anything, Shirley frowned and glanced at Ian.Ian cleared his throat and drew everyone's attention."Ahem. Since Keith doesn't have the card, or rather, he can't find the card, I'll just pay instead."Right in front of everyone, he pulled a card out of his wallet and handed it to the waitress."Whoa, Ian has a membership card too? He's loaded!""I knew Ian seemed classy. He's definitely from a rich family.""Exactly. Unlike someone prete
