The devil's knocking

Lindsay POV

When I heard the front door close, my heart skipped a beat. I knew my parent were gone and now Asher could do anything he wanted. The door to Leia's room was locked, but I was still trembling. He had keys to all the rooms in the house, so the door couldn't protect me.

Leia was already asleep in my arms. I tucked her carefully into her bed and I slipped off to stand behind the door.

Nothing happened for the first few minutes, but I then started hearing footsteps coming upstairs. My heartbeat picked up pace instantly. It was so loud that I could hear it.

Tears trickled down my eyes as I wrapped my hand tightly around the rod in my hands.

The footsteps kept coming closer. With each thump, it felt as though my life slowly slipped away from me. I was so scared that I couldn't hold on to the rod properly. It was all sliding down my sweaty palm.
