Smack!

The blow snapped my head to one side, and my ears rang.

“Summer Leigh, how long are you going to keep this up?”

A furious voice came from above me.

I looked up and saw my second brother, Shane Leigh.

He was one of the country’s biggest stars, yet he’d once stood in line for three hours in the rain to buy me a limited-edition cake. Now he glared at me with pure fury.

The pool area was in chaos.

My so-called younger sister, Jocelyn Leigh, was soaked through and curled up on a lounge chair, shivering and coughing.

The man protecting her was Harrison Kane.

He was the untouchable heir to one of the capital’s most powerful families and the main target transmigrator had spent three years desperately trying to win over.

Harrison gently patted Jocelyn’s back, then looked at me.

“Mr. Leigh, I’ve certainly seen what your family considers good manners today. If Miss Leigh likes the water so much, perhaps she should spend the night in the pool and cool off.”

Shane’s expression darkened.

Then he turned to me and shouted, “What are you waiting for? Get over there and beg Jocelyn for forgiveness on your knees! If you really pushed her in and she drowned, I’d kill you myself!”

I said nothing.

Three years.

For three whole years, some inexplicable woman from another world had controlled my body.

I’d been trapped in a dark room, forced to watch her wear my face and paint it with vulgar makeup while she fawned over the men in their circle and caused one scene after another.

To win Harrison over, she’d even drugged him.

To get my three brothers’ attention, she’d targeted Jocelyn every day, crying, throwing tantrums, and threatening to kill herself.

She’d trampled my dignity and squandered every bit of affection my family had for me.

Now she’d left without a care, and I was stuck with the wreckage.

When I still didn’t move, someone on the other side of the ballroom scoffed.

My eldest brother, Mason Leigh, stood up and tossed a stack of papers at my feet.

“Stop expecting her to apologize. Someone like her is heartless.”

Mason looked down at me, his gaze devoid of warmth.

“Summer, we gave you countless chances over the past three years. You were the one who threw them away.

“Sign these papers severing your ties to the family. From today on, you’re no longer a Leigh.”

“Mason…” Jocelyn weakly lifted her head from Harrison’s arms.

“Please don’t do this. She only acted this way because she cares so much about all of you. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have come back…”

“Jocelyn, you’re too kind. That’s why she keeps bullying you.”

My third brother, Wesley Leigh, came over from the side.

“Summer, you have a serious mood disorder and paranoid personality disorder. As a doctor, I recommend immediate psychiatric treatment.

“Jocelyn was lucky to come away unharmed. Save what little dignity you have and stop while you can.”

Everyone in the ballroom watched, waiting to see how the once-spoiled Leigh heiress would be thrown out by her own brothers.

According to the memories left by the transmigrator, I should have thrown myself at Mason’s feet and sobbed that I was sorry, or screamed at Harrison that I’d been framed and Jocelyn had fallen into the pool by herself.

They were all waiting for me to lose control.

They expected me to fall to my knees and beg for their forgiveness like I had before.

But I didn’t.

I stood still and wiped the corner of my mouth.

It felt sticky.

I looked at the blood on the back of my hand for a second, then slowly crouched and picked up the papers severing my ties to the family.

“Where’s the pen?”

At the end of the year, Newford hosted the city’s most prestigious business gala.I wore a perfectly tailored designer suit and entered as the investment world’s biggest rising star of the year. The ballroom glittered with lights. I held a glass of champagne after wrapping up a conversation with several investors about upcoming projects. When I turned around, I came face-to-face with four people I knew and barely recognized.Mason, Shane, Wesley, and Harrison.I couldn’t imagine how much effort the three Leigh brothers had gone through just to get into a gala at this level. They looked much older and more haggard.Half of Mason’s hair had turned white, and his once-straight back had begun to stoop.Shane’s face was covered in stubble. He had grown so thin he was almost unrecognizable, and the confidence of the A-list star he used to be was gone.Wesley looked even worse. His eyes were unfocused, and he seemed utterly lifeless.Meanwhile, Harrison stared at me with his mouth hanging ope

[Summer, where are you?][I’ve been looking for you all night. Please answer your phone.][Just let me know you’re safe. I’m begging you.]The golden boy of the capital’s elite, who had always acted like he was above everyone else, was actually begging me.I stared at the last text, my finger hovering over the screen for a second. Then I deleted every message without hesitation.Dawn was breaking outside.I switched off my phone and pulled out the SIM card linked to every number in the Leigh family. Then I walked over to the clinic’s trash can and dropped it in.The first rays of sunlight fell across the street, bright enough to make me squint.A debt of forty million dollars sounded like an impossible sum to repay. But they all seemed to have forgotten that before the transmigrator took over my body, I had never been a woman who had to rely on the Leigh family to survive.Three years earlier, I had already secured several key patents and secretly invested in an overseas pharmaceutical

For three years, the transmigrator had chased Harrison and bought outrageously expensive gifts for the Leigh brothers to show off. She’d maxed out all my credit cards and taken out high-interest online loans in my name. The principal and interest came to $40 million. That was the parting gift she’d left me: kicked out of my home and saddled with a mountain of debt.As I stared at the numbers, my phone suddenly vibrated.Shane was calling.I watched his name flash on the screen for several seconds before I answered.“Summer!”As soon as the call connected, Shane’s voice came through. It trembled with panic. “You finally picked up… Where are you? Do you know how hard it’s raining? Your feet are still bleeding. Tell me where you are, and I’ll come get you right now!”I moved the phone away from my ear. “What do you want?”My tone made Shane freeze.“Summer… I’m sorry.”The superstar who’d never been willing to back down now sounded close to tears.“We checked the hotel security footage…

Mason’s face was cold, and his voice came out stiff. “Play it.”The butler set the tablet on the table. The footage was clear. Summer had been standing quietly by the pool, looking at the view.Jocelyn walked over on her own. The moment she saw Harrison appear around the corner, she smiled at Summer, then suddenly leaned backward into the pool without warning.Summer hadn’t even raised a hand. When the video ended, an even heavier silence fell over everyone.Shane stared at the screen, looking as if all the strength had drained out of him.“N-no. That’s impossible!”He looked at his right hand. That was the hand he’d used to slap Summer half an hour earlier. He’d hit her with all his strength, splitting the corner of her mouth.“Jocelyn, what’s going on?”Mason’s voice had lost its usual composure. He turned and fixed his gaze on her.Jocelyn dropped to her knees. “Mason, Shane, I didn’t mean to…“Summer scared me. I thought she was going to push me. I was so nervous that I slipped… I

Harrison froze.“Last month, Jocelyn fell down the stairs on her own. When I said I hadn’t pushed her, did you believe me?“Today, she jumped into the pool herself. When I said I hadn’t touched her, did any of you believe me?”Harrison’s face grew paler with every question.“Harrison, for the past three years, whenever Jocelyn and I had a conflict, all of you blamed me without even asking what happened. You’d already decided I was a cruel, jealous person.“So I admitted I was guilty. Isn’t that what you wanted all along?”I gave him a bitter smile. “Now you’ve got what you wanted, and you’re asking why I didn’t defend myself. Harrison, don’t you see how ridiculous you all are?”Rain fell between us.Harrison’s tall frame swayed.“Summer…”He instinctively took a step toward me, reaching out as if he wanted to hold on to something.Just then, a night bus pulled up at the stop by the road.I didn’t look at him again. I turned and climbed aboard. The driver, an older man, saw how miserabl

Harrison seized Jocelyn by the wrist. He snatched the necklace from her and said coldly, “There’s an S engraved on the back of the pendant. Three years ago, Summer wouldn’t even take it off to sleep!“When did it become something your mother left you?”A flash of lightning split the sky with a thunderclap.Mason and Shane whipped around to stare at Jocelyn. Her face went deathly pale. “I—I…”Shane snatched the necklace and turned the pendant over in a panic.Sure enough, a tiny S was engraved on the back. So, Summer hadn’t lied. The one who’d been stealing and lying all along was Jocelyn—the girl they’d always treasured. Then why had Summer looked so cold and resolute as she walked into the rain?Harrison shoved Jocelyn aside and ran straight into the downpour without even taking an umbrella.“Summer!”His panicked voice came from behind me, mixed with the sound of hurried footsteps.I heard him.But I didn’t look back or even slow down. The rain grew heavier as I walked barefoot down
