A deafening scream wakes me and I sit up realizing that it came from my lips. I blink to adjust to the harsh sunlight shining in the room. My breathing is harsh, lungs constricted. My body is covered in a layer of sweat. I look around to see I'm in my bedroom I release a sigh and try to calm my beating heart. I'm okay I'm save I tell myself it was just another nightmare.

I ran away from my old pack when I was seventeen exactly a year ago. Today is my eighteenth birthday. I stumbled across a small town a few hours away from my old pack and I met a girl while searching for a place to sleep. She refused that I sleep on the street instead she took me home with her. Her name is Casey.

I have been living with Casey since I ran away from my old pack. She's a werevolve and helped me by giving me shelter and even helped finding me a job. She's the only person I have told of what I am and I've come to trust her. I don't trust easily anymore yet I feel I can open up to her. She's like a sister to me one I never had. She knows all about my control issues and anxiety attacks. She has been helping me with my wolf side how to shift and control my raging temper. I still struggle with my vampire side and magical powers but it has been getting much better the past year.

I got up from bed and made my way into the bathroom to have a shower before heading to work. I strip off my pajamas and turn the shower on waiting for the temperature to rise. I stand under the warm water and let it soothe me from my nightmare. I wash my hair and body and get out and grab a towel and wrap it around my body. I grab some clothes a black t-shirt and black jeans with sneakers and quickly get dressed. moving to my mirror I stare at my reflection my deep black hair is a mess I comb through it and blow-dry it. Once I'm done I look myself in the mirror my emerald green eyes are big and looks empty. Dark circles under my eyes from lack of sleep. I sigh and go down the hall to the kitchen.

Casey is already there and made some breakfast as well when I enter shr looks up from her plate and make her way to me wrapping me in a hug.

"Happy birthday Cass I hope you have a wonderful day." She says squeezing me tighter.

" Thank you Casey." I reply with a smile on my face and return her big hug.

Casey let's me go and motions for me to sit and have some breakfast. I obey and quickly dig into the eggs and bacon.

" So I have been thinking you know I'm going back home tonight to do my routine check in with my Alpha. I want you to come with me." Casey says with a serious look on her face.

Casey has been living out of her pack for the last year and a half but she's required to do check instead with her alpha every two months it's the agreement they have so she can live outside her pack. I don't know the reason whg she lives outside her pack she never mentioned why and I didn't ask to respect her privacy.

" Fuck Casey I don't think that's a good idea." I replied worry lacing my voice.

Shit ehat if I go there and her alpha contacts my father and tell him where I am. I haven't run away and stayed away just to be tracked down now. I know my father is still looking for me.

" Well think about it please I would love for you to meet my family they will love you I promise. And no one will hurt you there you'll be safe. I don't want to leave you alone here again please just think about it I leave at 5 today." she pleads.

"I'll think about it." I reply to make her stop pleading.

Should I go with her what if her alpha is a douchebag I can't ask her if he is she's obviously going to say no because of her loyalty to her pack but I also don't want to stay here alone. Last time she went home and I stayed here alone I killed four people because I couldn't control my vampire side. Maybe I should go with her I thought.

When we were done with breakfast we made our way to work. We worked in a restaurant Casey was training to be a chef while I was a waitress. The restaurant was a block away from our apartment so we just walked there. As we were walking something was nagging me that we were being watched I scanned the streets and saw a man across the street staring at us. Who the fuck is that I thought I blinked and the man was gone. Shaking my head I said to myself it was probably my imagination.

We got to the restaurant and entered the restaurant had various booths down the wall and a few single tables in the middle a large counter in front where the hostess stands to show people to their seats. We make our way to the kitchen and grab our aprons to start working.

The day went by fast the mystery man from my imagination far from mind just before it's time to clock off I made my way outside from the back in the kitchen. Standing in the alley to get some fresh air and to think. I shouldn't go with Casey I'm to scared that someone notifies my father of where I am I can go back there. He already killed me once and doomed my life he'll kill me again and this time I won't wake up. Just as I was about to head back in and tell Casey I won't be going a hand grabbed me from behind and slammed me against the wall.

The man from earlier on the street was gripping my throat and lifting me up against the wall choking me. I struggled to get free from his grip.

" You think you can run away from your father after what you did think again." He snarled at me his canines protruding from his mouth.

I started panicking. My father knows where I am. Fuck! I can't let this man take me back. I won't go back I called my vampire side to the front and it's like I instantly saw red. I grip his hand that's on my throat tearing it away so I can breath. He tries to grip harder but I'm starting to loose control and my patience I push him off me and he stumbles back I let my werevolve claws extend and grab his throat. I slam him against the wall slicing his throat with my claws.

" Who the fuck are you?" I growled at him my anger taking away all rational thought my blood lust taking over my whole body.

He tries to speak but my grip is to tight I loosen it a bit so he can speak. " You're father... he send ... us ... to take ...you back" He stammers out struggling to speak from my grip on his throat. Blood dripping down his neck.

" How many did he send?" I snarled back at him looking at the blood that drips down his neck.

" A whole army." He stutters and my blood runs cold in my veins. My father send a whole fucking army to get to me.

Without any hesitation I let my fangs protrude and I snarled at him. " I won't be going back with you or anyone else."

I let my blood lust take over and plunge my fangs into his neck drinking his blood. I can't control the urge of my blood lust and I tear into his throat ripping it out. I let his body go and he fells to the ground his head rolling a few feet away. I looked at the body and wondered how the fuck am I going to drink blood without taking of the head from someone or kill them in the process.

"Cass?" a voice called from behind me.

I turned and saw Casey standing there with scolding look on her face. Casey never got scared of me when I was in this state she only scolds me and tells me to control myself. My vampire side immediately retreats upon hearing her voice I stare at her and she stares back at me lifting a eyebrow waiting for an explanation.

" Fuck I'm sorry Casey. I didn't mean to kill him. Well I did but not tear his head off. My father send him." I say as I whispered the last part. Tears start to prick my eyes. I can't do this I can't live when I don't have any control of my abilities. I can't keep running forever he'll find me no matter what.

" Shhh it's okay Cass. I understand." Caey says pulling me into a hug. " Come on let's get you cleaned up and you're coming with me home. No arguments. Goddess knows how many people you'll kill when I'm not here." Casey jokes and I smile nodding at her.

Once we got back to the apartment we quickly packed some clothes and got into her car. Her pack was only two hours away from the city. I leaned my head against the window and sleep takes me easily.
