“I hope you do not mind Rose coming with us. I want my sister and mate to become friends,” Erik announced, opening the passenger door for me.

But Rose chimed in before I could step toward it. “I am sorry, but I feel so sick in the back. The motion makes my head spin. Could I please take the passenger seat?”

“Of course, Rose,” Erik replied instantly, ignoring my soured expression. He helped Rose climb in, settling her with a blanket before ushering me into the back seat like an afterthought.

“Are we going to L’Orchidée Blanche?” Rose asked, and Erik nodded.

She beamed with joy. “Do you remember, Erik? We went there for the first time when we were fifteen. You wanted to impress me and ordered the entire menu! Alpha Caleb scolded you so much for spending a fortune.”

Rose giggled, a light, melodic sound that grated on my nerves. “Oh, the wine there is divine. It is so sweet that you overdrank it… and finally made our first kiss happen.”

She gasped, covering her mouth dramatically. In the rear view mirror, her eyes met mine—a tiny, triumphant glint shining through that Erik was too blind to see.

"I am sorry, Leona, I overstepped boundaries. I don't want to ruin your date," she said, though she was already leaning her head onto Erik's shoulder while he drove.

"I remember," Erik said softly, his gaze softening in a way that made my stomach turn.

For the next hour, I became a ghost at what was supposed to be our romantic dinner. Erik ordered for her, filling the table with her favourite delicacies and nothing that I liked.

He filled her plate, served her wine, and cut her steak into tiny pieces. He laughed at inside jokes from a childhood I wasn't part of. Every time I tried to steer the conversation back to our wedding or the pack business, Rose would let out a small, pained cough that brought Erik’s attention snapping back to her.

"You're so lucky, Leona," Rose sighed, reaching across the table to pat my hand. "Erik is such a caring soul. He used to carry me across even the smallest puddle whenever it rained so I wouldn't get my shoes wet. He’s always been my hero."

Erik beamed, his chest swelling with pride. He looked at me, expecting me to join in the praise, completely oblivious to the fact that I felt like an uninvited guest at our date.

By the time we returned to the packhouse, my heart was a lead weight. I was desperate for one moment where I was truly his—no Rose, no past, no sickbeds. I needed to reclaim him to remind his wolf that I was his fated mate.

The moment the door to my room closed, I threw myself into his arms. I kissed him with a frantic, hungry energy, my hands wandering beneath his shirt to feel his rock-hard chest. I wanted to drown out the memory of Rose’s voice with the sound of his groans.

We tumbled onto the bed, a tangle of bodies and desperate heat. Clothes were gone in seconds. Erik’s touch was familiar, but there was a frantic edge to it tonight. He pulled me against him, his lips marking the sensitive column of my throat while his hands traced my curves with hunger and desperation. I arched into him, my skin burning under his touch, my wolf purring as our scents mingled in a heady, intoxicating cloud.

I wanted to lose myself in him, to feel the weight of his body grounding me. I wanted to forget the little damsel in the white dress and remember the man who had promised me forever.

My breath hitched as his hand slid lower, his thumb grazing my hip bone, moving towards my aching heat, sending a jolt of pure electricity through my spine. I straddled him, my fingers digging into his shoulders, ready to claim him.

But as I moved to ride him, he stopped. The heat in his eyes flickered, replaced by a cold, sharp hesitation. He reached for his jacket on the floor, pulling a condom from the pocket.

I froze. “I thought we agreed to start our family right away. We wanted a pup.”

Erik sighed, looking away. “We should use protection... until the ceremony.”

“The ceremony is in two weeks. It doesn't matter.” I snatched the packet and tossed it across the room, my voice trembling with a mix of lust and growing dread. “I want to feel you, Erik. All of you. No barriers.”

Erik swallowed hard, his eyes filled with something that looked like guilt and hesitation. He sat up, pulling the sheets over his lap to create a physical wall between us.

“Baby... we have to postpone the mating ceremony.”

The words hit me harder than any punch in the arena. The wine, the diamonds, and the designer bags—they weren't gifts. They were a bribe. He was softening the blow before he shattered my world.

And I realized then: I wasn't fighting for what was mine. I was fighting for a man who had already left.

But as the silence stretched between us, I made a silent vow. If Erik wanted to postpone our future for a ghost of his past, I would make sure he lived to regret the day he ever let go of my hand.

“Looks like you had fun spending the pack’s money,” Rebecca hissed, her sweet, innocent mask completely gone. “Just a few essentials,” I said casually. I could practically see her burning with jealousy as she eyed the bags from the city's most lavish boutiques. “And why are you waiting for me? Bored already?” “I came to warn you,” she spat, her voice trembling with rage. “I know exactly what you are—a shameless whore who forced herself on Erik. Once he rejected you, you crawled to Stellan, craving his power. But I swear, I will unmask you, and he’ll toss you out like garbage.” I didn't flinch. Instead, I reached out and gently patted her shoulder with a wide, mocking grin. “Oh, and here I thought you wanted to be friends. I was looking forward to braiding each other’s hair and having a movie night,” I teased. I dropped the smile, my gaze turning cold as steel. “But since that’s

The silence stretched, uncomfortable and heavy. “Brian, make room for your Luna,” Alpha Stellan said firmly. He clearly wanted Brian to move so we could sit together. Gamma Brian’s face darkened, but he didn't dare disobey an Alpha’s command. The moment he rose to move, I acted. I swiftly grabbed an empty chair from the corner and wedged it directly next to Stellan. “No need to make a fuss,” I said sweetly as we squeezed into the tight space. I turned to Brian with a sugary smile. “I’m sorry, but I simply can’t stay away from my mate, even for an hour.” Brian swallowed hard, and Stellan gave me a sharp, approving nod. Omegas began to serve the courses, but nobody cared about the food. All eyes were on me. I ignored them completely, focusing on my plate with practised indifference. “The food is delicious,” I said, taking a sip of wine. “My compliments to you, Luna Colette, for hiring such talented chefs.”

The ultra-luxury villa was a marvel of modern architecture, featuring sharp, geometric lines and expansive floor-to-ceiling glass walls that overlooked a sleek infinity pool. Perched dramatically on a cliffside, the house combined a sophisticated "James Bond" aesthetic with minimalist lounging areas.“It is our home,” Alpha Stellan said, as twenty Omegas bowed in unison at the entrance.“Eleanor and Clarissa will be your personal maids. They will escort you to your room. My suite is next door if you need anything,” he added. The two she-wolves bowed politely.I followed Eleanor inside. I had been born into wealth, but this was another level of opulence. My room was a masterpiece—bright and airy with a panoramic window, a massive bed, and a plush cream sofa. The bathroom was enormous, featuring an array of high-end products and a marble bathtub that looked more like a pool, positioned perfectly to face the breathtaking mountain view.“Luna, would y

The journey was long. Alpha Stellan was buried in his laptop, so I decided to use the time to catch up on sleep. But the moment I closed my eyes, Renata’s shrill voice screamed in my mind.“Leona, how dare you defy your family?” she shrieked through the mind-link. “We told you to fix the mess you created, and instead, you run away? Do you have any idea what this union means to our pack? Your father and Alpha Caleb are trusted allies, and now everything is on the line because of one spoiled, ungrateful brat!”I sighed deeply. Again, she didn't even try to pretend she cared about my wellbeing. To her, it was a pure business.“I got you a better deal,” I replied coldly. “The North Storm is a far stronger pack.”“I do not care! Generations were spent building our ties, and you destroyed everything in a single day. Come back and beg Erik for forgiveness. Tell him you were emotional and confused. Promise him—”Alma roared angrily in my head, a sound so fierce that Renata paused, shocked.“D

I hesitated for only a heartbeat before stepping forward. Without a shred of doubt, I reached out and took Alpha Stellan’s hand in mine. His touch was surprisingly warm and soothing.I raised my chin, looking directly into Erik’s eyes. My voice was smooth, like velvet wrapped around a steel blade. “Hail to Alpha Stellan Norgaard—the rightful King of the North.”Erik’s expression shifted in a flash from disbelief to pure, unadulterated rage.“You can’t be serious! Mating with this ruthless monster?” he yelled, his chest heaving. “He doesn't love you. He doesn't care if you live or die; he just wants to be King. I am your fated mate! You are my Luna! MINE!”He took a jagged breath, his voice dropping to a desperate, breaking whisper. “How could you? How could you choose him?”I smirked. Seeing him realize he had lost the crown hit him hard. Good.“Erik, I am fully aware that Alpha Stellan and I are strangers. I know there is no lov

I opened my eyes to the morning, sun shining brightly through the open blinds. My body ached as if I had been hit by a train, but the physical pain was nothing compared to the hollow, aching void in my chest.“Alma?” I called out to my wolf. Only silence answered. She was still retreating, wounded by the rejection. The room was unnaturally quiet. I listened intently, realizing the entire packhouse was silent—no voices, no footsteps, no morning bustle. Something was wrong. I bolted to the door and yanked the handle. Locked."Let me out!" I screamed, banging on the wood until my knuckles bled. Then, the realization hit me like ice water. They had abandoned me. They had evacuated the packhouse, leaving me behind in a locked room while an enemy attack was imminent. The mate who had sworn to love, cherish, and protect me had left me as a sacrifice. My father and stepmother hadn't even bothered to check on me.I fell to the floor, unable to cry
