Emily's POV

In the doctor's waiting room, with my fingers holding the edge of the chair tightly, I sat nervously waiting to get the result. Each passing second was making the knots in my stomach stronger.

The nurse called me up and I walked into the office.

The doctor was a kind, middle-aged woman with a soft voice and glasses that sat low on her face. "Emily, correct? Let's review your test results."

I nodded, my hands cold.

She looked away from the computer screen at me. "You're pregnant."

The words were like a punch to my guts. I didn't move. I didn't speak.

Pregnant. Just great. I had a one-night stand with some strange guy, and now I'm pregnant with his baby, and I don't even know who the man was.

I stared at her in an attempt to understand, but just… stopped thinking completely. This was my fault.

"How far gone am I?" I whispered.

"About three weeks," she said. "Are you alright?"

"Yeah. I just—needed to know," I pushed out through clenched teeth.

She handed me the printed results. I thanked her and quickly left the office.

My ears rang with the beat of my pulse. I grasped the envelope as if it were some electric charge and headed for the elevator.

My phone rang in my purse and I stopped to reach for it. I wasn't looking, and kept walking then…

Crash! I hit someone.

The paper flew and my bag dropped to the floor with a thud. "Oh my God, I'm so sorry," I exclaimed.

"It's fine," a deep voice responded at the same time.

I froze. That voice. It was familiar.

I looked up—and my breath caught in my throat. It was him! The man from that night.

He had the same calm eyes. The same sharp jaw. His beard was trimmed neatly and he crouched down to take my test paper.

He gave me the paper. "You dropped this."

My fingers quickly grabbed it out of his hand before he got a better look. "Thanks," I muttered.

He cocked his head to one side to study me, but I didn't give him the chance to say anything. Then I grabbed my bag and virtually sprinted out of the building.

It doesn't matter, I told myself. It was just a coincidence. I would never see him again.

"Emily!" Maria screamed my name for the hundredth time.

"Coming!"

The diner was packed with a lot of customers. And Maria yelled the orders out.

"Emily! I need you to give this to table six!" she called out.

"Got it!" I took the platter and balanced the plates.

I made my way through the tables with my head hung low and walked to the corner booth in the back.

He raised his head and I froze.

Oh God. Not today. He was sitting alone with his white shirt rolled at the sleeves, revealing his tattooed arms. He raised his head and I saw the tattoo on his neck going down to his chest and a few open buttons.

What the hell was he doing here?

He turned his head and his eyes met mine. I couldn't move. My throat dried up. It was him. The man from that night. But why was he here? Out of all the diners, why would he come to this one?

"Emily!" Maria yelled and I knew I had to keep moving. I swallowed and continued walking towards him, acting as normal as I could.

"Here's your order, sir," I said calmly.

"Thanks," he said and I was about to leave when he shocked me. "Hello, Emily. How have you been?"

Shit. He remembered me. And he knew my name. My heart stopped.

Quick, act like you don't know him.

"Do I…do I know you?" I responded.

He smirked, reaching for his coffee. "Are we playing the memory loss game, sweetie?"

"I don't know what you're talking about," I lied, my voice slightly trembling.

He sipped his coffee then placed the cup on the table and relaxed in his chair. "I waited for your call for a whole day."

The air caught in my lungs. Why wasn't he dropping it?

"I don't know what you think happened…" I began.

He cut me off. "I remember everything."

My cheeks turned red and I gulped. "I…I'm sorry. I don't know why you're talking about."

"I'll advise you to stop acting dumb, Emily."

"I'm not…"

"Did I fuck your brains out that night or is it just so hard to remember the man who got you pregnant?"

"Wait. What?" I stuttered. He knew? How?

He smiled and held his coffee cup again, then sipped. His eyes stayed on me, watching me with those devilish hints in them. "You're speechless. I like that. Now, we can talk better."

"I…I…" I breathed, my words failing me.

"So, Emily, tell me. Why didn't you call? Don't tell me you were shy?"

"I wasn't.."

"Oh, you dropped the act. How nice."

Shit. I had just admitted to knowing him.

"I meant I wasn't shy because I don't know what you're talking about."

"Really?"

"Yes, really," I said, flatly.

"Alright," he said and his eyes calmed. That scared the hell out of me. "I guess it wouldn't hurt your feelings if I asked your boss for confirmation on where you were that night."

"That's crazy. She's not…"

"Or, I could show you the video of us having sex so you'll believe it," he said.

I blinked. There was a video of us having sex? Oh, my God!

"You didn't…" I stuttered and he smirked harder.

"I did. Did you expect nothing while sleeping with a stranger? Dent me again and I'll make sure we're not the only ones that know about the sex tape."

My heart dropped.

"Let's go over this again, shall we?" He asked. My heart skipped a beat.

"Are you Emily, the girl I slept with that night, or not?"

I held back my tongue, wanting to deny it but something warned me not to test his patience.

"Yes, I am," I confessed.

"Great. Next question, pretty girl. Is the baby mine?" He asked.

The tray shook in my hands and I swallowed.

Holy hell. What had I gotten myself into?

  • The Tycoon Knows How To Love    Speak Of The Devil

Speak Of The Devil Emily’s POV I stepped out of the room after dinner, trying to find a spot for my escape. I found it, opened the door, and walked in. Inside was a computer, and by the sides were bookshelves. I could tell it was an office. Everything was in place from the arranged files, rolling seats, and the quietness. My legs moved further towards the bookshelf. One book got my interest, and I picked it up, and a piece of paper fell, and I looked down. I bent to pick it up and turned it to see a familiar face. It was…Cole. My stomach twisted. The same eyes and smile but he was younger, maybe six. “Don’t touch that.” I jumped, turning, my heart racing. Lucious stood behind me. How long had he been standing there? He walked towards me and took the picture, kept it inside the book, and placed it back on the shelf. I was curious. My heart was racing wildly. “Who is he?” I asked softly. “My son.” My heart stopped. I whispered, taking a step back. “Cole?” He cocked his he

My phone was face down in the passenger seat.I got to my apartment, threw my purse on the workout chair, and grabbed my laptop to turn it on and wait for it to boot. Then I opened my drive and searched for the file name April.Cole and I shared an email account for our expenses and savings. There were screenshots. Bank statements. Transfers. • The Tycoon Knows How To Love    Who Was This From?

Emily's POVThe clock on the wall read 7:42 p.m. It took me two hours to leave the diner today; the smell of fries, coffee, and sweat was still in my hair."Go home, Emily," called Maria from behind the counter. "You've been here since morning. You'll burn out.""One more table," I smiled weakly. "Then I'm out."The truth was that I was not going home. Instead, I was headed to Cole's. My fiancé. My soon-to-be husband in eight months—if everything goes according to our plans. The thought had come to me between lunch break bites. I would cook him dinner. Surprise him. We hadn't spoken in days, and I felt guilty. One job had led to the other, and he'd been distant lately. Tired. Busy. The same excuse that was familiar to me.When I arrived at his apartment, it was 9:06 p.m. The corridor smelled like Chinese takeout and orange juice. The bag of groceries was balanced on my hip. My heart was full of excitement. He hadn't responded to either of my texts, but that was to be expected. He must
