Seth’s POV

“I’ll pas..”

Before I could answer he snatched my hands and shoved me against the wall.

“Let go of me!!”

That smile again.

“I held back yesterday when you said you had a disease but I guess that’s a lie too.”

“Wha—what do you mean?” I started out but my voice disappeared.

I knew exactly what he meant.

He let out a quiet laugh. I didn’t try to struggle, I was at a disadvantage here.

“It wouldn’t hurt to play with you a little.”

Play?

This degenerate.

No. I wasn’t going to give him the reaction he needed so bad. I wouldn’t let him get to me.

“At least let me go.” I sighed. “You’re hurting me.”

“Not yet.”

He flipped me over.

“Why were you in the Palace?” He asked. “Were you sent to kill me last night?”

I didn’t respond.

Not because I was afraid.

A test.

He suspects something.

“I work as the king’s aide.” I replied.

“Then how come I haven’t heard of you. With looks like these you certainly won’t be easy to forget.”

“I was just appointed.”

He stayed quiet for a moment.

“Fair.”

“Now let me go.”

“Not yet. I’m not done.”

What else could he want to ask about?

What the hell was he trying to do?! I flinched as I felt his hands going beneath my clothes.

“IF YOU TOUCH ME, I’LL KILL YOU!!”

He laughed.

“Not yet.” He said suddenly letting go of me. “Let’s see if your King agrees to my terms. We have plenty of time.”

A cold feeling settled in my stomach.

“What terms and what happens if he doesn’t agree?”

“Then Velmora will experience the same fate as Tarn and Veyra.” He replied firmly.

“I don’t care about them right now, what happens to me?” I muttered, rolling my eyes. “You can’t just keep me here forever.”

He looked at me like that wasn’t what he expected me to say then laughter broke out from him immediately. “You’re really something, aren’t you?”

“I can’t stay here.”

“Well let’s pray your King agrees.” He said as he left.

The moment he left I knew he was serious. He wouldn’t spare Velmora. What exactly did he ask from Elias?

For two days, it was the same.

No response. He didn’t visit.

That meant Elias hadn't accepted his terms.

It was just the usual routine.

This empty cell.

Bad food.

Silence.

By the Third day, I couldn’t take it anymore. I became restless. I tried to talk to the guards outside to explain what’s going on but they ignored me.

“I heard Velmora’s king finally accepted to marry His Majesty.” One whispered.

“How can two men get married?” The order laughed. “Maybe Vaelor is a bigger disgrace than I thought.

So that was it.

That pervert was even more disgusting than I imagined. What exactly does he have planned?

After an hour, I heard the guards coming in.

“Looks like you’re free to go,” One said. “You’d have to thank your princess when you get home.”

“One wrong move and we cut your legs off.” The taller guard muttered as he unlocked the cell.

“Liar.” I hissed.

“Move with others.” The shorter one said, shoving me outside where I saw other people that were held hostage.

“MOVE!” He barked.

We started moving in line. If Cassian saw me in this situation he’d probably run mad. It looked like we were being led back to Velmora.

The guards were on horses while we walked.

After two hours, we finally got to Velmora.

“Bastard.” I cursed under my breath as I looked at the damages he caused. Everything was burnt to crisp.

The palace doors were already open. That alone told me something was going on inside.

Velmora guards stood by the entrance but their heads lowered while Kaelor soldiers filled the halls like they owned the place already.

Which at the looks of it, they did.

“Tsk. Spineless Cowards.” I heard a Kaelor soldier hiss.

“Keep moving.” The guard behind me shoved my shoulders.

The deeper we entered the palace, the more my stomach tightened.

I hate him.

I’ll make him pay.

There were no servants rushing around. No minister arguing.

Nothing.

Just silence.

Fear.

As we stepped into the throne room, I understood what was going on more.

They held hostages for Elias' hand in marriage.

Vaelor stood by the throne dressed entirely in black. That smirk on his face boiled something inside me.

“Just as I promised,” He said smoothly. “The remaining of Velmora after the alliance.”

Elias sat stiffly on the throne beside him. As much as he tried to hide it, I could see it. He was trembling and I knew Vaelor could see it too.

He wanted to kill Vaelor as much as I wanted to.

Cassian stood behind him silently but the moment he saw me, his fist tightened.

“We leave for Kaelor in two days.” He continued.

“I can’t leave my kingdom!” Elias snapped. “You got what you wanted. I married you.”

“Well it’s now my kingdom.”

“This was not what we talked about.” Elias murmured.

Vaelor smirked. “Kaelor has enough space for everyone and it’s not like you have a say now.”

I clenched my fists. The arrogance in his voice disgusted me. Whispers filled the room.

“Good choice Your Majesty.” Everyone turned to look at the person that just spoke.

Elder Valen.

Something about him never sat right with me.

“After all, Velmora is now Ashes.” He continued.

I wonder whose fault it was.

“See?” Vaelor said flatly. “You have good ministers.”

His gaze swept across the room before landing on me.

Then he smiled again.

Disgusting tyrant.

What the hell was on his mind?

“That’s all for today. I’m tired.”

The ministers bowed immediately as he left the hall.

Cowards.

I looked towards Eliot. His face had gone pale as he sat on the throne, his fists were clenched so tightly that I thought his nails would pierce his skin.

Good.

At least he hated this as much as I do.

“WE HAVE TO KILL HIM!” Elias snapped immediately and pushed his door open. “Seth, we need to do something before he finds out.”

“He won’t.”

“What if he already knows?” Elias muttered, his fingers trembling.

“You’re the king and you’re shaking because another man cornered you?!” I thundered.

Elias had always been soft but seeing him startled by that man stirred something in me.

“I’ll get rid of him,” I turned my head to the other side of the room very slowly. “I have a plan.”

“Well?” He asked.

“You’ll keep up with your own part of the deal you made with him,” I swallowed. “I’ll get close to him.”

“And?” He whispered, his voice breaking.

I looked towards the dark window.

“I’ll kill him.”

Women thanked him, old men praised him. Disgusting.“People really love heroes, don’t they?” I muttered.Cassian glanced at me. “I don’t think approaching him would be a wise thing to do. Before he could disappear into another street, I called out.“The People’s hero.”He stopped.“You again.” “Disappointed?”“No. Just surprised.”I folded my arms. “We weren’t done talking.”“What do you want to talk about? Probably why Vaelor is keeping me around?”I understood why Vaelor kept him around. Not only was he strong but smart too. “You are sharpe

Seth’s POV “Don’t, don’t run, you RASCAL!”I heard Queen Mother Sareaphine shout from my chambers. At least she isn’t in the worst place right now. She had few children from the Vaelor’s concubines to keep her company. She seemed to be adapting to the changes well but I knew she had something up her sleeves. She always does. She wouldn’t sit like this while the kingdom she’s worked so hard for trembles at the sight of one man.If even Elias knows then Vaelor probably knows too. He must be keeping a close eye on her.Vaelor.The thought of him reminded me of our encounter the day before and embarrassment kicked in.“Get a grip!” I pinched myself so hard my skin turned red.I tried to move and I was HARD.Hard? Just because I thought of him? “I can’t be tainted by that man’s barbaric behaviors right?” I asked myself as I looked down.A knock.I jumped.“W-who’s that?” I asked, covering myself with the sheets.“It’s me, Your high- Seth.”Since I noticed Vaelor’s people were always kee

Seth’s POVThe moment we left the meeting room, Elias exploded.“That man is insane.”I ignored him. My mind was everywhere. Everything was happening too fast and it was not a good sign. The letter. The seal. The Silver Dragon.Someone knew. Someone had known long before the prophecy descended from the heavens.Someone had been watching me for years. The same person who sent that maid.My stomach tightened.“Elias.”“What?”“Think.”He looked at me confused. “About what?”“The Elder.” I stopped walking. “I think it’s Valen.”“You don’t know that.” He replied.“I do. This is too much of a coincidence.”Silence followed. Even Elias looked unsettled for once.“Do you really think it’s him?” He asked.I don’t know.”That was a lie.I was certain. Ever since arriving in Kaelor, Valen had shown too much interest in me. The threat. The smiles. The old fox knew something. The question was how much. “I will have him executed.” I stared at Elias then laughed. “What?” He rolled his eyes.“

Dangerous.“Elias, just go.” I sighed. His head snapped towards me. “What?” “I’m sorry, Your highness but if His Majesty wanted you dead, you’d already be dead.” “I know. I just hate the idea of him bossing me around.”“I know.” He cursed under his breath before standing. Fren stepped aside immediately. “His majesty requested the aide as well.”Of course he did.“Wonderful,” I muttered. The meeting wasn’t held in the throne room or the the council chambers, which made me suspicious. Fren led us through a section of the palace I hadn’t seen before.Dark corridors. Stone walls. No servant. No guards.Just silence.Silence reminded me of locked doors.Of darkness.Of waiting. My fingers twitched, Cassian noticed as always. His hands brushed mine softly.A reminder that he was with me. Seth’s POVEvery time I closed my eyes, I remembered his hands. which was infuriating because I wasn’t sure it happened. The worst part wasn’t that I remembered, it was that I wasn’t sure I hated it.“I must be going crazy. It must be the Aphrodisiac.” I said quietly.“You must like the red roses?” I lifted my head. A man I’ve never seen in the palace stood in front of me. “What?” I asked, confused.“The roses. You must like them.”I looked at the roses, I must have been staring at them for a long time.“No. I hate roses. I prefer lilies.”He burst into laughter. “You were lost in thought then. My apologies.”I didn’t respond, I just stared as the sun hit his brown skin. He looked delicate but he wasn’t. “Who are you?” I finally asked.“Excuse my manners. I’m—”“I help you last night and you didn't even come to thank me.” Vaelor interrupted. “I see you’ve met my Veyra warrior, Ryn.”Veyra? I thought he wiped the whole of Veyra? Seth’s POVThose eyes that crawled under my skin as I looked through the shadows all through these years. Something about him never sat well with me, his fox-like eyes. Even if he looked clean, I couldn't help but suspect there’s something rotten under his skin.“Is there anything I may help you with, Elder Valen?” He finally stepped out of the shadows. “It appears I lost my way.” This old fox.“Mhm-hm.” He didn’t respond for a moment but when he did, his voice was quieter. “How is it possible I didn't know about the king’s new mysterious aide?”Suspicion. I guess it is only right that I raise suspicion among the elders. A weird man suddenly cozying up to the king was no joke.“The lie about being lost almost got me.” I murmured, turning my back on him.“I’m curious.”“Well, I’m the son of a distant cousin of the queen mother.” I lied, with a smile on my face.“I know of all her relatives but how come I haven’t heard of you?” He replied calmly, though his voice showed he didn’t be
