Seth’s POV

“THE SILVER DRAGON SHALL BE AWAKENED AND THE HOPE OF MANKIND SHALL BE DESTROYED.”

I couldn’t stop thinking about what Cassian said as I walked around the palace. Compared to the monster he was, his palace was quite warm.

I couldn’t care less if anyone in Velmora found out about me, I could just take them out but not in Kaelor. I shouldn’t act rashly here.

Damn the heavens and their bullshit about mankind. Destroyed? With what power? A sealed power?

“I guess you’ve heard about the prophecy.” Queen mother Seraphine broke the silence.

“I hope you regret showing yourself to the public now? You should have just stayed hidden.” She said, stroking my hair.

Seraphine might sound harsh but I knew she always had the best for me in heart. She was the mother I never had.

“I’m not bothered about some stupid prophecy.”

“Well you should be,” she said flatly. “That man is now in charge. He will look for answers.”

“He’s not in charge.”

As much as I tried to deny it, I knew he was.

“Reckless! You are too reckless!” She gritted her teeth.

I looked around to see if anyone was close to hear but the coast was clear.

“Poison?” Seraphine whispered shakily. “You intend to kill that man with poison?”

“I will get him next time.”

“What if there’s no next time? If it was that easy to kill him then perhaps Tarn and Veyra would still be here.”

I exhaled sharply. She was right.

He wouldn’t be so easy to get rid of.

“Well good thing I’m not them. I will kill him.” I replied

I had no idea how but it was going to happen.

“Good. Because that man is your only way to freedom.”

“What do you mean?” I asked.

The look in her eyes wasn’t good.

“I received another prophecy.”

What was with these prophecies going around?

“The only way to end this is to kill the silver dragon.”

“Kill me?” I huffed.

“You need the heart of a normal dragon to be normal.”

“Why did you and Father keep me alive?” The question slipped from my lips, interrupting her.

She blinked. “I wanted to kill you. It was your father, he said he saw the power you held and he knew it would bring down the heavens one day.”

“But that wasn’t why I changed my mind,” she continued. “Y—you looked normal. I just wanted you to live.”

Live? How can a life of hiding in the shadows while your brother takes what is rightfully yours normal? I wanted to scream that out loud.

“So I need his heart to live a normal life.”

She nodded.

I hated the idea of Vaelor being the key to living a normal life.

But the idea of watching him suffer while I take out his heart comforted me a bit.

“And one thing,” she said as I turned to leave. “Do not fall for him.”

Then—

I stopped.

I tried to speak. How could she think I’d fall for a man? A man like Vaelor at that?

“I won’t.” I finally found my voice.

I walked out of there to go meet Elias. Since the poison incident, I haven’t spoken to him and it would only look suspicious if his so-called aide isn’t anywhere close to him.

Kaelor soldiers stood at every corner.

Waiting.

Watching.

Listening.

It annoyed me. I hated the feeling of being trapped by that man.

I hated the power it gave him.

“I am not going to any party! That man wants to disgrace me further!” I heard Elias scream as I opened the door to his chambers.

“Consummate this union?! Union my foot!” He shouted.

“What’s going on?” I asked Cassian who seemed to be enjoying the situation.

“Your highness. The tyrant had just asked your brother to attend a party tonight.”

“Anddddd.”

“And they’re to consummate their marriage after the party.”

I nearly let out a laugh.

“Seth, Seth help me. I can’t possibly let that man touch me.” Elias rushes to me. “Do something.”

“Calm down. Stop squirming.”

“I can’t. Have you seen the way men leave his room every night after his stupid parties.”

“So you aren’t scared of what both of you are supposed to do but how wrecked you’d be afterwards?” I teased.

Laughter breaks out from Cassian and Elias' personal guard, Lister. Elias turned to them, fury twisting his face. “I’m sorry. Perhaps you could show us what’s so funny.”

“Come on now. Nothing would happen to you.”

“You don’t know that.” He snapped.

“Because we’ll be right next to you.”

The party was unbearable. The sight of Elders kissing up to Vaelor made it worse.

I stood behind Elias, watching as he gulped down every drink Vaelor sent his way.

Idiot.

I looked across the hall, Vaelor sat lazily on the throne like a chair placed at the head of the room.

He looked bored. Like he was waiting for something. Those golden eyes drifted across the crowd.

Then landed on me.

Again.

I looked away first.

“I need fresh air. Don’t bother following me.” I mouthed to Cassian.

He nodded.

The garden had become one of my favorite places to be in the palace, so it was the only place I could think of going to.

But—

I stopped walking, and took a deep breath. Someone was following me. I could feel it.

Vaelor? No. I’ve heard too many encounters with him not to recognize his footsteps.

For a moment, I just stood there, waiting to stab this stalker the second he made a move. My fingers tightened around the dagger hidden beneath my sleeve.

A faint tremor ran through them.

Annoying. I clenched my jaw and curled my hand into a fist until the shaking stopped.

The footsteps drew closer.

Once.

Twice.

Slow. Unhurried. My shoulder stiffened. That familiar uneasiness. Something about those footsteps crawled beneath my skin.

I knew who it was immediately without turning.

Elder Valen.

SETH’S POVRyn was interesting. Too interesting. He had a secret and Vaelor knew it. That was how he was able to hold him down.A dangerous secret.Which meant I needed to know everything about him.The crowd finally dispersed after the child was taken away. Women thanked him, old men praised him. Disgusting.“People really love heroes, don’t they?” I muttered.Cassian glanced at me. “I don’t think approaching him would be a wise thing to do. Vaelor kept him for a reason.”“Exactly. That is why I have to make a move.” I replied. “Keep an eye on him.”“We have to go back.” “Not yet.” I saw Ryn slip through the crowd exhausted. Before he could disappear into another street, I called out.“The People’s hero.”He stopped.“You again.” “Disappointed?”“No. Just surprised.”I folded my arms. “We weren’t done talking.”“What do you want to talk about? Probably why Vaelor is keeping me around?”I understood why Vaelor kept him around. Not only was he strong but smart too. “You are sharpe

Seth’s POV “Don’t, don’t run, you RASCAL!”I heard Queen Mother Sareaphine shout from my chambers. At least she isn’t in the worst place right now. She had few children from the Vaelor’s concubines to keep her company. She seemed to be adapting to the changes well but I knew she had something up her sleeves. She always does. She wouldn’t sit like this while the kingdom she’s worked so hard for trembles at the sight of one man.If even Elias knows then Vaelor probably knows too. He must be keeping a close eye on her.Vaelor.The thought of him reminded me of our encounter the day before and embarrassment kicked in.“Get a grip!” I pinched myself so hard my skin turned red.I tried to move and I was HARD.Hard? Just because I thought of him? “I can’t be tainted by that man’s barbaric behaviors right?” I asked myself as I looked down.A knock.I jumped.“W-who’s that?” I asked, covering myself with the sheets.“It’s me, Your high- Seth.”Since I noticed Vaelor’s people were always kee

Seth’s POVThe moment we left the meeting room, Elias exploded.“That man is insane.”I ignored him. My mind was everywhere. Everything was happening too fast and it was not a good sign. The letter. The seal. The Silver Dragon.Someone knew. Someone had known long before the prophecy descended from the heavens.Someone had been watching me for years. The same person who sent that maid.My stomach tightened.“Elias.”“What?”“Think.”He looked at me confused. “About what?”“The Elder.” I stopped walking. “I think it’s Valen.”“You don’t know that.” He replied.“I do. This is too much of a coincidence.”Silence followed. Even Elias looked unsettled for once.“Do you really think it’s him?” He asked.I don’t know.”That was a lie.I was certain. Ever since arriving in Kaelor, Valen had shown too much interest in me. The threat. The smiles. The old fox knew something. The question was how much. “I will have him executed.” I stared at Elias then laughed. “What?” He rolled his eyes.“

Seth’s POV“I don’t have to answer everytime your king calls for me.”The room fell silent. The atmosphere shifted. Heavy. Dangerous.“Elias, just go.” I sighed. His head snapped towards me. “What?” “I’m sorry, Your highness but if His Majesty wanted you dead, you’d already be dead.” “I know. I just hate the idea of him bossing me around.”“I know.” He cursed under his breath before standing. Fren stepped aside immediately. “His majesty requested the aide as well.”Of course he did.“Wonderful,” I muttered. The meeting wasn’t held in the throne room or the the council chambers, which made me suspicious. Fren led us through a section of the palace I hadn’t seen before.Dark corridors. Stone walls. No servant. No guards.Just silence.Silence reminded me of locked doors.Of darkness.Of waiting. My fingers twitched, Cassian noticed as always. His hands brushed mine softly.A reminder that he was with me. I swallowed as the feeling slowly disappeared.Few moments later we stopped be

  • The Tyrant’s hidden king   Chapter 7- Watching eyes.

Seth’s POVEvery time I closed my eyes, I remembered his hands. which was infuriating because I wasn’t sure it happened. The worst part wasn’t that I remembered, it was that I wasn’t sure I hated it.“I must be going crazy. It must be the Aphrodisiac.” I said quietly.“You must like the red roses?” I lifted my head. A man I’ve never seen in the palace stood in front of me. “What?” I asked, confused.“The roses. You must like them.”I looked at the roses, I must have been staring at them for a long time.“No. I hate roses. I prefer lilies.”He burst into laughter. “You were lost in thought then. My apologies.”I didn’t respond, I just stared as the sun hit his brown skin. He looked delicate but he wasn’t. “Who are you?” I finally asked.“Excuse my manners. I’m—”“I help you last night and you didn't even come to thank me.” Vaelor interrupted. “I see you’ve met my Veyra warrior, Ryn.”Veyra? I thought he wiped the whole of Veyra? Who was the man?“He was the one their cowardly king s

  • The Tyrant’s hidden king   Chapter 6- Aphrodisiac.

Seth’s POVThose eyes that crawled under my skin as I looked through the shadows all through these years. Something about him never sat well with me, his fox-like eyes. Even if he looked clean, I couldn't help but suspect there’s something rotten under his skin.“Is there anything I may help you with, Elder Valen?” He finally stepped out of the shadows. “It appears I lost my way.” This old fox.“Mhm-hm.” He didn’t respond for a moment but when he did, his voice was quieter. “How is it possible I didn't know about the king’s new mysterious aide?”Suspicion. I guess it is only right that I raise suspicion among the elders. A weird man suddenly cozying up to the king was no joke.“The lie about being lost almost got me.” I murmured, turning my back on him.“I’m curious.”“Well, I’m the son of a distant cousin of the queen mother.” I lied, with a smile on my face.“I know of all her relatives but how come I haven’t heard of you?” He replied calmly, though his voice showed he didn’t be
