"What do you want?” Valencia snapped, her voice was furious and annoyed. Dominic merely looked at her dead in the eye, his gaze did not falter as he replied softly, "What I have always wanted…” He left the last word that was lingering on his tongue unspoken. “…you.” Valencia Raskin was the archon alpha; the alpha of the alphas who reigned the Sricgis forest and all the packs in it. The werewolf population was dwindling and she had to find a mate…soon. Who would she choose? The supremely charming alpha, Dominic Castro, who also happens to be her best friend, or the infuriatingly handsome mage, Calhoun Hawthorne, who might have a solution to all her growing problems?
View MoreThe forest was filled with all sorts of creatures and insects that humans could imagine. It lay deep inside the mountains and humans were wary of it so much so that they even avoided glancing in its direction.
They called it the Forbidden forest and no one in their right minds even came near the perimeter. The humans went about their business eating dinner and getting ready for sleep; oblivious to what went on inside the large canopy of the dense trees.
Deep inside the forest, the scent of blood hung thick in the air. The night had gone eerily quiet as the five creatures were standing in a loose circle. They were oddly shaped- a cross between an orc and a goblin with limbs sprouting from their bodies at odd angles. Their eyes were mere sockets, lidless and black orbs and a slit for a mouth with a set of crisscrossed pincers and a long nose to complete their look.
They were the hycwens, a blood-thirsty race of wild and untamed creatures that killed for sport and ate anything that moved.
They peered at the one figure in the center with curiosity as if they were kittens amused at the sight of a mouse. One of the hycwens leered, "I hope it isn't chewy. The last one took forever to cook."
The figure in the center smiled, the long cloak covering its entire body. It crouched on the soil, peering through its hood at a short distance.A pair of werewolves was busy silently transporting a bunch of cubs away from the large tree that had hid them from the hycwens' site. But they had to hurry- it wouldn't take them long to figure out what or rather who was under the hood.
The person in the center took one last look at the retreating figures of the werewolves and breathed a sigh of relief. It had been easy to distract the hycwens with a sudden appearance, yet the hycwens were a notorious breed known for their bloodlust, though they were a bit dim-witted.
20 feet above the ground, the hycwens' mouths continued to bicker, "Is it dead? I wanted to play with it a bit.."
The person whirled around and stood on their feet in one swift move, discarding the hood.
"So, who wants to play?"The voice seemed to disturb the hycwens and they all turned to the person now standing in front of them. They were shocked to see a young girl standing in front of them. She was athletic, well-built, and looked barely in her early twenties, though she was 200 years old. Her tall frame complimented her piercing blue eyes and dark brown hair that came free of its clasp when she threw the hood to the ground.
She smiled at them sweetly, "What are we waiting for? Introductions?"
"Oh, no. It's a small rabbit. I prefer a healthy lion, lots of meat", said one of the hycwen as the others stepped back at the sight of the woman standing in front of them. She lunged at one of them, twenty feet in the air, and kicked at its neck that crunched like a twig. The hycwen's eyes rounded in surprise as if he was shocked to die so suddenly before he collapsed into a heap on the ground in a sickening thud.
The others took one more step back and she sounded indignant, "A rabbit? It’s the Archon alpha and I won't repeat."
The hycwens only blinked at her and peered at the ground to get a better look. One of them squealed delightedly and pointed at the girl, "Looks fresh enough to eat. And, I'm starving."
A fine line appeared between the brows of the girl who tried to fake being unaffected by the insult. She pouted her lips and said, "But, I wanna play too" as she tugged at the sleeve of a hycwen before swinging herself upon its arm and saying, "Catch me".
The other hycwen thrashed his club in the open palm of the one holding her. The hycwen that got hit, howled in pain as it proceeded to kick its friend by swinging its foot but falling down when it lost balance. "Stupid creatures" muttered the girl as her fingers curled around the large blade that she retrieved from the pockets of the hycwen that held the club. She pierced the blade through its neck as the remaining two-eyed her with a mixture of fear and curiosity.
A voice rang out from the ground as the girl peered below, standing on the shoulder of the hycwen that was beginning to lose its balance, its arms flailing around its neck as if it had been stung by a poisonous bee.
A timid-looking boy ran to the ground and put his palms around his mouth to shout something. "What?" She asked in frustration. Her senses were sharp but she was busy scrunching her face to keep the putrid smell of the creatures from entering her nose. She gracefully jumped down from the hycwen's shoulder as it joined the other one in increasing the mass of the heap on the land.
She looked at the heap and then the boy, "Goodness, the stink is overpowering. You saw that?"
The boy cowered and didn't dare look at her while nodding furiously. She looked behind to see the remaining two hycwens running for their lives. She called out, "Hey, we aren't done yet" and then shrugged watching the boy stare at the ground below. She growled, "What is it?"
The boy stuttered, "Archon Alpha Valencia...we have rescued all the cubs."
"Great."She yawned lazily and dusted off her clothes as the boy didn't move an inch. She raised an eyebrow, "Are you waiting for me to congratulate you on your job, Sam?"Sam only shook his head more furiously and the girl felt it would come off of his shoulders. "Then what?"
The boy spoke hurriedly, "D...Alpha Dominic has requested your time for a meeting tonight" before running away.
The girl cursed under her breath. "Here we go again."
Valencia let out a growl on hearing that. “How could you, Trecdor? She is a little girl…all these days…I have been living with the guilt of scaring her and it was you all along?” Trecdor spat at her words in disgust, “Trecdor? Do you dare call me by my name? Where is your respect for the Coven's head?” Valencia meanwhile kept glaring at him, “You lost it when you sent an untrained, tainted werewolf after my niece, you don’t have the right to that seat after what you have been doing to the humans…” Dominic tried to mind link her, “Keep him busy talking, I’ll try to untie the knots holding me to this filthy pillar.” She was startled to hear his voice in her head all of a sudden but Trecdor only took it as the reaction to his betrayal. To goad her further, he added, What use is she to me? Well, if she grows up and is capable of birthing a wolf then she may be of some use…if not, she is a burden on our community…like yo
After ensuring that the car was safely hidden out of view, both of them stepped out of it and peered through the gate.Luckily nobody had come running towards the gate when it had creaked loudly. So they believed that it could either mean that whoever was in charge didn’t think that anybody would show up or if they did then they wouldn’t walk out alive. After ensuring that nobody was around using their acute sense of hearing and smell, the two slowly edged inside. There was a lot of abandoned stuff littering around the open space so it proved to be effective in hiding. Thus, they used the empty drums and stuff lying around to hide them while carefully walking inside. The two werewolves kept inching towards the entrance that they hoped would be heavily guarded or at least tripped with wires. But to their surprise, again nothing obstructed their way. It was strange and both of them merely glanced at each other before walking
Running towards him, she turned him around and before he could react, she pulled him by the collar and placed her lips on his. Daniel had not expected her to have such a reaction and he was startled for a moment but soon he gave in to the feeling. He was afraid that she would shun him and was only around him for old time’s sake. The fact that she took the initiative to kiss him dispensed all the worries from his head. His arms went around her and he lifted him from the ground while kissing her back. Jenny smiled and a chuckle escaped her lips to feel him be so elated. His eyes were shining with joy and she could also see a tear or two though he was trying hard to not show it. “I love you” The words escaped his lips automatically and Jenny’s eyes mirrored his emotions. “I have always loved you, Danny,” Jenny replied and the two smiled again. “Now, put me down…” Daniel who was lost in the sensation of
As she kept thinking about this stuff, her feet automatically carried her to the headquarters. She walked inside the headquarters, climbed the stairs, and got to the upper floor where Daniel was sitting on the chair. He looked weak but not as exhausted as before. The guards stationed outside the room bowed their heads at her. “Has he eaten something?” One of the werewolves who were standing away from her bowed his head and answered, “Yes archon, we gave him food and he finished that reluctantly. In fact, he has been asking to meet you. But, we didn’t inform you because we thought it was too early.” She nodded her head in acknowledgment and went inside. Daniel was in a fresh set of clothes, probably Gerald had given her a new set. He even looked to have bathed and not as harrowed as the night before. Daniel had a notebook and a pen in front of him and appeared to be scribbling something. Seeing her enter the room, he got up from his seat and bo
The voice pained him and the icy tone with which she said that to him made him feel like he was punched in the gut. “Why are you doing this?” He asked in an anguished voice. She was still pinned to the bed and his hands were still holding hers. He tightened his hold on her and bent down again to say, “You don’t really mean that, you are saying that to get back at me.” Valencia kept looking at him with the same steady gaze, her eyes didn’t even falter for a second. She was proud of not giving away the roller coaster of emotions coursing through her. “If you think so…” Calhoun’s eyes grew darker and she hoped that he would get away from her the minute he realized that she wasn’t joking. However, he did just the opposite. Instead of getting away from her, he bent down and gave her the steamiest kiss ever. In one swift motion, he put his hands around her, pulled her in a tight embrace, and began eating her lips, devouring her
“Well let’s say fate decided to meddle with her life. She got separated from her parents and had to live on her own….but….she was a strong girl. As such, she decided to not let destiny decide the course of her life, thus she fought against all odds and became a queen from an orphan.” She gave a dry chuckle at that, “you make it look so effortless...” He responded, “I know it isn’t, but I didn’t want to go into the details of the pain and suffering of the girl, she has had her fill.” Valencia closed her eyes and replied, “Hmm…so, where is she now?” Calhoun looked at her face that was shining with innocence and pain. He wanted to kiss her so bad but didn’t want to take advantage of the situation. Thus, he answered, “She is ruling her kingdom all by herself.” “Oh, she doesn’t have a king?” “She could but she doesn’t need anyone I think.” “Well, everybody needs someone at one point or the other…” The words had tumbl
