Sarah's eyes welled with tears and Valencia looked around helplessly. She didn't know how to stop a child from crying. But she tried, "Sarah, you will one day be the bravest werewolf in the history of lycans."
Fat drops of tears splattered Sarah's cheeks, which she rubbed away with the back of her hand. "I promise that," she said as she looked at Valencia confidently. For some reason, Valencia wasn't angry with her. While her parents profusely apologized for their girl's behavior, Sarah didn't say a word and went back to studying the scenery outside the window.
Valencia chuckled as she could see the makings of a confident and badass alpha in little Sarah- a girl who had turned the lycan world upside down and established new rules for them. She could see herself in Sarah.
Gerald announced a minute later, "We have arrived."
Valencia was glad to step out of the car, the question asked by Sarah churning through her mind. She had practiced and rehearsed wh
The alphas sputtered as if trying to rekindle a dying fire. They eyed each other nervously and one of them tried sounding confident, “Ar...Archon alpha, it would be really kind of you, if you would let us receive the same benefit as your beta.” Valencia raised her eyebrow, “And, what is that?” “Rumors have been rife that your blood has been important in helping your beta find a mate and successfully have not one but three cubs. Something, we haven't witnessed in ages.” Gerald uttered a guttural sound but Valencia looked amused, “So you all want me to offer you my blood to drink and magically regain your virility?” The crowd broke into hysterical laughter as the man who had spoken up was reduced to mortal shame. It was a common saying that between death by a blade and death by mortification, one would choose the former. Dominic spoke when the laughter had died down, “Archon alpha, what my good friend tried but failed at communicating is that we
The werewolves looked at each other skeptically, nobody uttered a word as the hall had gone eerily silent. Valencia looked alarmed. Of course, she didn’t believe that Dominic would do such a thing. But now was not the time to give friendship a priority. She asked in an edgy voice, “I thought you could do better, Dominic.” Dominic met her eyes with a steely gaze. She knew he wouldn’t speak unless she made him respond to her. He was prideful in that way. He smiled unnervingly, “So, I see the archon alpha has come to a conclusion. I guess the verdict is out.” He looked at her as if to signal, Two could play the game. Valencia’s eyes raked him. She loved and hated him at the same time for being cheeky. Why did he have to constantly push her? If there was someone who was smiling it was Mark. He was practically gloating at the effect he had had on the meeting. He stepped forward, “Archon alpha, I think we should strip this bastard of all his
She saw Olivia huddled under the same canopy with Elvin and Tom. Olivia immediately rushed to her and began sobbing. Valencia tried to calm her down as she hugged her two kids. A silent question in her eyes, "Did you find Sarah?" was met by a shake of the head. Valencia felt disappointed in herself. She couldn't stand the look in Olivia's eyes. Why had she agreed to get the kids here? She scolded herself. A pair of hycwens heard the cries of Olivia and began approaching them. Oh no, thought Valencia. What was she supposed to do? The kids and Olivia were looking upto her for protection. And, there she stood unable to transform. No, she wouldn't go down without a fight. She ran away from the trees, hitting the giants with large stones, trying to divert their attention. "Here, you dimwits," roared Valencia as she assaulted them with rocks. The trick worked and not one but a large group of the giant hycwens spotted her. Shoot. She ran
The last time he had seen it, which was just a few hours ago before the hycwens attack, it had looked more like a scratch, but now it had deepened. “Wait, Archon alpha.” There was an edge of desperation in his voice that made her stop dead in the tracks. She meant to ask what the issue was but she saw his ashen face looking at her feet and followed his gaze. She looked at her feet curiously and then back at him, “I guess I got a new tattoo.” Valencia added offhandedly but Dominic closed the distance between them in three long strides and held her hand. “We have to go to the mage and meet him right now.” Valencia pulled her hand away from his grip and shouted, “Sarah is missing, do you understand that? I’m not going anywhere until I find her.” “Please try to understand, the wound-” Valencia pushed him away and growled, “The wound, the wound, the wound...is there anything else you talk about these days? Do you know what famil
Valencia gave him a cursory nod and spoke, “We just ended a small scuffle with the hycwens, we weren’t expecting the Coven head to grace us with his presence.” She said measuredly while gritting her teeth earning her a smile from the man. “Oh please, you know I have never been one to be asked for niceties, but every now and then there arises a situation wherein some ignorant cub steps out of line….as is evident in Sricgis.” Dominic walked inside to see the two talking and tried to small talk. He bowed his head low and said in a polite way, “Greetings, Sir Trecdor. To what pleasure do we owe your presence among us.” Trecdor’s eyes brightened to see Dominic and he got up from his chair and rushed towards him and embraced him. “How are you Dom, my boy? It is so good to see you again.” Trecdor’s back was turned towards Valencia so Dominic tried to ask her if everything was fine, trying to understand why Trecdor had suddenly shown up but sh
The other alphas and werewolves had been waiting outside the Round hall pacing nervously. Olivia was in tears and held Sarah close to herself, who was crying as well. Gerald hugged his family affectionately, the other two kids Elvin and Tom one each in his arm, their little hands around their father’s neck.“Are you okay, sweetie?” He asked Sarah carefully who hadn’t uttered a word since she had returned to them. There had been a look of shock on her little face followed by tears that streamed down her pink cheeks. Sarah didn't speak but continued to sob and Gerald looked at her worriedly.Had something shaken her to the core? Why wouldn’t she speak all of a sudden? While he shot worried glances to his wife, an announcement rang through the hall that was audible even outside.“All the werewolves are to come inside for an emergency meeting right now.”The voice of the Coven's head boomed through the ha
After Mark had said those words, the entire hall fell eerily silent. Never had the judgment of the archon alpha been challenged and never had someone spoken it out loud in a room full of werewolves. Gerald who had been standing silent the entire time clenched his fists and handed over the kids to Olivia. He stepped out from the crowd and asked Mark in a threatening voice, “How dare you even say those words? Have you forgotten the rules we abide by? Challenging the decision of the archon is a grave offense and the repercussions can lead you to lose your life.” Mark gnashed his teeth but instead of talking to Gerald, he walked forward and stood a little farther away from them both. Everybody looked at him with a mixture of surprise and some contempt. He looked at Trecdor and spoke, “Sir, the hycwens have been attacking our pack members for a long time but we always got rid of them. However, now since the birth of the cubs, they seem to have taken
Mark looked around at the group of werewolves, trying to sense the pulse of the room. Now that he had created such a ruckus he couldn't back away, not if he wanted to be known as a coward. His eyes trailed towards his pack that looked like they were confused as to what their alpha was doing. His eyes looked at them with a sort of silent communication, ‘For all of you and for the glory of our pack.’ He then looked at Valencia and Dominic who looked at him as if they would rip him apart then and there. Valencia took the first step and was about to advance towards Mark when out of nowhere, Dominic jumped in the air and changed into his wolf form. When he landed on the ground, he was on all fours, his greyish black fur strikingly contrasting to his emerald green eyes looking menacingly at the other alpha. Wasting no time, Mark too changed into his wolf form, a brownish furred wolf with black eyes staring at the other alpha. They both bared their t
