EMILY’S POV My breathing stopped as Dominic stared at me intently. I knew that we should not be in a situation like this and I knew that I should leave, but I couldn't get myself to move. “You can't do anything I don't want you to,” I said, but it didn't come out as strong as I wanted it to, it came out as a whisper. Dominic gave me a small smile. “I don't think I will be doing anything you don't want me to do.” He responded. Our faces were so close that I didn't realize that we had even moved closer to each other. Dominic was staring into my eyes intensely and I could see the burning desire in them. It did something to me to see that he wanted me. I was wrestling with myself. I knew this was a bad idea. Everything in me was screaming for me to run away. His gaze dropped to my lips. “Ti desidero così tanto.” He whispered in Italian. “What does that mean?” I asked before I could think better of it. “Are you sure you can handle it if I told you, princess?” His voice was low as he
EMILY’S POV “You don't really intend on staying here, do you?” I asked Dominic incredulously. It was the next morning and somehow, we had managed to pretend like the kiss last night didn't happen. Although, the atmosphere around us was still electric. “Yes, I do. How else do you think I can protect you? And you will come with me to Italy. I don't know how much longer this place will be safe.” Dominic said. “I already told you, I do not need protection. I can take care of myself.” I said strongly. “You are so stubborn. You do realize you can't hide out forever. Adam will find you and what are you going to do then? Huh? You have no weapon and Adam has men, you can't take them down alone.” He spat out. I glared at him. I knew he was right, but I also didn't like to be made to feel like I was weak and like I could not handle things on my own. “I can handle Adam. I've worked with him for a long time. I just need to clear my name.” Dominic let out a humourless laugh. “That son of a b
DOMINIC'S POV “So…” Emily said, breaking the silence between us. “About going to Italy… I don't think it is a good idea.” She said, I narrowed my eyes on her. “What do you think is a good idea then? Staying here and waiting for Adam to come and get you?” “You don't understand. I need to clear my name, and if I run away, then I look guilty.” She spat out. I gave a humourless laugh and I walked closer to her. “Have you seen the news lately? You fled arrest from the hotel. You already look guilty in the eyes of the public and you are in danger.” Her eyes filled up with tears, and for the first time, I could see the fear that she had been trying to conceal behind the wall that she'd built up. She's gotten so used to fending for herself that she doesn't know how to let someone else protect her. I moved closer to her and I brought my hands to her cheeks. “It's not safe here, Emily. Adam has very strong connections and he has a lot of people in his pocket. What I want is to keep you sa
EMILY’S POV We turned to look at Daniella who was smiling at us sheepishly. I felt the embarrassment creep up my spine. “Daniella, do you need something?” I asked her strongly. “Oh, I was making lunch. I just wanted to come and see if you wanted some.” Daniella asked. “Yes. I will be there to help you in a minute.” I told her and looked at her dismissively. She nodded and quickly rushed back into the house. “Well, that was interesting. Where did you get the girl from?” Dominic asked. He didn't look quite as flush as I did and I envied that. “At a bar. Some men were harassing her and so I helped her out.” I said simply. “And you trust her?” He asked sceptically. I shrugged in response. “She's harmless.” “You shouldn't be this naive. Never assume everybody is harmless just because they make you think they are not. You should have conducted a proper investigation on her to make sure that she doesn't work with anybody that is against us.” Dominic said. I knew h
EMILY’S POV “Look, we don't have time anymore. We have to leave for Italy. Someone keeps sabotaging my shipments and I know Adam is involved.” Dominic said. I shook my head. “Then you can go without me.” “Why do you always have to be so stubborn? You are not safe here and the only way to clear your name is by taking Adam's down!” Dominic barked out. “And what about Barry? And Anita? They both hate me. I don't want to be where I am not wanted because everyone thinks that I did something that I didn't do.” I said. His features softened. “I'll tell them what happened. Anita will believe me. Barry is not a problem, just ignore him. Look, stop looking for excuses. We have to leave right away and I am not leaving you here. It is not safe.” I knew he was not going to let it go and it seemed logical to go with him anyway. I could not hide out forever and to be honest, I didn't even have a plan. There was also a part of me that didn't want to be away from Dominic and that was what scared
DOMINIC'S POV “I was told you wanted to see me,” Barry said when he walked into my office. I glared at him. “What have you been telling my daughter about Emily?” I asked. Barry's jaw clenched and I could see his hands ball into a fist. “I've not told her anything that isn't true. That woman is dangerous and she is the reason for everything that we have been through. She should not even be here.” “How many times have I told you that I do not want my daughter hearing about anything that has to do with the business. Besides, what happened with Emily was a misunderstanding and I don't want you saying anything bad about Emily to my daughter anymore. She is going to be here for a long time and I don't want Anita acting out because of it.” I ordered. “I don't understand how you can trust that woman so much. Can't you see she is playing you? Your head is out of the game!” He yelled. I got up from my chair. “I think you have forgotten who you are talking to. How dare you raise your fucki
DOMINIC'S POV “I thought we had a deal, Martelli. All my goods are allowed to come in.” I said to the middle-aged man sitting opposite me in his office. Martelli was almost sixty, but he didn't look a day over forty-five. He had worked with customs for a long time and he and I have been good friends for over seven years. “We do. I tried to allow the goods in as usual, but there was a problem with the people on top. The people were alerted about the drop and they intercepted it. I got short notice and I could not do anything about it.” He explained, confirming the fact that I knew Adam had a hand in this. “Fuck!” I cursed. “Look, for now, I think you should lay low. No more drop-offs. My guy at the investigations unit said they have their eyes on you, and I don't know what sort of beef you have going on with the United States FBI, but they have it out for you.” “I know this. Look, just keep me updated on everything that is happening. I can't stop selling. I'll lose money each day
EMILY’S POVI knew it was a bad idea. I should not go to see Dominic, it would not end well for us, but a stronger part of me wanted to go. Would it be so bad to just give myself this one night? I looked at the time. I had just ten minutes to get ready. I got dressed in a simple pair of shorts and a cropped top. I didn't want to look like I was trying too hard. I knew that this was something that I would definitely regret, but I didn't want to have to wonder what would happen if I had gone. I walked the short distance to Dominic's room and I took a deep breath before knocking on the door. The door opened immediately, it was almost as though he had been waiting for me. “I thought you had changed your mind,” Dominic said softly. He was dressed in just a pair of grey sweatpants and he was shirtless. His perfectly sculpted body was in front of me, and I spent too much time looking at it before I finally looked up to find him staring at me intensely. “I uhm… was trying to finish up so
DOMINIC'S POV The car roared to life as I sped out of the driveway. I could not believe that Damien had managed to slip through our fingers again. We had been so close to getting him, I could feel it. Then he eluded us once more. One thing was for sure, I was not going to let Damien get away with everything he'd done. My revenge was on its way. Victor was already at the warehouse when I arrived. He and the rest of the guys were already at work trying to locate Damien. “Have you found anything?” I asked. “Nope. I'm trying to search through the different airlines to see if we can find something. We know that it is very unlikely, especially with the fact that he has Crowley on his side, that they might have used other means or changed their identities.” Lorenzo explained. “Also, there might be a mole. Somebody who let Damien know that we were on to him.” Victor said. The whole place went quiet. One thing I hated with a passion was a mole. Apparently, people had not learnt thei
EMILY'S POV I woke up to the soft rhythm of Dominic's heartbeat. His arms were wrapped tightly around me as though he was scared to let me go, scared that he would wake up and find me gone. The soft sheets tangled around our bodies. The air was thick with the remnants of the passionate night we'd shared. A night filled with love, desire and unsaid words. For the first time in days, I didn't go to sleep crying. Dominic stirred beside me and his eyes fluttered open. His fingers trailed up and down my arms softly. “Good morning.” He said, his voice husky and filled with sleep. “Not really. I don't want this moment to end.” I told him brushing a strand of hair away from his face. “Then it doesn't have to, we can make it last longer. We can enjoy the moment a little longer.” He said and pressed a kiss to my shoulders. I smiled up at him. We both knew that there was still a storm brewing. Daniella was still gone and Damien was probably somewhere planning to launch his next attack
DOMINIC'S POV “I like that she's doing better now,” Emily said after we left Anita's room and walked into ours. I held her hand and pulled her close to me. “I'm also glad she's doing okay. For a moment I was scared she'd never get back up.” She said, “She's a strong girl, I knew she would. And you? How are you doing?” “I guess I'm doing better too. It's still hard to wrap my head around, but every day feels a little easier.” She responded honestly. I pulled her into my arms and wrapped her in a warm hug. “Well, you know I am always here for you.” I pulled away from her and gave her a small kiss on the lips and was about to pull away when she pulled my head down and crushed her lips against mine. My body came alive. I'd missed her so much. It's been so long since we'd been together like this. “I missed you,” she murmured against my mouth. “I missed you, too,” I said and deepened the kiss. She jumped up and wrapped her legs around my waist. I pinned her against the door
EMILY'S POV The morning sun filtered into the room announcing the beginning of a new day. I blinked slowly and looked down to find Anita's small frame curled into me. Her breathing was soft and even her grip around my waist was tight like she was scared I would disappear. She'd come into the room the night before because she could not sleep. She didn't talk, she only laid in my arms and was quiet till we both fell asleep. I brushed a strand of hair from her face and placed a soft kiss on her forehead before lying back down. A few seconds later, Dominic walked into the room. He looked like he'd had a rough night and he didn't get enough rest. His eyes were red and he had dark circles under his eyes. “Good morning.” He said with a small smile on his face. “Good morning. Where did you sleep?” “On the couch in the office.” He said with a shrug. “Why didn't you join us? There's more than enough room.” I told him. “Yeah, but you both looked so peaceful I was scared that if
EMILY'S POV The rest of the days moved by quickly. We wanted to hold a small ceremony for Daniella. Dominic had her cremated so we could keep her with us, but we decided to hold the ceremony when everything had settled down. Dominic spent more time at home. When he wasn't out with Victor looking for Damien, he was at home. Anita would only speak to her father and eat when he was around. She had stopped crying, but she had not smiled even once. Her eyes didn't hold the same brightness that it used to have. It was like something in her had died along with Daniella and it hurt to see. I understood how she felt. “What are you thinking about?” Sofia asked as she walked into the room. I had totally forgotten that the door to my room was open. “Nothing really,” I told her with a soft smile on my face. She gave me a knowing look. “You know you can talk to me. I know things haven't been easy and I can see you trying your best to put on a brave face, but I see right through it. Victor
EMILY'S POV I was walking out of our room at the same time that Dominic was leaving Anita's room. His shoulders were sagged and he looked drained. His eyes were red from lack of sleep and they were filled with sadness. He looked like he was carrying the entire weight of the world on his shoulders. Our eyes met, and for some time, we paused. We didn't say anything. But the silence between us held so much meaning. It was filled with pain, agony, sadness, anger, guilt, fatigue and understanding. After a while, I reached for his hand and he took it immediately. He pulled me to him and wrapped his arms around my shoulders in a hug. My arms went around his waist and I buried my face in his chest with his face buried in my hair. There was no need to day anything. I felt the tension leaving both our bodies for a moment before we pulled away. “How is she?” I asked, referring to Anita. I had not seen her in a couple of days, and that was because I was too filled with my own grief; I fe
DOMINIC'S POV Early the next morning, I walked into Anita's room. She'd been hidden away there for days. She refuses to eat or talk to anybody. She spent most of her time crying. Emily was hurt, but Anita was almost broken. She didn't make friends easily and I suspected that it was because of this same reason—she could not bear the thought of losing them. Now she'd finally opened up herself to make friends and she'd gotten hurt in such a way that I wish I could shield her from. “Mi principessa,” I told her softly as I came to sit down on the bed where she lay curled up with tears streaming down her face. She didn't respond, she didn't even turn to acknowledge my presence. “Oh, honey. Please talk to me.” I pleaded. I brushed her hair softly. She still did not respond to me. “At least allow me to hold you,” I told her. She was quiet and I thought it'd be better to just sit with her quietly since she didn't want to talk. I just hated seeing her so filled up with grief. Just li
DOMINIC'S POV Emily's sob finally reduced into the soft breaths against my chest. I didn't move or speak, I just held on to her very tightly. I buried my face in her hair and breathed in the soft smell of strawberry that lingered in her hair. The silence between us was not uncomfortable, but it was heavy and necessary. It felt like there was so much to say, but we both were not quite sure how to say it yet. After a while, Emily shifted and she looked up at me. It hurt so much to see the pain in her face and the brokenness in her eyes. I wished that I could take the pain away from her and take it solely upon myself. “I miss her so much.” She admitted, almost like she'd been scared to do so all this while. “I know, Amore mio,” I said and bent to press a kiss to her forehead. I cupped her cheeks and pressed my forehead to hers. “I should have been there for her. I should have protected her better.” She said. I pulled away from her and searched her eyes. “Don't blame yourself
DOMINIC'S POV The weather was cold, I could feel it through my thick coat. I stood outside one of my new warehouses where we had set up a headquarters. Victor, Barry, Ezra and I were going through every single intel that we could find on where Damien could be. Guards surrounded the building and Victor's estate. We could not take a chance. It was frustrating not knowing where he was. It felt like he'd disappeared like a ghost, which was impossible. Nobody could delete themselves from the earth unless they were dead which I knew he wasn't. He was licking his wounds somewhere, giving himself time to heal before he emerged again. He and his accomplice Steven Crowley. He thought he could hide, but I was out for him and once I laid my eyes on him, I was going to end him. For the pain he caused my family, he would suffer, and in a way, killing Damien and Crowley was a way to redeem myself. I could see it in her eyes—though she didn't say it— that Emily blamed me for what happened and I
