Anna

The silence was deafening—until the sound of splintering steel cracked through the basement like a whip.

With a guttural snarl, the cage door exploded outward, bars twisted and mangled in every direction. In the center of the wreckage stood something that hadn’t existed only minutes before—a massive, ethereal white wolf, tall and broad enough to fill the width of the small cell. Her fur shimmered even in the darkness, stained with her own blood and trembling from her transformation.

Anna.

But not the Anna they had known. This was something ancient. Fierce. Divine.

Ethan gasped from his cage, eyes wide, his little body trembling—until the wolf turned toward him.

She moved slowly, carefully, lowering her enormous head until her glowing green eyes were level with his. She nudged her snout forward, letting him touch her. His hand trembled as it pressed against her muzzle, but his eyes softened the moment they connected.

“Mommy?” he whispered.

She blinked once.

Michael I stood just behind Anna, my hand gently resting on the small of her back. She hadn’t said much since Elias arrived, but I could feel her energy—taut, uncertain, yet resolute. Ethan lay peacefully on the couch a few feet away, curled beneath a blanket, thumb still tucked near his mouth, his stuffed dinosaur held tight to his chest. Anna’s fingers were laced tightly in front of her, knuckles white. Elias knelt beside Ethan. “He’s asleep enough,” he said, glancing back at us. “I can begin.” Anna stepped forward slightly. “He won’t feel pain, right?” Elias offered a soft, patient smile. “No. Just gentle whispers. His mind will be guided, not forced.” She nodded, but I saw her lips tremble as she turned back toward me. I moved closer, brushing her cheek with the backs of my fingers. “You’re doing this to protect him,” I said softly. “And I’ll be right here the whole time.” “I just hate this,” she whispered, blinking back tears. “He’s only five… I don’t want him growing up

  • The Unexpected Fated Mate   Chapter 22

Anna Back at the estate, the familiar gates opened as Michael’s SUV pulled through. The ride had been quiet, tense. Anna leaned against the window, her eyes on the passing trees, Ethan snuggled against her side, still groggy from the hospital and everything that had transpired. Michael sat beside them, unusually quiet—his thoughts clearly elsewhere. As they entered the foyer, one of the security guards approached and handed Anna her belongings. Her phone buzzed as soon as it landed in her palm—dozens of missed calls and texts. The screen lit up with names: Ally, Monica, Dawn. Her thumb hovered over Dawn’s name first. She stepped to the side, dialing as her hands trembled slightly. “Anna?” Dawn’s voice cracked through the speaker, heavy with worry and barely held-together relief. “Oh my God. Are you okay? Is Ethan okay? I’ve been going crazy.” “We’re okay,” Anna said softly, swallowing the knot in her throat. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.” Dawn exhaled loudly

Michael The halls of the pack hospital were quiet, but tension pulsed through every inch of me like a live wire. Anna still hadn’t woken up. I’d brought her here the moment we left the scene—wrapped in my coat, Ethan trembling beside her. He was in the room next door, being checked over by our pediatric specialist, who also happened to be a trusted member of my inner circle. My men—especially the two who’d taken a liking to Ethan—refused to leave his side. Their presence didn’t just protect him; it grounded me. But Anna… She was too still. She looked peaceful, but I knew the storm that must be warring inside her. That transformation—raw, powerful, unexplainable—had come out of nowhere. And now here she was, unconscious and silent. Dr. Hale entered the room, clipboard in hand, his expression unreadable. I’d known Hale for years. Trusted him more than I trusted most. He wasn’t just a physician—he was a scholar, a geneticist, and a brilliant mind when it came to supernatura

  • The Unexpected Fated Mate   Chapter 19

Michael Something was wrong. I felt it in my fucking bones. I’d told myself giving Anna space was the right thing to do. That a couple of days with Dawn would help her decompress. That I could be rational. Patient. But that tether between us—between me and her, and me and Ethan—was straining. Then it snapped. My breath caught, and my wolf howled in my chest. I reached for the mind link, searching for the guards I’d discreetly placed near Dawn’s. Silent. Nothing. Not even a whisper. That had never happened before. Panic—raw and untamed—gripped me by the throat. My fingers flew across my phone, calling one of my guards. Voicemail. Another. Still nothing. No one should’ve been able to take out my security team without alerting me. Unless— “Witches,” I growled, slamming the heel of my hand against the dashboard as I swerved through lanes, tires screeching. “They used a sleep spell.” That was the only explanation. I didn’t care that I was 50 miles over the sp

  • The Unexpected Fated Mate   Chapter 18

Anna The morning sun filtered softly through the large windows of Michael’s estate, casting golden rays across the living room where Ethan sat cross-legged on the floor, making dramatic sound effects with his action figures. Anna sat nearby, her legs tucked under her on the oversized sofa, sipping tea and smiling as she watched her son’s imagination run wild. She couldn’t help but reflect on the night before—the gala, Michael’s touch, the way he made her feel like she was the only woman in the room. He had looked at her with a fire in his eyes she’d never experienced before. A fire that warmed her and terrified her all at once. Her phone buzzed on the coffee table, pulling her from the memory. Dawn’s name lit up the screen. “Hey, you,” Anna answered with a grin. “Hey, stranger,” Dawn said warmly. “You alive? I miss you—and so does your tiny human.” Anna laughed. “We miss you too. It’s been a whirlwind. I was actually just thinking we could use a reset. Maybe a night or tw
