Aria Nightshade woke to pain.

Not the dull ache of exhaustion.

Not the lingering sting of memory.

This was different.

Sharp. Burning. Alive.

It crawled beneath her skin like fire, forcing her lungs to pull in air too quickly, too deeply. Every sound hit her at once—the crackle of wood, distant voices, the slow drip of water somewhere beyond the walls.

Too loud.

Too clear.

Her eyes snapped open.

Wooden beams stretched above her, rough and uneven, lit by a dim lantern that flickered against the walls. The air smelled of smoke, metal, and something unfamiliar—something wild.

Not the forest.

Not Silverfang.

Somewhere else.

Aria pushed herself upright—

Too fast.

Her body reacted instantly, balancing before the dizziness could take hold. Her breath steadied on its own, her pulse slowing unnaturally quickly.

She froze.

That wasn’t normal.

Nothing about this was normal.

“You’re awake.”

The voice came from the doorway.

Low.

Calm.

Controlled.

Aria turned sharply.

A man stood there, tall and broad, his presence filling the space without effort. His gaze was fixed on her—not casually, but carefully, like he was measuring something unseen.

Danger.

Her instincts screamed it immediately.

Aria slid off the bed, her feet hitting the ground with steady force. No weakness. No hesitation.

“What did you do to me?” she demanded.

The man didn’t move.

“Saved your life,” he said.

“I didn’t need saving.”

His expression didn’t change. “You were dying.”

“I wasn’t—”

The memory hit her.

The forest.

The pain.

The explosion of something she couldn’t control.

Her voice cut off.

The man watched her closely. “You remember.”

Aria’s jaw tightened. “Where am I?”

“Shadow Hollow.”

The name settled heavily.

Rogues.

Survivors.

Danger.

Her eyes sharpened. “Why bring me here?”

“Because you shouldn’t exist.”

Silence.

The words landed harder than expected.

Aria took a step forward. “Explain.”

Instead, he stepped closer.

Not threatening.

But not safe either.

“You’re an omega,” he said.

“Yes.”

“And yet you threw a grown rogue across a clearing without touching him.”

Her chest tightened.

“That wasn’t—”

“Normal?” he finished.

Aria said nothing.

Because it wasn’t.

It hadn’t been.

The man’s gaze darkened slightly. “Your wolf isn’t weak.”

“I know what I am,” she snapped.

“No,” he said sharply. “You know what they told you.”

The room went still.

Aria’s breath slowed.

Dangerously quiet.

“That’s not the same thing.”

Something in her chest twisted.

Uncomfortable.

Unwelcome.

But real.

“I’ve always been this way,” she said, quieter now.

“Then explain why your body isn’t reacting like an omega’s.”

She couldn’t.

Her pulse was steady.

Her strength—wrong.

Everything about her felt… different.

Stronger.

Faster.

Like something had been unlocked.

The man studied her reaction carefully.

“They suppressed you,” he said.

The words hit like a strike.

Aria shook her head. “That’s not possible.”

“It is,” he said. “And it was done deliberately.”

Her mind flashed—

Meals that always tasted slightly bitter.

Days she felt too weak to stand.

Moments her body had reacted faster—only for it to fade.

She had ignored it.

Because she had been told who she was.

Because she had believed it.

“No…” she whispered.

But doubt had already taken hold.

The man stepped back slightly, giving her space.

“Ask yourself something,” he said. “When have you ever felt completely powerless?”

Aria’s breath caught.

There had always been something.

Small.

Faint.

Hidden.

She had dismissed it.

Because it didn’t fit the truth she had been given.

“They didn’t want you strong,” he continued.

“Why?” Aria asked, her voice tightening.

His expression hardened. “Because whatever you are… isn’t normal.”

Silence stretched.

Aria’s chest rose and fell slowly.

Not weak.

Not broken.

Anger began to settle.

Cold.

Controlled.

“They lied to me,” she said.

“Yes.”

“They kept me like that.”

“Yes.”

Her fingers curled.

Not shaking.

Tightening.

“They made me believe I was nothing.”

The man didn’t answer.

He didn’t need to.

Aria lifted her head slowly.

Her eyes were different now.

Sharper.

Focused.

“What are you?” she asked him.

“Kael Varric,” he replied. “Leader of Shadow Hollow.”

The name carried weight.

Aria felt it immediately.

“And what do you want from me?”

Kael held her gaze. “Nothing.”

She didn’t believe him.

“No one helps for nothing.”

“Then consider this curiosity,” he said. “I want to see what you become.”

Before she could respond—

A sudden crash echoed outside.

Followed by shouting.

Urgent.

Fast.

Kael turned instantly. “Stay here.”

Aria moved before he finished speaking.

“I’m not staying anywhere.”

He didn’t stop her.

Instead, he stepped outside.

Aria followed.

The air outside was tense.

Rogues moved quickly, weapons drawn, their expressions sharp with focus.

“What happened?” Kael demanded.

“Scouts spotted movement,” one of them replied. “Silverfang patrols. Closer than usual.”

Aria went still.

Silverfang.

Her chest tightened—

Not with pain.

With something colder.

“They’re searching,” another rogue added.

Kael’s gaze flickered briefly toward Aria.

“They don’t search without reason.”

Aria understood immediately.

They felt it.

Or someone knew.

Her mind moved quickly.

If Silverfang had reacted this fast—

Then whatever had awakened in her hadn’t gone unnoticed.

A slow realization settled in.

This wasn’t just her secret anymore.

It was a threat.

Kael turned back to his fighters. “Fall back. Stay hidden.”

They moved instantly.

Disciplined.

Prepared.

Aria remained where she was.

Thinking.

If they were searching…

Then someone was afraid.

Her lips pressed together slightly.

Good.

Kael looked at her again. “You should stay out of sight.”

Aria met his gaze.

Calm.

Certain.

“No.”

A pause.

Then—

“Then you learn fast,” he said.

Aria didn’t hesitate.

Because something inside her had already changed.

“I won’t be what they made me anymore.”

Kael studied her.

And for the first time—

He nodded.

Because he believed her.

The air shifted suddenly.

Aria felt it before anyone spoke.

A presence.

Faint.

But familiar.

Her head turned sharply toward the forest.

Something was there.

Watching.

“Someone’s close,” she said.

Kael’s expression darkened. “Positions.”

Rogues moved instantly, vanishing into the trees.

Aria stayed where she was.

Listening.

Feeling.

Her heartbeat slowed.

Not fear.

Focus.

Then—

A figure stepped from the shadows.

Tall.

Commanding.

Unmistakable.

Ronan Blackthorn.

Everything inside her went still.

Not weak.

Not broken.

Aware.

His gaze locked onto her instantly.

Sharp.

Searching.

And something flickered in his eyes.

Recognition.

Impossible.

Aria didn’t move.

Didn’t speak.

Neither did he.

The distance between them felt smaller than it was.

Dangerous.

Charged.

Then Ronan’s expression hardened.

“You shouldn’t be here,” he said.

Aria tilted her head slightly.

“And yet… here I am.”

Silence.

Tension snapped tight.

Behind him, Silverfang warriors emerged.

Weapons ready.

Behind her, rogues waited unseen.

One move—

And everything would break.

Ronan took a step forward.

Aria didn’t step back.

Something in his gaze shifted again.

Not certainty.

Not control.

Something else.

“What are you?” he asked.

The question lingered.

Heavy.

Real.

Aria held his gaze.

And for the first time—

She didn’t feel small.

Didn’t feel invisible.

Didn’t feel like nothing.

Her voice was calm.

Cold.

Certain.

“I’m the mistake you made,” she said.

The words hit harder than any attack.

Ronan stilled.

Just for a second.

But it was enough.

Because in that moment—

He knew.

Something had changed.

And whatever she had become—

It was no longer something he could ignore.

Aria felt the power inside her stir again.

Stronger.

Awake.

Watching.

And this time—

She didn’t try to suppress it.

Because she finally understood.

They hadn’t just lied to her.

They had feared her.

And now—

They had a reason to.

The silence inside the hall was not natural. It was forced.Pressed into existence by expectation, by judgment, by the unspoken agreement that whatever happened next would not be questioned.Aria felt it the moment she stepped in.Every gaze turned.Every whisper died.Every presence in the room shifted toward her as though she were no longer one of them—but something to be examined.Measured.Decided.The council chamber had never felt this cold before.Torches lined the stone walls, their flames steady but dim, casting long shadows that stretched across the floor like silent witnesses. The scent of the pack lingered thick in the air—familiar, once comforting, now suffocating.Aria walked forward anyway.Step by step.Alone.No one stood beside her.Not a single voice rose in support. Not even those who had once called her Luna.At the center of the hall, the circle had already been formed.Elders stood in their places.Warriors lined the outer edges.Pack members filled the space in

  • The Unwanted Luna   Chapter Ten: The Survival Oath

The howl did not fade.It multiplied. One voice became many, layered across the distance until the night itself seemed to tremble under the weight of it. The sound rolled through the forest, striking the trees, the ground, the air—an announcement that could not be ignored. They were coming. Not as observers. Not as scouts. But as something far more deliberate.Aria stood still at the edge of the ridge, her gaze locked on the darkness ahead. The forest no longer felt like shelter. It felt like a boundary that was about to be crossed.Kael stepped closer to her side, his posture fully alert now, every muscle tense.“This is not normal,” he said, his voice low but firm. “Multiple packs don’t move like this unless—”“They’ve already decided,” Aria finished quietly.Kael’s jaw tightened.“Then we need to move,” he said. “Now.”But Aria didn’t move. Not yet.The wind shifted again, carrying more than just sound now.Scent.Dozens of them.Different packs.Different territories. All convergi

  • The Unwanted Luna   Chapter nine: The Stranger in the Dark

The night refused to settle.Even after the last of the foreign wolves had withdrawn from Shadow Hollow, even after the forest had swallowed their presence and stitched silence back into the spaces they left behind, something remained.Aria felt it.Not as a distant echo. Not as a fading trace. But as something rooted—quiet, deliberate, and watching. She stood where the ridge dipped into the thicker part of the forest, her gaze moving slowly across the darkened trees. The wind brushed lightly against her, carrying scents that shifted too carefully to be natural.Someone was still here. And unlike the others…This one was not trying to be seen.Aria didn’t move. She let the stillness stretch, allowed the tension to settle into her bones. Her senses expanded outward again, but this time she didn’t reach blindly. She followed the disturbance, the slight distortion in the rhythm of the forest.A presence that did not breathe with the land.A presence that watched without revealing intent.

  • The Unwanted Luna   Chapter 8:Shadows of Shadow Hollow

The forest felt different the moment Aria stepped back into it.Not quieter. Not darker.Just… aware.Shadow Hollow had always carried a strange kind of stillness, but now that stillness seemed to follow her, stretching and shifting as if the land itself were watching her every step.Aria moved deeper between the trees, her pace unhurried but deliberate. The night air brushed against her skin, cool and steady, yet beneath it was something else—something she couldn’t fully name.A presence.Or many. She paused briefly, her gaze sweeping across the shadows.“You don’t have to hide,” she said calmly.Silence answered her.But not the empty kind. The kind that confirmed she wasn’t wrong.A branch shifted somewhere to her left.Too controlled to be wind.Aria didn’t turn immediately. Instead, she waited, letting her senses reach outward again.There.Three.No—four.Watching.Her lips pressed slightly together.“So they finally stepped in,” she murmured. From behind the trees, a figure eme

  • The Unwanted Luna   Chapter seven: The first Night Alone

The night did not feel like night anymore. It felt like absence.Aria stood alone on the ridge overlooking Shadow Hollow, the wind cutting softly across her skin as if testing whether she still belonged to the world she was standing in. But nothing answered that question. Not the trees. Not the valley. Not even the moonlight, which lay pale and distant over the land like something observing without care. She had been alone before. But this was different. This was not isolation by circumstance. It was isolation by choice she didn’t fully remember making. Behind her, Shadow Hollow stretched into silence. Kael had tried to follow her earlier, but she had stopped him.“This is not protection territory anymore,” she had told him. And he had listened. That was the strange part. People were starting to listen to her. Even when she didn’t ask them to. Somewhere far beyond the ridge, in lands she could not see but could still feel, packs were gathering. Not loudly. Not openly.

  • The Unwanted Luna   Chapter six: The Border of Exile

The first thing Aria noticed that morning was the eerie silence. Not the tranquil kind. The kind that felt… observed.Shadow Hollow had never been noisy, but today even the breeze seemed to tread carefully, as if it wanted to avoid disrupting something hidden. The trees appeared more still than usual, their shadows elongating over the forest floor despite the sun barely being up.Standing at the clearing's edge, Aria’s eyes were fixed beyond the treeline.Something was different. She felt it deep within her.Footsteps approached from behind her, moving slowly.Kael paused beside her, mirroring her gaze into the distance.“They’ve come closer,” he finally said.Aria didn’t look back. “Silverfang?”Kael hesitated before responding. “And others.”That made her blink in surprise.“Other packs?”“Yes.”The weight of that word hung heavily in the air.Aria released a slow breath. “So it’s more than just curiosity now.”Kael shook his head. “No. It’s turning into attention.”“And attention l
