CHAPTER 2: HER GRANDMA'S OPERATION
I rushed into the hospital, where my grandma transferred to see her and confirm if she was okay. I asked the nurse attendant if there is a patient name Amalia De Guzman admitted there. "Miss, may I know if there was a patient transferred here earlier name Amalia De Guzman?"
"For a while, ma'am, I'll check the records for the patients who are newly transferred." The nurse answered. Then she took some of the record books and checked in them.
After she checked it, she looked at me and said, "Yes, ma'am, it has. She was in the V.I.P room 206 located on the second floor."
I was so glad about what I found out, so I smiled at her and said, "Thank you so much, Miss."
I quickly run towards the elevator to go to the second floor. As I arrived at the elevator, I quickly press the button to open it. Then it opened. I hurriedly get into the elevator and push the number two button to the second floor.
In a couple of minutes, the elevator opened. Fortunately, I was the only person that got on, so it was easy for me to reach the second floor. At last, I arrived! I quickly searched room number 206 for what the nurse said.
Finally, I found the room where my grandma resides then I slowly opened it so that she will not be disturbed if she is already asleep.
As I opened the door, I saw grandma sound asleep while on oxygen. So I was complacent that someone would take care of her when I'm not around. Fortunately, our neighbor Ms. Belinda Reyes offers to watch over her.
The reason why Ms. Belinda offered to watch over grandma was that, according to her, she owed the life of her mother to my grandma back then. That time when no one helped them. My grandma was the only person who helps them with no demand in return.
"Ms. Belinda, how's grandma," I asked Ms. Belinda as I approached grandma and hold her hand.
"She's okay now; thankfully, someone paid everything and offers to transfer her to this hospital. Do you know those people, Alyssa?" Ms. Belinda asked me.
I don't want to let her know that I will get married in exchange for her life, so I lied to her and said, "It's my grandpa's best friend."
"It's a good thing that your grandpa had a friend who is kind and willing to help your family. Your family is so lucky, Al." Ms. Belinda said to me. I was guilty, so I just smiled at her and never say any word at all. Then I turned in her direction and said, "Ms. Belinda, can I asked you a favor?"
"Of course, what is it?" she asked me as she comes near to me.
"Hmmm, Can you watch over her until she gets discharge? Don't you worry, I'll pay you? I really need to take care of something, and also I need to focus on studying for our exam is fast approaching," I beg her.
"Oh, no problem, Al, as long as it's you and your family who will ask a favor, I'm willing to help, and you don't need to pay me. Okay," she replied to me as she smiles.
"Oh no, it's embarrassing, just let me pay you for taking care of grandma. I would be glad if you'll accept it as my gratitude to you." I told her with sincerity in my eyes.
"Oh no, you are a sensible child. Okay, if that makes you happy, then I'll accept it but remember I don't ask for it, okay?" she clarified.
I smiled at her as I answered, "Of course, Ms. Belenda, I will remember." Then she smiled back again and nodded.
"Creak...," The door opened. Ms. Belinda and I looked at the entrance to see who opened it.
A young lady appeared to us who was wearing a white scrub suit and approached us. It's the nurse. "May I know if who is the relative of the patient her?" she asked in a low tone.
"It's me; I am the granddaughter," I answered her quickly.
"Can you please sign this waiver so that she could be operated on right away?" the nurse asked me while holding a waver and a pen for me to sign.
"Okay, Miss," I reached out the waiver and the ballpen held by the nurse. Then I read the words one by one which was written and then I quickly sign it. After I signed the waiver, I then gave it back to the nurse. "Here is the waiver Miss, I already signed it."
"Okay, ma'am, thank you. I'll process this in the station, then after, we will be back here to get your grandma for her scheduled operation today, so please be ready." The nurse explained.
"Okay, Miss, thanks," I answered her as I nodded.
The nurse nodded as I thank her then she came out. I was very nervous while looking at my grandma knowing, that she will get operated on today. I have this mixed emotion thinking that what if she can't survive? What if she won't wake up anymore? But, I must be positive, whatever the outcomes are. I know grandma is a strong woman, and I know she won't leave me behind alone because she promises me, and I know that God won't allow it. She is a good person.
I was walking back and forth as I was restless. Then, suddenly Ms. Belenda holds my hand and stops me from walking.
"Al, take it easy, okay? I know your grandma will survive this critical situation. She's a strong woman, remembers? I know she can survive, be positive, and don't forget to pray."
I was so glad by the encouragement Ms. Belinda told me, so I hugged her tight and said, "Thank you, Ms. Belenda."
Ms. Belinda tapped my back and said, "You're welcome, Al, just be strong okay?"
"Okay," I answered her and nodded.
A few minutes later, the nurses and one of the surgical team members in the hospital came into the room carrying a stretcher. They were wearing a scrub suit.
They quickly took my grandma carefully and brought her to the O.R for a Heart transplant operation. I waited outside at the O.R as I was sitting at the bench with both hands clasped together, praying earnestly to God.
After eight hours of waiting, suddenly, someone opened the door at the O.R. (Operating Room). He was the surgeon the one who did the procedure.
His name was Dr. Albert Moreno. I then step forward to approached him and asked, "Doc, how's my grandma?"
I didn't blink while waiting for his answer.
"Don't you worry, Miss, your grandma is safe now? She needs to be transferred yet in the I.C.U (Intensive Care Unit). She needs to stay there for a few days, and after that, she will move to her room.
Then she will stay here in the hospital for a few weeks. It depends on her body; if she recovers fast, the better." He explained.
I was so happy that grandma made it, and God did not forsake her.
"Thank God grandma is okay, and thank you so much, Doc, for giving your very best to save my grandma," I said to him as I hold my tears to pour.
He smiled at me and patted me.
"You don't have to say thank you. It's my job to save my patient. You must be thankful to Master Lee. He was the one who helped us quickly find a suitable donor to your grandma."
As the Doctor walked away from me, I couldn't stop my tears anymore from bursting again because of what I found out today. I am grateful to him for saving my grandma's life, and with that, I became even more determined to keep our agreement.
CHAPTER 49: THE BLESSINGAlyssa was already lying on her bed and about to sleep when suddenly her grandma knock on her door. Even though she was lazy to get up because of her unceasing crying next to her grandma earlier, it still forced her to stand up.She opened her door. “What is it, grandma?” she asked.“You have a visitor.” Her grandma said. She was wondering why she had a visitor when she never expects someone. “Who was it, grandma?” she asked. Her grandma grabbed her and said, “Don’t ask anymore. Just come with me.” She did nothing but follow her. When they arrived in the living room, her eyes widened at what she saw. Her heart suddenly beats so fast. As if she couldn’t move. CHAPTER 48: HAPPY ENDING OR NOT?I saw him already dressed. My husband would surely go to the office. I wanted to approach him, but I did not have the strength to do it. I have no face to look at him, and I am ashamed of him especially, with Leonard’s brother, Ethan. For me, it was my fault why we lost our child. If I had just followed what Ethan told me. I would not have run over by the car. I am to blame for everything, but that is not what happened.I could see that my husband seemed to blame himself. I feel it. Every night in our sleep, I wake up hearing my husband crying. He was crying in his dream. Apologizing to our son, and worst of all, he always spoke to it wishing that it should be him. He should be the one who disappears, which further causes pain in my heart that seems to be slowly crushing my heart into pieces. It comes to where I could no longer breathe. For me, I am a useless wife. I couldn’t sleep every ni

CHAPTER 46: THE PAINFUL MOMENTLeonard was about to enter Alyssa’s room when someone called on his cellphone, so he didn’t enter first and answer the call. “Hello,”The man on the other line told him something. It was his trusted bodyguard, Joey. “Okay, Joey, thanks for the info.” And he immediately dropped the call.He searched in his contact list and was about to call her ex-girlfriend (Elena) when suddenly his phone rang and coincidentally it is Elena. He answered it immediately. “Hello, why did you call?” he asked her, pretending that he didn’t know the reason when in fact; he already had a clue why it called him. He just wanted to know if his ex-girlfriend will tell the truth.“Leonard, can we talk in person? I have a confession to you.” She begged.“Whatever it is, tell me here on the phone. Don’t you worry; I will listen to everything yo
CHAPTER 45: THE TRUTH BEHIND THE ACCIDENTElena was inside her color black car. She gets her cellphone that was inside the glove box of her car. Elena wanted to call someone. She dialed the number and immediately put the cellphone on her right ear.“Hello,” the number she was calling answered. It was a voice of a woman.“I was in the parking lot, as you instructed me. What now? Have you ever called his wife to see me? Did you tell her I was pregnant and Leonard was the father? Is she going to come here, or maybe you're just fooling me and waiting for her for nothing? I’m a busy person! I don’t want my time to be wasted!” she said to the person she was talking to on the phone.“Relax, my dear. Don’t worry, everything is in line with my plans, and she's on her way there.” The person she was talking to on the other line answered. Then she immediately dropped the c

Ethan went home to get dress and rest at the same time.About a few minutes later, James entered the room. He approached Leonard. "Leonard, your grandpa, and aunt are here. Should I let them in?" he asked Leonard."No, the noise might awake Alyssa. I'll just go outside. Please, watch her for me. I'll just come out." Leonard begged. James nodded to Leonard. Then Leonard went outside the room.James took place the seat where Leonard sat earlier. He looked at the woman who was his best friend claimed as his wife. When his eyes suddenly widened at what he saw.It was the girl he saw from the road soaking wet in the rain five months ago.
