Chapter 2

Mecael

When my father called me into his huge working place,I knew the news he was going to give me would take me on a swirl.

I knocked on the door twice and made my way in. He was seated behind his desk with his reading glasses on. He was not old and I knew his eyes were in great shape but he always insisted on the illusion of appearing old. So be it.

"Father? You called for me."

My father and I had a unique relationship. We would never sit down at a table for food together. We would hold guns at each others heads but neither of us was ready to pull the trigger and splitter the other person's brains all over.

He continued going through whatever the folders on his desk carried.

I sighed and took my seat.

I was going to be here for a long time.

He stach the folders together and placed them aside. He pushed his glasses down and looked at where I was seated.

"Ah. Mecael my son. I didn't see you there." He removed his glasses and folded them. He placed them on top of the folders.

"Of course you didn't."

"What brings you here?"

"You called."

"Of course. So,as you know,I'm growing old and I plan on handing down the companies to either you or your brother."

"Why would you even consider him? He never comes home,he shows zero interest in the business and…"

"Because he exists."

I huff then cross my arms."Great."

"Yes. Great.'

"What is needed then? And I really hope it's not one of your stupid tests."

He laughs lightly. "My tests are not stupid. Look at how they have turned you into a man."

I seal my lips not wanting to take part in the conversation again.

"Okay. I'll tell you what you need to do." I uncrossed my arms and leaned forward. "Get married." He stated finally. The statement rolled out of his lips simply.

"You gotta be kidding me!" I jump to my feet. He picks up glasses and wears them. He stands and walks around the desks. He stood before me.

My green eyes pierce into his brown ones where he stood five inches shorter than me.

"What do you mean get married dad?"

I knew what he meant. My dad has always had this crazy ideology. Simply put;a king cannot rule without a queen.

"You know the ring and wedding stuff."

He had to be joking.

"I'm gay." I decided to take on another route. He was a placid man hence I could not anticipate how he would react.

He scoffs then takes out his glasses and wipes them.

"Then find a guy." He replies after much thought putting his glasses back on.

"What?!" My jaw drops. How could I find a guy if I was not even gay.

He laughs, making me frown.

"Don't gay guys marry men?" His eyes travel to the right. He was thinking. "Pretty sure I keep up with the trends."

I swallow hard and frown deeply." Dad…"

"You are not gay son and If you were then you'd be excited when I accepted you for who you are."

He moves closer to me and taps my shoulder, finally gripping it tightly.``Now,go get yourself a woman to marry. One month Mecael. One month and it all goes to your brother." His voice was low, brown eyes piercing through to my soul.

He walks out leaving the door open.

That was a sign for me to leave his office.

I get into my black Mercedes.

"Drive." I ordered the driver.

"Where to sir?" He asks meekly. I had already fired the other one but my father demanded that this one stays. If I fire him then I'll be driving myself everywhere.

I groan at the fact that people cannot read my mind.

"The Blue Wave casino." I replied with my teeth clenched already feeling on edge.

We parked at the lot exactly thirty seven minutes later.

I sat in the lounge perturbed. If I don't find a wife in a month's time then dad's inheritance would be passed to my brother.

I finish my third glass of whiskey and turn my head to look for a woman.

A man tumbles over to my side.

"Hey!" He screams even though he was right beside me.

I raised my eyebrow at him.

"I'm Nikar. Mr.Nikar." He held out his hand to me. I don't take it.

"Well then…" he rubs his palms on his faded jeans. "Not a fan of handshakes." He laughs nervously.

"What do you want?" That came off as rude but I did not care.

"Offer. Yes,I have an offer for you. We play. You bet a million dollars and I bet the most precious thing to me."

Now I was interested.

"Deal." I did not wait to hear what his most precious thing was. I acted on impulse.

We drag off to the table.

10 minutes later

"No. No. This is not possible." The man shakes his head furiously. I cock my head to the right observing him closely.

He was short. Way shorter than my dad. His eyes pale blue and skin sagging. I was sure he had a gambling addiction.

"What's my price?" I asked groggily as I was already bored.

"She will hate me." He continues his whining.

Wait.

"She?" I ask straightening up.

"Aria will never forgive me." He does not bother to look at me.

"Your wife?" I ask my voice cold.

He shakes his head."No. Aria. My daughter." He looks remorseful.

I smile at that. I had just won myself someone's daughter.

"Please sir." In a second he was kneeling In Front of me, hands placed as if he was praying.

"Please. I….don't take my daughter. She is still studying...I'll…please" he starts to rub his hands furiously.

"You approached me, not the other way around." I turn to face him. "First wipe your tears. Your daughter would be embarrassed to see those streaks."

His palm quickly passes over his face, smearing the tears all over his cheeks.

I look at my watch." Your address." He quickly mutters his address.

I look at my watch. "I'll be over in two hours. Go break the news to your daughter." I stand leaving him kneeling.

_________

A knock is heard in my office.

"You called for me sir?" She asks striding to my desk.

"Yes, Mesta." I close the files I was pretending to be going through.

Mesta was taken in by my mother when her parents died. She has been our house manager. She was too stubborn to agree to be taken in as my sister.

"Everything alright?"

"Super. I need you to go pick up something for me."

"I'm not aware of any shipment that was coming in today."

Right. She was the one keeping track of things wherever I failed to be keen enough. Not that I was never keen. She simply exaggerated everything and put it as being a perfectionist.

"No. I need you to go get my wife."

"Wife?"

"Yes."

"But you don't have one sir."

"I just won myself one."

"No! You are not getting married."

I raise both my eyebrows.

"Sorry."

"Good. Take the men. Get her here today."

She bows. "The location?" I give her the address.

"Consider it done." She bows again and walks out.

Never thought getting a wife would be that easy. But to prevent my brother from taking over,I would do more than getting a woman to marry.
