Chapter 2

Author: Eirlys
After our destinations were chosen, my parents excitedly started planning what luggage and how much allowance to prep for us.

Lyra opened her account and hugged Mom's arm affectionately.

"I knew Mom loved me the most."

She asked me out of habit, "Carrie, what did Mom prepare for you?"

I checked my balance and replied dryly, "Just enough for three months' rent."

In the smallest apartment available, no less.

Lyra beamed instantly.

But she still tried to play the role of the caring sister.

"Mom and Dad were probably afraid you'd waste your money, so they transferred the bulk of it to me."

"They're planning to buy me a small villa in Silvermoon's wealthy district."

"And they even gave me an extra ten thousand a month for living expenses."

"If you ever want to come hang out, just let me know."

Mom affectionately tapped her nose.

"This money is specifically a reward for getting an A-rank. Just spend it on yourself!"

She turned to look at me.

"As for you, I can't even be bothered to talk about your barely passing grade."

"You've always been worse than Lyra in every way. Renting a place in a small pack is good enough, don't waste money!"

Hearing this, Lyra immediately shook Mom's arm.

"Mom, it's great that Carrie even passed! Stop nagging her!"

I probably should have hated Lyra.

She was so dazzling, so bright that everyone favored her.

But while Lyra would get petty over any attention my parents gave me,

She would also defend me when Mom scolded me, just like now.

It was a contradiction that annoyed me to no end.

Liam smiled and pulled out two gift boxes.

Mine held a phone, and not the newest model.

While Lyra's held a car key.

Lyra excitedly hugged Liam.

"Liam, I knew you loved me most! A limited-edition sports car!"

Kaelen chimed in, looking surprised.

"That car costs a fortune. Did you spend half a year's salary on this, Liam?"

Liam affectionately patted Lyra's head.

"No matter how expensive, I'd buy it for Lyra. After all, you're my little sister."

But I'm your sister too.

Why was my gift so cheap?

I had asked those questions with tears in my eyes far too many times as a kid.

To the point where now, I didn't even have the desire to open my mouth.

I shoved the phone back into my pocket.

Then I stood up and headed for my bedroom.

No one cared if I stayed or left.

Only Lyra asked, "Carrie, what's wrong?"

I paused and said I was tired.

From behind, I heard Liam complaining in annoyance.

"She always has that deadpan look, always walking around with a long face."

"Lyra, just ignore her and go test drive your car."

Kaelen chuckled in agreement.

"Yeah, Carrie is just weird. Total buzzkill."

I shut my bedroom door, completely blocking out their harsh laughter.

When I came out again, it was dinner time.

The table was covered with the vegetables Lyra liked.

But I liked beef.

I had compromised for eighteen years. I didn't want to endure it anymore.

"Mom, I want to eat beef."

Mom froze, then frowned.

"It was one thing to be a picky eater as a kid, but how are you still so demanding now?"

"Why can't you be more like Lyra? She's never picky, she's so easy to raise."

In that moment, I really wanted to say that Lyra wasn't picky,

Because Mom only bought and cooked what Lyra liked.

And she never cared about what I liked.

Maybe she knew my preferences, but they just weren't important enough to her.

But the words reached my lips and I swallowed them down.

What was the point of saying it?

Mom would only think I was being dramatic and always looking for things to fight about.

I glanced coldly at the spilled coffee on the ground. Then I looked up at him."Throwing a tantrum? I was an invisible ghost for eighteen years, and now I've completely disappeared just like you guys wanted. Shouldn't you be happy?"Liam was left speechless, then pointed at me in defensive rage."You're just selfish! Cold-blooded! I always knew you were unlikable since we were kids, and now you're even worse!""Lyra is so upset about you she can't even adapt to her new environment. Does your conscience not hurt?""That's her problem."I replied coldly, turning around to head upstairs without looking back."Also, if you put your hands on me or my things again, I'm calling pack security."Liam roared behind me, but in the end, he didn't dare chase after me.The third person to come was Kaelen. It was on a weekend night. It was pouring rain outside, but he stood out there stubbornly without an umbrella. Those eyes that once made my heart flutter were now red, staring dead at me."Carrie."

The first person to find me was Dad.Rumor had it he harassed the Elders for a month until he finally got my location. When I walked out of the training center, I saw Dad standing by the gate.We hadn't seen each other in only two months, but he looked like he'd aged ten years.Half his hair had turned white, and his back wasn't as straight as it used to be.The moment he saw me, his eyes turned red, and he hurried over, trying to grab my hand."Carrie! I finally found you!"I took a step back, dodging his touch."What are you doing here?"Dad's hand froze mid-air, and he forced an ingratiating smile."Carrie, come home with Dad.""Your mom cries every day. She's practically going blind.""Lyra is completely out of it too. The house is a mess."I stared at him coldly. "What does that have to do with me?""How can you say something like that!"Dad grew anxious, his voice rising."That's your family! You... you left in such a hurry, we didn't even pack your bags or give you enough money.

(Carrie's POV)The plane pierced through the clouds and landed in the North. As I walked out of the airport, the biting, frigid air hit my face.Taking a deep breath, I felt an unprecedented sense of relief.Like a thorn that had been lodged in my heart for eighteen years had finally been pulled out.Though it bled a little, it would no longer fester and ache.In the territory of the Bloodmoon Pack, even the air tasted of ice, snow, and freedom. When I arrived at the base with my suitcase, Beta Julian, the Alpha's right hand, personally greeted me at the gate."Carrie, welcome to the Bloodmoon Pack."Julian enthusiastically extended his hand."Thank you.""An S-rank genius! We've been looking forward to this! Come, your apartment is this way!"Because of my top-tier ranking, I was assigned a private apartment. It was spacious, bright, and from the window, you could see the distant mountains.I spent the whole afternoon decorating the place with warm tones that I loved.I put on brand-n

Mom snatched the paper. When her eyes landed on that glaring S-rank symbol and the familiar photo next to it, her vision went black and she swayed on her feet.It was real. The daughter she had casually dismissed with "poor ranking, go to a small pack" and "worse than her sister in every way"...Was actually the only first-place S-rank in the entire district! And her precious younger daughter's A-rank looked incredibly mediocre compared to an S-rank.Even worse, she had just been bragging to all these guests about how Lyra was the pride of the family. The surrounding whispers had now turned into biting mockery."That mother is way too biased. She has an S-rank daughter and doesn't even care?""If you ask me, she intentionally put Carrie down to lift Lyra up. Now she's made a fool of herself!""I heard they treat Carrie even worse behind closed doors—no allowance, and they made her sleep in a storage room.""I can't believe there are parents this biased..."Lyra's face instantly went de

And getting an A-rank this time—her future is limitless!"A man with a beer belly raised his glass to flatter Dad.Dad proudly threw his head back and downed his wine."Oh, it's nothing! It's mostly just her own talent. We parents didn't do much, just provided her with the best conditions we could!"Mom couldn't stop smiling as she affectionately held Lyra's arm."Lyra, that dress is gorgeous. Is it new?" an eagle-eyed aunt asked. Before Lyra could speak, Mom rushed to brag:"I just had a h
