HANNAH’S POV:

I rolled my eyes and literally ran away from him toward the door because I genuinely wasn't sure I could resist him for too much longer. Six months of marriage and he still affected me like this.

I heard him laughing even harder from behind me as I hurried down the hallway.

As usual, Elijah and I were the last ones to arrive at the beach. Everyone else was already seated at the beautifully decorated table, candles flickering in the gentle breeze.

We got situated in our seats,

This is where this book should end. The rest is superfluous. This storyline has so much promise, but the author delivered it poorly and brings in too many illogical twists. I understand this is the draw out the book to earn more money, but, I am out. It is now too much!

  • The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back)   Her Perfect Act

MARY'S POV:"Stop it?" Beatrice shouted back, her voice filling up every corner of the room. Her cheeks were bright red with anger, and her eyes were burning with rage. "You think this is embarrassing for you? When you lied to your wife, when you and your useless deadbeat father treated the woman who supported this whole family like garbage, you did not feel a bit of shame! But now that you are getting caught, suddenly you care about public places?"The words hit him right in the chest like a physical blow. I watched his face turn completely pale, all the remaining color leaving his lips. He looked like he had been slapped across the face with a truth he could not argue against. He opened his mouth to say something, then closed it again when no words came out."Mother, please list—""Do not you dare call me your mother!" She took a big step toward him, raising the heavy handbag over her shoulder once again. The leather was old and worn, the same brown bag she had carried over her

  • The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back)   No More Sympathy

MARY'S POV:The heavy leather handbag struck Alistair directly across his left shoulder with a deep thwack, making a loud sound that seemed to ring against the hard hospital walls for several seconds. He stumbled back a few quick paces, his arms going wide to catch his balance, his mouth hanging half open in total disbelief. His hand came right up to rub the sore spot on his shoulder where the bag had landed, and his expression quickly changed from complete surprise to something much darker and more angry. The blow had landed hard enough to leave a deep bruise on his skin through his shirt, and I was sure it was going to hurt for days. Beatrice had never been a weak woman, and when she got truly angry about something, she never held back her strength. His short dark hair was messed up from the movement, with a few strands falling across his forehead. He looked completely unraveled, his sharp clothes wrinkled, and the calm control he liked to show the world was suddenly tearing apart

  • The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back)   A Mother's Judgment

MARY'S POV:Her eyes turned cold as she looked at her son. I saw an expression on her face that I had never seen her direct at Alistair before. It was a complete disappointment."An old friend," she said again, weighing the words. "She injured herself while helping me and then you show up here with your wife, who clearly has no clue what is happening, and expect me to make excuses for you?""Mother, please—""Do not 'Mother' me right now!" Her voice snapped across the small room like a whip. "I did not raise you to treat people this way. I taught you to be honest, to respect your marriage, and to act like a proper man. Whatever this mess is, it is not how you were brought up."She took a step closer to him, her eyes wide with frustration. I had never seen Beatrice lose her temper like this. She had always been the gentle, quiet presence in the family, but right now she looked ready to tear him apart."Do you think I am stupid?" she demanded, raising her voice. "Do you think I ca

  • The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back)   Cornered

MARY'S POV:I watched his hands linger on her blanket. I watched the way he searched her face to see if she was in pain, his voice dropping into that quiet, soothing tone he used to reserve only for me years ago. I watched Vesper look up at him through her eyelashes, her lips slightly open, looking at him as if he were her hero.None of it surprised me anymore.I had seen this same closeness between them too many times to count. He always moved toward her like pulled by a magnet. He had chosen her over me in public, defended her against the press, and left me behind to deal with the fallout alone. The only thing I could not figure out was why Vesper was still putting on this show. She had already won. She had taken my husband, wrecked my home, and ruined my peace of mind. What else was there left for her to take? Was she trying to win over Alistair's mother too? Alistair was already completely wrapped around her finger, ready to give her whatever she wanted. He had given up his

  • The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back)   The Cold Truth

MARY'S POV: She then turned toward the bed, gesturing toward the pillows with an open palm. "This young woman got hurt while she was helping me out earlier today," Beatrice explained, her tone completely casual. "The doctor said she will probably have to stay off her feet and take some time away from work. I felt terrible about it and wanted to make sure she was taken care of. Since I know she works over at Alistair's firm, I called him and asked him to drop by." Her voice was light and cheerful, as though she had no clue about the storm raging around us. She spoke as if Vesper were merely a helpful stranger who deserved a polite visit from the company boss. I turned my head slowly to look at Vesper. She was propped up against three big pillows, her dark hair falling loosely over her shoulders, looking small and pale against the white sheets. Her right ankle was wrapped in thick white bandages. She looked helpless and weak, the exact image of a woman who needed a man to step

  • The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back)   Not You Too

MARY'S POV:A heavy, ice-cold chill settled deep inside my chest.I stood completely still near the open door, staring at the middle-aged woman who had just spoken. It was Alistair's mother, Beatrice. This was the same woman who had welcomed me into her family with open arms years ago, who had held my hands tightly on my wedding day, and who had sat by my hospital bed crying tears of joy when Elowen was born.Yet here she was, sitting comfortably inside Vesper's private hospital room, looking as if this was the exact place she belonged.Had she really taken Vesper's side behind my back? The thought alone made my stomach turn upside down. I had trusted Beatrice with all my heart. I had loved her like family because she was the anchor I never had growing up. She was the one who checked on me through my pregnancy, who sat up with me during those dark post-partum months, and who kept me company on the countless long nights when Alistair was out late and I was left alone with a crying
