Then, he sighed heavily, rubbing his temple. “I should have stopped it,” he murmured. “From the very beginning. I should have—”

“Don’t,” I whispered, cutting him off. “Don’t say that.”

He couldn’t say that. Because if he did, it meant everything I had sacrificed, everything I had endured, had been for nothing.

I forced another smile, my hands gripping the blanket tighter. “I made my choices.”

His expression softened, “You shouldn’t have had to.”

Another silence settled between us. This time, I was the one to break it.

“Regan hasn’t visited,” I said, my voice quiet but firm.

He stiffened slightly but didn’t look surprised. “I figured.”

“I thought… I thought maybe he would.”

He exhaled, shaking his head. “He’s a fool.”

“I know.”

Another pause. Then, my grandfather studied me closely. Too closely. "Do you still love him?" he asked.

The question caught me off guard. Love? Did I still love Regan? The man who had chosen Zarina over me. The man who had begged me for a divorce.

She wasn't able to say she loved Regan, but admitted to herself, she would give it her all 'til the end of "us" and her marriage. When will that be, Ana? Why not walk away with the baby and see how things play out. Remember the saying, " You never know what you've lost 'til it's gone."

A week had passed since the accident. Since everything had fallen apart.Physically, I was fine—fully recovered, as my doctors had confirmed. But my family still insisted I stay in the hospital a little longer. They hovered, worried and protective as if I was made of glass. A part of me understood. They had lost me once before, and maybe now, they were terrified it would happen again. But no one knew the real reason I was taking extra care of myself. No one except Sheila and my OB-GYN.My pregnancy remained a secret.Since the moment I found out, I had done everything to follow the list of guidelines Sheila and my doctor had given me. I ate healthy, rested properly, and stayed away from stress as much as I could. My brothers and grandfather visited me daily, showering me with attention and concern. It felt strange—having them here, showing they cared—after years of distance. And my father? He never came.I had also noticed something else. At times, when I was half asleep, a faint but

The morning sunlight filtered through the hospital blinds, casting soft golden streaks across the sterile white walls. I sat on the edge of my hospital bed, already dressed in a simple yet elegant beige dress that draped loosely over my recovering body. My fingers fidgeted with the handle of my packed bag beside me, anticipation curling in my stomach.I was leaving.Finally.A mixture of nerves and excitement coursed through me. It wasn’t just about getting out of the hospital—it was about what came next. About whom came next.Regan.I hadn’t told my family I was leaving. They’d try to stop me, insist that I needed more rest, more time. But I was ready. And once I told them I was safely home, they wouldn’t have a choice but to accept it. And today, I was going to see him. Tell him everything.Tell him about our baby. The thought sent a rush of warmth through me, a hope blooming in my chest. The door creaked open, breaking me out of my thoughts.I looked up, expecting a nurse, but inst

As we drove, the gentle hum of the car engine filled the silence. I pulled out the ultrasound picture from my bag, holding it carefully in my hands. The tiny image of my baby made my heart swell with a mix of joy and anxiety. I traced the outline with my finger, a faint smile tugging at my lips.My baby.My little one.A soft smile tugged at my lips, but it was a bittersweet one. The joy of carrying this life inside me was overshadowed by the unknown—by him.Would Regan be happy? Would he finally see me? Would he finally choose me?"Are you planning to frame that or something?" Sheila's voice broke through my thoughts.I glanced at her, then back at the picture. "No," I murmured. "I'm going to show it to Regan."Sheila let out a slow exhale, gripping the steering wheel a little tighter. “Of course, you are. You know, Ana…I admire your resilience. Really, I do. But how long are you going to keep giving that man the benefit of the doubt?”I sighed, hugging the ultrasound picture closer

I frowned, closing the door behind me. My voice echoed slightly as I called out, “I’m home.” Silence. My stomach twisted. I blinked, my grip tightening on the strap of my bag. I took a few steps forward, my heels clicking softly against the marble. Where was everyone? “Susan?” I called out, expecting my head maid to appear any second now, as she always did. “Susan, where is everyone?” Still, silence. A chill ran down my spine. Something was wrong. I turned toward the stairs, about to head up, when suddenly— “Miss Anastasia!” The voice came from the hallway. Rushed. Panicked. And then, Susan appeared.Susan rushed toward me in a blur, her usually composed demeanor completely gone. Her once neatly tied gray-streaked hair was slightly disheveled, and her dark housekeeper’s uniform looked as if it had been hastily adjusted. Her face was pale, her eyes wide with an emotion I couldn’t quite place—fear, relief, something else? Before I could speak, she wrapped her arms around me, clut

The air turned suffocating, thick with something heavy—dread, betrayal, something I couldn’t name. Susan’s grip on my wrist tightened as if she could physically stop me from stepping any further, from taking another breath in this house that suddenly felt like a stranger’s.Her face was etched with desperation. She was pleading with me now. “Miss Anastasia, please—please just turn around and leave.”But I couldn’t.Something inside me had already cracked. A wound had been carved open the moment she said that name.Zarina.I repeated it in my mind, like a slow, cruel mantra, willing it to make sense. But it didn’t. Nothing did. My stomach twisted violently. A cold, sickening sensation spread through my limbs, making me feel like I was floating—disconnected from my body, from reality. My fingers tightened around the ultrasound picture in my palm. I thought I had prepared myself for everything. For heartbreak. But this? This wasn’t just rejection. This was erasure. Regan’s body jerked upright. He turned sharply, his expression twisting in shock. His eyes—filled with something that shattered me even more. Calm. For a single, fleeting moment, I saw something else. Something raw.But it was too late. Too fucking late.I didn’t feel the tears running down my face until my vision blurred. My heart pounded so hard it felt like it would shatter through my ribs. The room spun, reality hitting me in full force. The betrayal. The humiliation. The absolute cruelty of it all.Regan scrambled to move, grabbing the nearest piece of clothing, and hastily wrapping a sheet around his waist. He started toward me.“Anastasia, what the fuck are you doing here?”I took a step back, my fingers tightening around the ultrasound picture—until the delicate edges crumpled under my grip.Something inside me snapped. With all the strength I had left, I hurled the picture across the room. I shoved him away with all the strength I had left, my body trembling as I grabbed another shard from the broken vase. The woman who stole everything from me.She let out a terrified shriek, scrambling backward on the floor, her hands raised as if that would stop me. The words escaped me in gasps, strangled and desperate. I needed him to stop hurting me. To stop choosing her. To stop breaking me every time he looked at me like I didn’t matter.I gripped him harder, my fingers trembling against his chest. “Why, Regan?” I choked out, “Why did you let it get this far? Why didn’t you—” I couldn’t finish. I couldn’t get the words out. The truth was suffocating me.I lifted my head, looking up at him through the tears streaming down my face. My heart was pounding in my chest, so loud I thought it would burst. My hands shook as I cupped his face, but he didn’t meet my gaze. His eyes were focused somewhere past me, distant. Empty. I didn’t know this man anymore. I didn’t know the man I had loved, the man I had trusted with everything.“I don’t want to hurt anymore, Regan. Please… just make it stop. Please.” My breath hitched, and I clutched him tighter, pressing my forehead against his chest, wishing that I could somehow make it all go away. “I loved you.

I had no response. My mouth stayed shut, my fists clenched at my sides.Because I came back here — to this mansion— night after night not because I was guilty. Not even because I missed the routine. I came back because I couldn’t breathe anywhere else. I couldn’t sleep. I couldn’t function. Every time I walked into the penthouse with Zarina waiting for me —her smile sweet, her arms reaching — all I could think about was Anastasia.I could picture her face even when my eyes were closed. Every line, every curve, every look she ever gave me — I could draw them all.God, I can’t even count how many times I stared at my phone, thumb hovering over her name. Wanting to call. Needing to call.Just to hear her voice.Even once.I told myself I loved Zarina.I should have loved her.I owed her this child, didn’t I? I owed her a future. I told myself that making Anastasia hate me would make it easier for her to

I leaned back, taking a long sip before answering, “And?”Richard’s jaw clenched. His fists curled slightly at his sides. “I’m asking you—no, I’m telling you—to reconsider.”I shakes my hand, “No, I made my mind—”“You care to explain why?” my father demanded, his voice cutting through the room like a blade.I exhaled slowly. “Because it’s time.”“Time?” His voice sharpened with disbelief. “What the fuck are you saying? Is there a scheduled deadline for a divorce now? You married her, Regan.”“I did,” I said flatly. “I fucking did”“You made vows—”“And I broke them,” I snapped, the words harsher than I meant. “What do you want me to say, Dad? That I’m a villain? That I’m a selfish bastard who threw away a good woman for reasons I can’t even explain?”Silence followed. He stared at me — hard. Disgust and disappointment twisted in the crease of his brow. “I want you to tell me the truth, Regan, why ar

  • The Unwanted Wife   Chapter 152: I Hated This Driveway......

Regan’s POVI hated this driveway. It was too long. Too quiet. The kind of silence that crept under your skin and stayed there long after the car rolled to a stop — like a weight pressing against your chest.I sat in the driver’s seat, staring through the windshield. One hand gripped the steering wheel, knuckles pale. The other clutched a bottle of scotch, half-empty and sweating against my palm. I didn’t remember when I started drinking it. Probably after the second meeting. Or the fifth. Maybe somewhere between the notification about Zarina’s next doctor appointment and the message from my father asking why I wasn’t at home. Not this home. The other one. The penthouse. The one where everything felt wrong.I wasn’t supposed to be here tonight. Wasn’t supposed to come back at all. This house had become a graveyard.I wasn’t supposed to be here. Not tonight. Not ever again, maybe. But I couldn’t stop coming back.

Morgan stood there for a moment, the basket of fruit still tucked neatly under one arm. He shifted slightly, clearing his throat before setting the basket down carefully on a side table."I didn’t expect you today, Atty. Morgan," I said, gesturing lightly toward the basket. "Is that... for me?"He gave a small, almost bashful smile, his gaze softening as he glanced at it."Yes," he said simply. “My wife used to eat these. A lot. When she was pregnant."I blinked at him, a little caught off guard. Of all the things I thought he might bring today, a basket of fruits wasn't one of them."She said they helped with... everything. Nausea, heartburn, even bad days. She swore by them. So, I thought — maybe... you’d like some too.""Thank you,"I cleared it quickly, forcing myself to sit down at my desk, placing my hands on the smooth wood like. Morgan sat down across from me, adjusting his jacket, his movements precise but hesitant."So," I said after a breath, offering a lighter smile I did

Christopher, the serious one. He had always been the one who weighed every decision carefully, who never raised his voice unless he absolutely had to. But today, sitting there with the people who knew him best, the polished mask he usually wore around the business world had slipped slightly. His true character was showing in full color.I thought back to the phone calls over the past few days — all those rushed, half-panicked messages Christopher had sent me when I wasn’t answering, the late-night calls I barely had the heart to pick up.Christopher had been the one to say it plainly over the phone.“Ana... it’s Gerard. You know he’s not good with words. He’s worried about you too. We both are.”There had been an honesty in his voice that night that surprised me. And when I’d finally explained things about what happened when mom died over the phone, stammering through truths and not avoiding the worst parts, Christopher had simply listened — no judgment, no anger, just pure apology fr

  • The Unwanted Wife   Chapter 149: Brothers and Cousin

Anastasia's POVThe morning air was cool and quiet. Sunlight filled the garden, and the leaves moved gently in the breeze. I sat with my brothers, Gerard and Christopher, on the cushioned patio chairs spread around the small garden table. Phoenix lounged across two chairs, sipping a tall glass of iced tea. She wore a loose shirt, ripped jeans, and a wide grin.I exhaled softly. It had been three days since that ugly confrontation with Zarina at the park. Three days of trying to keep moving, pretending things were fine even when I woke up some mornings feeling like I couldn’t breathe. When Phoenix had first barged into my house, suitcase dragging behind her and rainbow hair gleaming under the sun, I genuinely thought I was dreaming."I just landed, baby girl," she had announced proudly, tossing her jacket onto my sofa like it lived there. "Miss me?"I had blinked at her, still half in shock. The day after that, I finally called my brothers. I couldn’t keep avoiding them. They had been

  • The Unwanted Wife   Chapter 148: Phoenix

A few feet away, a guy swung off a gorgeous black and chrome motorcycle, pulling off his helmet in one smooth, practiced motion. He shook out messy, dark hair that flopped slightly over his forehead, then casually tapped at his phone, probably answering some boring business call.He was tall, lean but broad-shouldered, dressed in a fitted white shirt and dark jeans, a silver chain hanging loosely around his neck. He looked effortless—expensive without even trying. His boots were clean but worn, like he actually used them, and his watch probably cost more than most people’s rent.Definitely rich. Definitely reckless enough to park a beauty like that out here.As I crept closer, pretending to scroll on my phone, I caught him speaking into his call."Yeah, it's Alex Wright. I'll be there in five."Alex Wright.Cute name for a cute face.Too bad for him.I sauntered right up to him, still casually puffing on the cigarette

Let them stare. I'd dye it neon green next time, just to spite them.Phoenix Alvira Saavedra.Protector of blood.I had barely tossed my designer duffel into the passenger seat of my sleek black Porsche 911 Turbo S before I was tearing out of the airport driveway, engine roaring like a beast that couldn’t be tamed. No text, no warning. Surprise was half the funWhen I pulled up to the driveway, though, her house was too still, too quiet. Just her maids fluttering nervously at the front door like they were waiting for a bomb to drop."Miss Anastasia is at the park, ma’am," one of them chirped, her voice way too high, her eyes flickering nervously toward my boots and leather jacket.

The gravel crunched beneath our shoes as we followed the winding path deeper into the trees. I tucked my hands into the pockets of my sweater, breathing in the cold, crisp air that somehow still wasn’t enough to clear the fog inside my head.We were still walking quietly when, out of nowhere, a sharp, familiar voice cut through the heavy air.I turned my head and there she was—Zarina.I felt Ava stiffen beside me immediately, ready for whatever was about to happen. Thankfully, the park had already begun to empty. The sun was sinking, and there were no curious bystanders.Zarina's steps were quick and sharp, her heels clicking with every furious stride until she stood a few feet away. Her doe-like eyes pinned me like a dagger, full of rage."You really have some nerve," Zarina hissed. She stepped forward, hand twitching at her side, and for a split second, I saw her hand lift—as if she were seriously considering slapping me.But Ava was faste
