Snippet of The Rise of the Alpha Queen - book fourMiriamIt’s been a week since I caught Athena. A week where she has been in and out of consciousness, and when she’s been awake she has not acknowledged my presence at all. Neither has she acknowledged anyone else’s, not even her brother, or her allies. It doesn’t really matter in the least to me because I have plans with her, and my plans are not short term. She’ll come around, and in the end she’ll beg for death, and I will keep denying her that pleasure. As of right now, I’m allowing her to live in her head, wherever that is. In terms of the other packs we attacked, most of them surrendered and brokered a deal where the Alpha and Luna stayed in place to rule, but under our eye and our laws. While we attacked the packs, we also attacked all the Councils. Or should I say we attacked the Council headquarters. They were empty when we got there and we have yet to locate either of them or the High Council. Right now they are underground

Athena P.O.V.I came back late last night. I had to bury my daughter alone, and I couldn’t face the fact that I had to go home again. Not in the beginning. I dug her grave in Alessa’s form, and shifted to lay her in her final resting spot as gently as I could. I cried, screamed to heaven for the unfairness of it all, feeling my heart and soul break again and again. Then I magically laid the freshly dug dirt on top of my daughter, and found a decent size stone, which I magically wrote her name, date of birth and death and a few words into. Afterwards I shifted again and laid down, grieving with Alessa. She whined, gently pawed at the grave, and tears ran into her fur. It was past midnight when we finally came back to the packhouse, and I refused to go back to the hospital. I moved through the quiet packhouse as I was, going directly to my room, which had been cleaned, to shower and then lay on my bed to cry myself to sleep. Caspian P.O.V.Ninhuin keeps me company by the lake shore, and I find that I enjoy her company. She has a dry sense of humor and sees the realms for what they are. She has no illusions, and knows more about life than any of the other Goddesses I’ve met. Or at least she is more open about what she knows than the other. Athena P.O.V. The sun is barely over the horizon when I’m up. I’m not sleeping well; between my pregnancy, my thoughts and my regular insomnia, it’s not looking particularly good in the sleep department at the moment. I know doc has told me to get as much rest as I can, even if I can’t sleep all that much, so I always manage to stay in bed, either reading or just listening to calming music and meditation sounds in the background.
