King Lestat's Point of View

"This is where my beloved lived?" I asked as we pulled up to the rundown apartment complex. There were people standing outside the building selling drugs. Women were standing outside with barely anything, waiting for a man to come so that they could sell themselves. Seeing how Ariel had to live made me even more upset. She had seen more than she should have seen in her young life. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised. Her dad did sell her and her little sister to me to pay off his debt.

Jacob and I got out of the car and headed to the front door of the building. "You two don't look like you should be here," one of the men said. I looked at them, and they stepped back in fear. Good, they should fear me. Human instinct told them that I wasn't someone they wanted to fuck with. Jacob and I ignored him as we passed by and headed to Rose's father's house.
