Sarah‘s POV

I woke up again and found myself in an unfamiliar environment, which appeared to be a hospital or doctor’s office. I tentatively moved, remembering the fall from the cliff. I blinked at the ceiling. So, I wasn’t dead. I was still in the land of the living—an invisible weight pressed on my chest. I didn’t know how I felt about that.

Next, I sat up and glanced at my arms. The cuts were gone. As well as my scars.

At that moment, the handsome man who almost ran me over entered the room. He must have saved me.

“How are you feeling?” he asked, walking around the table with nonchalant grace. “I’m Sebastian Valemont.” He reached out a hand. His deep blue eyes were compelling, magnetic. “Your eyes are a beautiful gold,” he said, leaning toward me. “With specks of green. Fascinating.”

Golden eyes?

“Is there a mirror?” I asked, curious.

Sebastian rummaged through a few drawers and handed me a hand mirror. I held it up. My eyes had indeed changed color—to a bright amber. And he was ri

  • The Vampire Princess   #Chapter Thirteen: Thorns in the Garden

Sarah‘s POVAlthough it had been a week, I still wasn’t used to this lifestyle—no bullying, and a group of maids serving me.I protested leaving Sebastian’s home to come here. It didn’t feel right. This life was so at odds with my life at Stormveil Pack that it didn’t feel real.It took Sebastian two days to convince me to stay at the king’s castle with my father, saying it was my birthright… blah, blah, blah. I was here against my better judgment. The entire castle was busy buzzing around, preparing for the upcoming ceremony. There were flowers on every table and in every room of the castle. It smelled like springtime.Designers stood me on stools, turning me this way and that, taking my measurements to prepare my dresses, accessories, and other items I would need for the event.I stared out the window of my new suite as the last designer of the day measured my arms and bust, one last time.I wanted to go outside for some fresh air and my daily walk, which I had grown accustomed to w

  • The Vampire Princess   #Chapter Twelve: The Lost Princess Found

Sarah‘s POV The man who helped me up looked as if he were seeing a ghost. His hands were large yet so careful with me. I was surprised. He had lovely, long blond hair with pale gray eyes. When I reached my feet, about to thank the man, the nobles around me bowed.Oh, no, the king. I did my best to bow, trying to mimic the others around me. Sebastian stood just out of reach. My heart rate climbed. I didn’t want to embarrass Sebastian any more than I already had because of Laura.I tried to get away from her, but she followed me. I didn’t understand what the king meant when he said I looked like my mother. Did he know her? Did he know who I was?As he led me into the dining hall with Sebastian in tow, Lauar charged in after us. I held my breath, releasing the king’s arm. I could feel a punishment about to be served. I tried to prepare myself as best as I could.Laura opened her mouth to speak, but not a word made it out of her mouth before the king said, “What had happened out there, j

  • The Vampire Princess   #Chapter Eleven: The Banquet of Truths

Sarah‘s POVThe guests at the banquet cast various curious glances at Sebastian and me. I became increasingly uneasy under their scrutiny. I drew myself closer to him, suddenly self-conscious of my remaining scars. The girl, Laura, didn’t look much older than me. She narrowed her gaze at Sebastian and my interlocked arms. I saw anger ignite and turn to jealousy in those green eyes―a look I saw in Madison every time Andrew was near me. Jealousy meant nothing but trouble.“What’s your name?” Laura asked, voice like an echo from an empty tomb.Sebastian replied, “My dance partner is none of your concern. She is an ordinary vampire. Come for an extraordinary night.”He ushered me past her and deeper into the room. “What do you think?”I took it all in and smiled at him. “It is beautiful.”Laura followed us, pulling at my arm to face her. Sebastian pivoted and locked eyes with the girl. She was unfazed, as if this were a normal part of their relationship.“I have always wanted to invite Se

  • The Vampire Princess   #Chapter Ten: Nightmares and Revelations

Sebastian's POVI heard Sarah’s high-pitched scream permeate the stone wall separating our rooms. Fear’s cold fingers gripped my chest. Was she in danger? I shot from my bed and quickly threw on a bathrobe. Rushing to her bedroom, I found Sarah covered in sweat, seemingly in the midst of a nightmare. Tangled in the sheets, she thrashed around. I sat on the edge of her. She was a delicate creature, even if she didn’t see it.What must her life have been like to have such a dream? I sighed. Not so long ago, my own nightmares pulled me under. I wiped the sweat from her forehead and gently placed a hand on her shoulder, hoping to comfort her. “It’s okay, Sarah, you’re safe.” Her breathing slowed, and she became still. Satisfaction, long forgotten, settled over me.I clenched my jaw, unsure of the feelings that stirred. I stood to leave, but Sarah unexpectedly grabbed my arm.“Stay,” she whispered.Although it seemed like she was speaking in her sleep, I decided to stay.I climbed into the

  • The Vampire Princess   #Chapter Nine: Buried in Blood

Sarah‘s POVI thought about Sebastian’s question. How did I end up in Stormveil Pack? I hadn’t thought about that for a long time. “I was a child no more than three or four, I believe. I don’t know how I got there or where I came from. I was told I was found wandering around. I have no memory of anything before that. The Luna, Margaret of the Stormveil Pack, took a liking to me and adopted me. A few years later, she died, and then I became a slave.”Sebastian was thoughtful, as though he was putting pieces of a puzzle together that I didn’t have.Several days passed, and I was desperately resisting the urge to drink non-animal blood. I caught a few birds and two rabbits to feed on, but after drinking werewolf blood, I lost interest in continuing to seek out animals. It seemed the werewolf blood eased my hunger more fully. Every time Sebastian drank blood, I had to struggle to control my desires, but with every day that passed without blood, my body grew weaker. When I was on my way fo

  • The Vampire Princess   #Chapter Eight: The Taste of Power

Sarah‘s POVThe next day, I found a pair of blue jeans, a cotton black top, and the cutest pair of black flats I had ever seen. Thrilled to have something new and clean, I ran to the shower and turned it on. Twenty minutes later, I was squeaky clean and gazing at myself in the mirror. I wasn’t used to seeing golden freckled eyes staring back at me. The doctor said it was a mark of power, but what power? It was more than I could think of at the moment.Clean hair and skin made a difference in how I felt about myself. I felt hopeful for the first time. I picked up my single possession, my necklace, and clasped it behind my neck. The chain was long, causing the pendant to dip between my breasts. I ran my fingers through my light drown hair and went on the hunt for Sebastian to thank him for the clothes. They fit perfectly.I floated down the staircase in search of Sebastian. The butler told me he was away for the moment and would return soon. I thanked him and wandered around, not knowin
