The mysterious death of Lord Reginald: Henry's findings

Elizabeth and Trainee Kent were now on the opposite side of the Night Rose, waiting for their 'accomplice' to join them.

The English lady fixed her gaze at the door as she softly spoke to her companion "thanks for indulging my curiosity Mr Kent".

"I am much obliged to do so Miss Carter, I am too of a curious nature and not always appreciated when I try to give my opinion." he answered as he placed himself at her right.

"How many years have you been in the police force Mr Kent?" She said finally facing him.

"Five years, almost six Miss." He folded his arms and laid back against the wall behind him.

"And you are still in training?"

"That's correct, apparently I am not ready to face real police work." The tone of his answer was one of frustration, years of dedication and nothing to show for them, always trying to prove himself but never being recognized for his effort.

"I imagine" she shared the sentiment "people tend to side-eye to people who won't do what's expected of them…waiting for them to eventually give up." She crossed her arms and placed her back on the wall imitating Mr Kent.

The former smiled back at her as they were now complicit in a mutual feeling.

"Your gentleman friend does take his time" Kent observed.

"Yes he does…" as she fixed the lower half of her dress "...but to be fair he does tend to be late, I think he is the only Englishman who does so."

The policeman gives steps to the side towards Elizabeth and in a confidential tone he says "I don't think your gentleman friend likes me very much."

"To be fair he tends to be cold with people, but I am sure he will get to like you, I hope with all my heart he will because you seem like a very honest and decent man." She says assuringly.

The afro-British policeman was in awe of her kindness but believed that Mr Lewis was not the man she believed him to be.

Not long after Henry was walking down the stairs of the nightly establishment and towards them; He was smiling and in his vision, he could only see his dearest childhood friend who he had pined for a long time.

"The solicitor was of great help" he started "you wouldn't believe what people are willing to let out when charmed by a swift tongue."

Elizabeth gently tugged him on the shoulder "stop praising yourself and tell us what he said."

Henry was now forced to acknowledge Trainee Kent and made a tilted his head towards him, after doing so his focus was entirely on Elizabeth.

"well apparently Lord Reginald was a frequent attendee, and was always seeking companionship from younger ladies…" he made a pause to contain his excitement at the news "last night he was seen with a mysterious black-haired woman…and as far as we know she was the one that found him."

As soon as he was finished the noblewoman shared all the information that they had on the case, frequently letting Mr Kent interject.

"An unnatural death?!" Henry repeated the last words of Elizabeth's sentence "you can't really believe in that Elizabeth or do you?" He was perplexed.

"I know it sounds mad" she said in an apologetic tone "but it's the only thing that makes sense to me, and even Mr Kent agrees with me."

Henry breathes out heavily trying to give Elizabeth the benefit of the doubt.

"If you are interested we will go to Saint Mary Magdalene church at 6:30 to speak with my theology teacher, Minister Smith."

"I'll be there at least to get a chuckle out of the Ministers after you tell him the devil was involved in this, he will lose his mind…" Henry gestures with his hat "I will leave you to it then." He leaves leaving Elizabeth and Kent alone.

"I will see you at St Mary Magdalene then, Miss Carter" Kent says, gesturing at her before leaving too.

The man oozed chivalry and kindness something that seldom times Elizabeth had seen men, besides her brother and late father, and she started to wonder more and more about seeing him again.

The blond woman stayed in her place until Mr Kent become nothing more than a distant and blurry image; she then composed herself and walked in the opposite direction to meet her next appointment.

And as she walked she made a silent prayer 'Lord help me survive my mother'.
