Chapter 1

Author: Cotton Candy
My older brother, Charlie Sherman, threw a bottle of pesticide at me and spat, "Someone as vicious as you should just die."

I knelt on the ground, my exposed skin covered in wounds and bruises.

My eldest brother, Lucas Sherman, chimed in with an unusually cold voice, "Apologize to Cynthia right now, or you might as well die!"

Cynthia Graham quickly spoke up, sounding pitiful. "Lucas, Charlie, don't torment Maddie because of me. I just lost my chance at the SATs, but I can always take it again... I can even just get a job."

Her words only fueled the anger of my brothers standing before me. They became even more enraged, probably feeling indignant on Cynthia's behalf.

Charlie kicked me hard in the stomach with his leather shoe.

Lucas looked at me with pure disgust and slapped me across the face. He hissed, "Apologize to Cynthia right now!"

I let out a cold laugh as I stared at the pesticide bottle in front of me. I was truly living the life of a side character, being treated that way by my own brothers.

I picked up the pesticide bottle, twisted it open, and poured it straight into my mouth.

"What are you doing?!" Charlie screamed in terror, his face turning deathly pale.

Even the usually composed Lucas panicked at that moment. "Are you insane? Did you really drink it?"

My consciousness grew increasingly hazy, and I thought, 'What's so insane about it?'

The original character in that world, Maddison Sherman, was just a villainous side character doomed to die sooner or later anyway. I remembered that the original plot said that she was supposed to die there, but it was by suicide with a knife instead.

Although I drank the pesticide, I thought the character's ending would still be the same.

However, I was wrong. I did not die.

The pesticide seller, Terry Powell, had diluted the pesticide with water to make more profit. He even came to visit me, carrying a basket of fruit.

He clutched his chest as he said, "Oh, thank goodness, I was greedy and diluted it with water! Otherwise, I'd be paying with my life right now."

Charlie stood nearby, his eyes red as if he had just cried.

"I was just messing with you. Why did you actually drink it? Maddie, since when did you become so weak?" he asked.

The original Maddison was not fragile at all. After all, she was the villainous side character whose job was to frame the female lead before meeting her destined death.

The female lead was Cynthia.

Just a while back, the original Maddison had tried to stop her from taking the SATs by slipping laxatives into Cynthia's food. However, halfway through, the original Maddison got scared and switched the drugged meal with a normal one.

Surprisingly, Cynthia still ended up with stomach problems and missed the SAT anyway. That could only mean one thing: she was faking it.

"Why aren't you saying anything?" Charlie approached me, and there was actually a hint of worry in his eyes.

In the story, I loved tormenting him when we were kids, so he despised me for it. As we grew older, he targeted me in every possible way. He was even a teacher at our school, and he would accuse me of cheating.

As a result, I was frequently punished by our parents.

I did not want to deal with him because all I could think about was how to die. After all, the original Maddison was supposed to die that very day.

Only if I died could I return to my own world.

"Answer me!" Charlie grabbed my hand, trying to force me to speak.

I shoved him away forcefully, sending him tumbling to the ground.

After Maddison died, Charlie joined the monastery. He could never forgive himself, because he believed it was his fault Maddison was dead.If he had not suggested that their parents adopt Cynthia, she would not have lived with the Sherman family, and Maddison would not have died. He would spend the rest of his life in repentance.Meanwhile, Cynthia was imprisoned and sentenced to death.Lucas fell into depression, eaten alive by guilt. He often wondered if the outcome would have been different if he had not favored Cynthia. If only he could have seen Cynthia's true nature earlier. However, there were no do-overs.Every day, he sat in his room, staring blankly out the window. He wished more than anything that he could start over, because maybe then the three siblings could have lived in peace....Ashton went off to college in South City. For some reason, he was unusually happy. He could not even explain why, but he only remembered that it felt like he had made a promise to som

"Okay."I agreed to go with Ashton.I really wanted to tell him the harsh truth, but after thinking about it, I decided not to say anything. After all, I was not from that world, so I should not interfere with those things.Ashton brought me to his house and had his mother prepare a whole table's worth of delicious food.He kept telling me, "We're only eighteen. Our future is bright and promising. Once we start college, we can hang out on weekends, visit amusement parks, and do lots of fun and meaningful things."That was probably the kind of simple, peaceful life the original Maddison had wanted. It was too bad she was just a pitiful side character. After dinner, I used the excuse of going to the bathroom to leave a bank card on the counter. It contained the original Maddison's savings, and I had left it for Ashton. Then, I climbed out the window and escaped.I wanted to find somewhere with no people around to commit suicide, but I was unexpectedly captured by Cynthia. She ti

Otherwise, I would not be locked up by my brothers.I also wondered how Ashton was doing, though I did not want to see him before I died. If I did, I might lose my only chance to end it.I could only hope that, just like the original Maddison had written, Ashton would be able to live his own life once I was gone.I heard that Cynthia was kicked out. However, my parents were still attached to her and were secretly giving her money. Some habits truly died hard. Then again, I could not care less. At least I had cleared the original Maddison's name.Later, Charlie came to see me and gave me a watch. It was a watch that the original Maddison had once loved, but he used to only buy things like that for Cynthia."I'm sorry. I've been thinking for a long time, and I really know I was wrong."He looked at me bitterly and added, "Lucas and I have misunderstood you this whole time."I did not want to say a single word, so I tossed the watch straight into the trash. His face froze, and h

I pulled Cynthia and pushed her outward, "Why are you crying? I'll die with you.""No!" Mom dropped to her knees on the floor.Cynthia was trembling all over, and right there in front of everyone, she wet herself.I let out an evil laugh. "Weren't you acting all tough earlier? What happened? Why are you wetting yourself now?"I grabbed her clothes and kept pushing her down until half her body was already hanging out over the drop. "Ah, no, no! Please don't push me down!" Cynthia sobbed, begging nonstop. An idea flashed in my mind, and I smiled. "Fine, I won't push you, but you have to tell everyone the truth right now. Did I ever hit you?"She stuttered, "I-I..." I shoved her again and exclaimed, "Hurry up and tell them!""I'll say it... I'll say it! Maddie never hit me."As soon as those words left her mouth, Lucas frowned in confusion. "Cynthia, then why did you say that earlier?" She replied, "B-Because I wanted you to kick Maddie out.""Keep talking!" If I had kno

Charlie suddenly called out to me. "Maddie, come here."I walked over, and he pulled me aside to whisper, "Apologize to Lucas and our parents today, and they won't hold it against you anymore. You've done a lot of things lately that have disappointed us."I simply replied, "Okay."Hearing me agree so quickly, he seemed relieved. "I knew deep down you still had a good heart. I'll work on my temper from now on."I silently scoffed. That was just like Charlie. He would always hurt the original Maddison just to turn around and play nice again. He never actually changed his ways. When the birthday party reached its peak, I stepped up to the stage to give a speech. I had planned to speak a few words for the original Maddison, then drink pesticide in front of everyone.Unexpectedly, Cynthia suddenly ran to the balcony railing. Her eyes were red and teary as she looked at everyone pitifully and said, "There's actually something I've always wanted to tell everyone."She looked toward ou

I froze, thinking, 'Is this from the original Maddison? Did she just write to me?'She continued writing.[No matter what, my ending is death. If I don't die, Ashton won't be able to start his new life, so please kill yourself somewhere he won't know about it. This way, you can go home, and Ashton can start over.]She wrote a lot more.Only then did I realize she knew she was just a side character in a book who would die eventually. Even though I had changed her fate that day, the story's ending was something that could not be reversed. She had already died long ago, and what lingered was just the last trace of her consciousness. If she did not die, Ashton would keep clinging to her memory. However, once she was gone, the author would change Ashton's ending, giving him a new beginning. That was her agreement with the author. In the days that followed, Ashton never left my side. He took me to watch sunsets, saying the world was full of beautiful sights. He said, "As long as we'
